Yeah, you can do it too, it works both ways, but the issue is that its a jacked mechanic that has a ton of impact on the match.

Game is still fun, but Mahvel didn't need it.

So by the looks of all the comments game is fun but lacks the high level play to make it really as endearing as Mvsc2? Too easy, too cheap and overblown comeback potential?

Whats the competition scene saying on the games potential for tourneys? Viable or just too much randomness?

Probably right, guess I'm almost basing my purchase on the fact it is... otherwise I probably wont invest much time into it and return pretty quickly back to SSFIV .

If there's more viable teams than MVC2, I would say it's good to go for tourney.

MvC2 was full of all kinds of crazy shit but for some reason people have started to act like it wasn't.

3 is more of the same, but probably even a little more over top - instead of having a few overpowered characters dominating the masses, damn near everyone is 'broken' in some way. And if it things simply ended there, I'm sure all would be going according to plan. The hiccup/red flag/lawry's/bs is the x-factor mechanic combined with the fact that its "one above smash" when it comes to execution. Someone early drew comparisons to how board game players believed in certain amounts of acceptable "luck" components in their games (Chess being 0% luck, War being 100%. something along those lines) and how MvC3's "luck" just won't be that popular, at least at the moment, among the more serious players - but they'll stfu and play because they like money.

Game is gonna be fun. No one has said otherwise and no one is canceling their preorders. Also, characters still have a long ways to go before there's anything close to a tier list. (I still don't think Sent is that bad... lvl 3 xfc makes him bad. 3 hits lol rematch? bad)

Yeah, I did that while playing the "demo" in Best Buy yesterday. It seemed so very effective, and the move is gorgeous to look at, too!

Dorm, Magneto, and Storm all seem to have full screen "grab" like supers that hit as long as the opponent is grounded and not blocking low, right? Is Doom's the same? I assume his has the worse range, as I've seen it whiff more.

Rather suprising how exceedingly easy those things are to land. And since they're "Cinematic", they totally negate all the screen clutter someone like Sent tosses at you endlessly...
 
Yeeeeaah, I think anyone who was watching NerdJosh on the Spooky stream earlier is well familiar with the effectiveness of Arthur's projectile game. >___>

Thanks for the reply! Too bad they had to include the x factor mechanic. I wonder why they simply used the TVC2 buttons setup, I would of rather they sticked with a more complicated scheme like mvs2 or heck the earlier vs games with the full 6 buttons ;). Oh well guess we have to change with the times...

I don't think it is to early to call because of the up and down nature of the game and how seemingly even it is evenly crazy it is that I have no doubt that it will be the go to tournament game especially over MVC2.
 
From what I understand, the skill cap is lower than MvC2, making it more about who chooses the correct high stakes play to win? In other words, too much about lucky plays, not enough execution skills required.

I'd like to hear from a skilled player who also understands the proper terminology. Justin Wong is a good player but calling MvC3 "cheap" (a loaded, overused word with many different meanings) is not helping me understand the game any better.

I don't know man, I'm watching a lot of these streams with experienced players and they're dropping a lot of combos.

Looking at She-Hulk combos, it's legit as fuck if people can set some of these up.

So I went to sleep 10 hours ago feeling like JEEZ, THEY HATE MVC3 ALREADY! WHAT IF IT REALLY SUCKS?

And now I wake up, and it is all love and fun again? Jesus christ, get your shit together! :D
 
Saying this game requires no skill is bullshit. I played today for about 6 hours, with mike chow, and that guys execution is godlike (as well as a few other cencal guys), and even he was droppin stuff. If you think you're gonna hop in and get free wins via xfactor, randomness and a few combos you are totally wrong.

Some of these combos especially the ones in mission mode are a bitch. Believe me, once you guys actually get your hands on the game, You'll see what I mean.

I think that the people that had complained about SSF4 trials and FADC being a but tough will have the same complaints about marvel.

Also, a minor gripe, but I am not a fan of the control scheme at all, would have much rather had two punches and two kicks instead of attacks 1 2 3 + S

It was all thanks to the Marn matches against team ASS. He showed off different ways of shutting that god awful team down while at the same time vindicated Phoenix. Some really good shit with Zero and Magneto as well. Saved all the pre-orders.

Pro tip: This game does not suck.

Only two days away. Man. Shame I don't have enough actual cash to outright buy the game. Looks like I'll have to trade in New Vegas, Dead Rising 2, and something else to be able to get this. Glad GameStop's doing that 50% extra trade credit thing. Don't really wanna get rid of New Vegas, but hey, it's MAHVEL. Haven't been this HYPE for a game in ages.

This. As silly as it may sound, watching Nerdjosh projectile spam & chip damage his way through so many new players online with Team ASS started getting a bit depressing. Then Marn came like an avenging angel and totally shut that crap down.
 
just played 3 ranked in a row against the same guy ...and he quit every single time...like..fucking hell is it THAT goddamn serious??
 
Has anyone done an input response time comparision between the PS3 and 360 version yet? I was told at a tourney that they used the 360 version of SSF4 because it responds faster to input. I'm curious whether it's a hardware or software thing as I might just buy 360 versions of fighters from now on.

Hey bro, long time no see! ;) Yeah same here about the control scheme, coming from sf I would go so far as saying 6 buttons like in street fighter vs marvel... but can't have everything ;)!

I do not know. I watched stream for like half an hour, but that NerdJosh dude was totally BAD. Ofc he could still win, well... imagine what a mediocre to bad Shoryuken/tatsumaki/hadoken spammer reversal-happy Ryu did to the new players who picked Abel, Viper or Fuerte in the first few days.

People just need to learn how to block properly, get the timings right, etc.

My friends been dropping info about this from SRK and SRK IRC... I've been lazy about posting it here but since you mentioned it... Apparently PS3 ver is inferior. Like lag and slowdown when there's too much on the screen. And supposedly on a level of difference more so than how SF4/Super was between PS3/360. Although the source was from someone on srk not playing disc version. Although I don't see how that makes much of a difference, but here's hoping.

Regardless, I'm still PS3 all the way. Folks said that if you played PS3 exclusively, you wouldn't really notice. But if you played both console versions, you'll def notice it.
