Did I read somewhere on this thread that there is no Spectator Mode?

So if I'm in a party with six people and we're all playing, the four of us can't watch the other two fight?

A lot of the combo videos getting posted are getting me so excited, especially the Spider-Man and Cap ones. WHERE ARE THE DOOM VIDS?

Bummer. That might actually be a deal breaker for me. : /

Has Capcom said anything about adding it in the future?

They've said it's "in the works," but there's no other information or any sort of timetable set for it. It'd be pretty terrible if they didn't add it.

I find it a bit baffling that a company like Capcom with their fighting game experience would leave something like this out.

I suppose I'm gonna have to wait for them to slap it on then. : /

Thanks for the info.

You'd think they'll have it up by the time Jill/Shum is released. Wishful thinking.

That's pretty bad they don't have a spectator mode. Looks like I'll still be playing ssf4 with friends, I love to see the battles with homies

How did they not put in features that are already present in SSFIV? Seriously?

Taskmaster's spidey swing is -> + H . I expect non-stop spamming of this from scrubby players online.
At least it's better than OPTIC BLAST! OPTIC BLAST! OPTIC BLAST! OPTIC BLAST! OPTIC BLAST!

Well at least they've confirmed a new mode (ghost data, lulz, etc) so maybe Capcom will release Spectator mode alongside it, same patch/DLC.

Now THAT'S wishful thinking.

So could a possible explanation for no spectator mode right now be that it's just too much to render on all those screens if you have that big of a lobby going? The game seems really demanding and maybe all that network strain would negatively impact the games?

It wouldn't be that bad if the video was delayed a bit I would think.

To be honest I think the reason was to push the game out here in this release window of February to get the most profits possible. If you haven't noticed 2011 is filled to the damn brim. I don't remember any year in gaming in a long time this full of AAA sequels and new IPS that can amass a lot of hype.

If no spec/replays = we get game sooner/they get more sales then I totally accept that IF and only IF we get those as DLC later on. That's a fair trade.

However, if that isn't the reasoning, and we won't get the features as DLC later on...then really Marvel will probably have less standing with me as something like SSF4 did in the last year, because the most fun I had with that game is in endless lobbies watching my friends duke it out.

Wouldn't it only record inputs and play them back client-side? Games like Blazblue are on a brief "tape-delay" for spectators to avoid network issues for the party that's actually playing.

The only information that has to be sent over the wire to spectators is controller input per frame. I mean, think about it.

If people are worried about big damage, tournament standard can be turned to high health setting perhaps?. Seriosuly, I was going through teams with Sentinel in like 15 seconds...

Today is supposed to be the day the Capcom store is shipping out their copies. Anyone who ordered from them get their status changed to "Shipping" from "In process"?

Can't you just multicast the button presses to all the individual players local game engines. If I were building a spectator mode that is what I would do. I am assuming that there is some arbitration about order of move execution(due to latency issues and global time sync) and which action was globally first but then once that arbitration occurs you could stream the actual button presses to the viewing parties? I'm assuming ssf4 does this because you can view a replay and its actually just an input capture.

Yeah, that's why it doesn't bother me. It would be an easy "fix" if people decided down the line that it's something that actually needs fixing.

Yeah, it was just a thought. I'm trying to justify the shitty fact that it's not in there :[

Hulk sucks.

Didn't they say in an interview that Spectator was in but got taken out after running into some network/lag issues, and that it needs more tuning? I could totally be thinking of something else, so don't quote me on this.

still rocking that "in process"
even if it did ship I wouldn't expect the status to change immediately

Every fake/discredited Twitter account that "leaked" stuff blamed every cut feature on network issues.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was one of them.

Hopefully that's the case and they'll add it back in pretty quickly after they fix it.

Are they really gonna ship it 6 days before release?

Knowing the way Japanese teams seem to work, with queer isolation from one another at times (and one team leader approaching another seemingly with a white flag, diplomats, and tribute wagon in tow), my thought is:

* MVC3 team doesn't communicate much with SFIV team.

* SFIV team begins experimenting with online infrastructure in Super SFIV without pressure of primary game development.

* MVC3 team remains largely focused purely on content creation and character balancing, which to be fair had to be a nightmare.

* MVC3 team only vaguely pays attention to development of Super SFIV.

* Capcom PR agents start going back to MVC3 team, telling them how public wants all these features from the Street Fighter team's game in Marvel.

* MVC3 team groggily waves from behind workstations that they'll check into it sometime, thinking it is not their team's problem, their game design document didn't have that stuff in it.

Personally, I think odds are favorable that we'll get features such as a spectator mode, and a replay system, patched in MVC3 after the game ships, and the team slows down to begin addressing issues, watch for patchable glitches, and finish off DLC characters. Not 100% for sure, but at least 70%

sorry if this has been mentioned already, but is anyone going to this tonight in the Bay Area?
