What makes Chris good? I've been playing him nonstop and am having trouble with his defense and getting in consistently. I like that laying prone can make the opponent come to me, not sure if it recovers fast enough enough beam supers. His rekka timings seem unnecessarily tight.

This is Marvel, dude -- if the screen isn't covered with crap and assists as much as possible, you're playing it wrong. Easy way to get it: Sentinel drone bombs while the other guy does basically anything else at the same time on most stages. It also tends to happen a lot as hyper combos are performed and end, probably because most of them fill the screen with crap!

To clarify for those wondering: all the frame drops I've talked about are offline. Haven't even touched online. They don't ruin the game, but they are unpleasant and distracting, and there's no excuse for this game to not run rock-fucking-solid 60fps at all times. If you've only got a PS3, you don't need to cancel your preorder again, but if you have both consoles, get the 360 version. You'll be much happier.
I don't have access to my 360 these days, I can only go with the PS3 version.

It'll happen. She is the x-factor.

Match point and someone picks up phoenix and the internet will melt.

Last night when asked about his thoughts on her, sp00ky complained that she bleeds too much. I honestly thought she'd be way worse. I wonder if he brought up more stuff to support that opinion.

What's the standard button config on a stick? I expected to see the MvC2 setup with assists on the right but that's not even a pre-set if you have a TE.

I'm using:
L M H
S A1 A2

AG = f+assist during a block.
SB = qcb+assist (cost 1 bar).
Thanks!

What does AG do? I hear the announcer say it in a match all the time, but I'm not sure what it does.

Is SB an attack that has to land to take effect? Is it different for everybody? I know it switches their character to the next in the list right?

Sentinel makes everyone bleed though, besides Sentinel.

no. That's alpha counter. advance guarding is hitting all three attacks (or two) while blocking. Doesn't cost any meter. It's the same as push block.

Wait, I mis-read your terms. My eyes are glazed over from playing... I typing between training mode combos and managed to screw up both of them!

AG is really = press 2 attacks during block stun
SB = qcf+assist (1 meter)

AG pushes them back and creates space to stop their close block strings (works a little to well IMO).

SB has to land, and yes, different characters vary in speed/range. It switches depending on which assist you use. Do SB with A2 and it brings in their second partner.

Yeah, brain's short-circuiting. You should've caught both mistakes!

Anyone got a good suggestion for a third party member with Dante and Zero? So far I've been using Wesker but he's a lot more difficult than the other two to learn (not that I'm doing all that well with either of the other two).

The best I'm really doing with Dante is landing LMH launch MMH QCF H into Million Dollars, and Zero a similar combo ending with his pillar hyper.

I like Cap but I cant land his hypers for shit. Deadpool is awesome but I don't want to go Dante/Deadpool because that will just end up being everyone online. Other characters I have interest in include Spiderman, Haggar, and Viper, but any suggestions are welcome. I like characters with decent range normals, or good ways of getting in, and can combo easily into hypers.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.

I'm thinking of running with x-23, super skrull and amaterasu. Of course I know this will change once I actually play the game. But right know they seem kind of fun. Storm and deadpool seem fun too.

What's with Amaterasu's hyper that does the 3 seasons or whatever? Does it hit people off-screen (like on the ground, when he's flying up in the air)?

Considering the developers said that the more they played her, the more they had to chop her health off to balance her I think it's quite possible. It sounds like she must have some sort of combo set up in her move set with all the flight and fire orbs that will likely trap someone in a pinball effect. I could easily see here doing a bread and butter combo into a orb filled relaunch into a some sort of further bounce off of the wall with her dashing super.

Just speculation, but her moveset is pretty boss. A careful player may just develop her into a superweapon with enough time in training. Just don't tag her in first to be safe. Roll out Thor to tank and act as battery first, and she should be good.

Can't go wrong with Doom.

Wait what? The PS3 has been my fighting game platform of choice so far because I don't wanna pay for another fightstick for the 360 (can people custom-build multi-platform sticks?) and I don't know if I'll renew Gold when it expires.
Yes. You want to look into the Multi-Console Cthulhu board.

Q:What is it?
A: The Cthulhu board is a printed circuit board designed to go inside of an arcade stick. By using a Cthulhu board, you can avoid having to hack an official pad, and instead use a clean board designed specifically to be used with arcade sticks.

Q:Where can I get it?
A: Online retailers carrying the Cthulhu, Chimps, and other stuff I make:
LizardLick.com
AkihabaraShop

---

Q: What consoles will it work on?
A: Currently, the MC Cthulhu will work on the PS3 (with all of the functionality of the original PS3 Only Cthulhu, so yes, it works just fine on PC), Xbox1, Dreamcast, Playstion/Playstation 2, Gamecube, NES, Super Nintendo, 3DO*, Sega Saturn and TurboGrafx16/PC-Engine consoles. Playstation support appears to work well with many converters.
(3DO support is currently limited to being the only controller. No daisy chain support or support in a daisy chain.)

I tried reading page number 68 which is where I left off last night and I don't even know what to say...

Also, fuck the Capcom store right up it's digital ass.

Edit: What will it take for this game to get an OT2? I've been under the impression that a thread needed 10K posts as a qualifier.

SF4 ain't got shit on that Mahvel!

It kind of drives me nutty not knowing what will happen with my Best Buy preorder of the SE edition. Will I see an email from them tomorrow telling me to pick up the game Tuesday? I should probably call the store to ask how this all goes down.

Been practicing hadoken quarter-circles and shoryuken zigzags in SSFIV. Yes, I'm a newbie. :)

Her moveset is SNK.

People want who want to say she's only rushdown or just keep away are lost. She does everything great. Its damn near impossible to do anything against her when someone is playing well... you just have to sit there and wait for them to screw up (it doesn't take much thank god) and then send her ass to the shadow realm.

Can't wait to get that strategy guide. I want to build around Akuma but I don't have a clue about team building.

I think another Justin Wong quote would get us there tonight.

Oh man guys. Wal-mart is having midnight tournies tomorrow on Valentines and the winner gets a free copy of MVC3!

Check your Wal-mart to see if yours is participating. I can't wait to hit a tourny the second the game comes out officially at my store.

I'm gonna roll with Thor, Chun-li, and someone fast for a third. Chun-li on push/assist and swapped in for corner crush down on scrubs with her kicking dash canceled combo, Thor on battery and to cap red meter, and I need someone fast for a main.

I'm thinking either Amaterasu for easy combos, and great keep away w/ timeslow setups for Thor or Zero for pure cheap practiced TVC madness.

I find it interesting that everyone is set on finding a set team to work with in the game.

All the joy for me is playing as different characters every round, lol. :(

I'm doing it wrong I'm sure. :p

nah, I do that too. but when you're playing against really good players, you're gonna wanna pick your most solid team if you want to have more fun with it.

Man, I can't wait to play around with assists and stuff. I'm planning on using them a lot more this game, they were never a huge part of my MvC2 play.

I would love, love, to see good matches validating Thor. I've seen his combos in training, but I want to see him in action. It'll eventually come, I'm sure, but I can't wait.

I think the capcom store just RROD on me.

For those that ordered from the Capcom store and have had their copies ship: Is the tracking number they supplied active for anyone? My copy "shipped" a while back, but USPS still doesn't have the item listed. Hmm.

I'm not going to be playing at launch anyway because of my current work schedule, but I'll have time come end of next week. I just hope it's not too late and I'm not too far behind the curve!

Edit: Spin, I got that error right before I got the email confirmation of my copy shipping.

You don't build around phoenix. You put together a two man squad that can guarantee full meter then you bullshit until its time for Gogeta.

Haha, I enjoy that as well. The problem though, is the RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF MOVES TO LEARN. Every time I go into a new character I just get paralyzed because I don't know or remember their moves. That's why I like to focus on a core few until I'm comfortable with them, and then judge whether or not I actually like using them.

Guess that makes sense, so many characters to choose...
