I know people keep suggesting this game is easy to get into and stuff, but the problem I seem to have is getting OTHER people started along with me.
The big issue is that with the damage being so crazy and the long combo strings, people around me are getting frustrated instantly and don't even want to bother trying to learn the game. At least with SSFIV I was able to get 2-3 people interested because the slower, non crazy pace lead to people actually feeling like they could comprehend it.
All that being said, however, this game is insanely awesome and I can't stop angrily practicing and not knowing how to do anything

My local gamestop won't release early, but they said tomorrow they're allowed and will put the game out on Kiosk in the evening so that he and all the rest of us fans can play it before they open the next day. No midnight event, but at least we can tourny up at gamestop for valentines here in WV.

While the quality of the online play is good (and that's the most important thing!), they really need to get everything else sorted out. It is not fun waiting in lobbies as-is. You also cannot kick people from the lobby, so if someone with a shitty connection joins, tough.
I have only noticed slowdown during some of the pre-fight intros, both offline and online. It happens for a second when the match is about to start. That's been it.

The purpose of this is to use the friends-of-friends feature on someone's profile that you can select when you view their profile on your 360 by going to "view friends." Are these generally worth it? Pre-ordered the game and I usually don't get into these games very competitively but this might be an exception. I generally don't mind using the analog stick for fighters though so I'm not sure if I'd prefer this.
