The biggest legitimate concern pro players have right now with MvC3 is that if it's /too/ easy to perform big damage combos with a few relatively simple techniques, there's no reason to do more complex and tricky combos or use deeper strategy later. That makes it "simplistic". The execution ease is being mistakenly blamed for this however by some. That the game has super inviting execution is a good thing.
The counter to the pro concerns though, is that Marvel is largely about not getting hit in the first place. What I expect is that the meta game will come into play when people figure out how to fake out the opponent and avoid ever being in a position to get hit by the big easy character killing combos - the "obvious setups".
Once upon a time, I saw someone rant and rave that Street Fighter 2 was stupid and dumb because Ryu was an invincible character - if you jumped over his fireball, he just did the dragon punch and knocked you down! It was impossible to win!
To echo the sentiment of some on SRK, the meat of the game may lay in more odd, interesting, or situational combos/tactics being useful not because they do big damage, but in order to get in or manipulate the opponent's positioning.
I would be really surprised if Capcom jumps the gun on patching the game for balance soon though; they put a lot of talk and bluster into claiming it was already well balanced after an insane amount of testing. I'd expect to see yearly balance updates on this thing.
And you know what? I'd be fine with that. Hell, it could become a seasonal tradition - every spring brings a new "season" of MvC3 with the last year's data poured into whatever tweaks seem necessary. Evolve the game at a regular interval. All they have to do, is the smart thing like BlazBlue is doing: do not overwrite the previous version and allow the players to select it in their game set up. Let people start online rooms set to MvC3 version 1.0, 1.2, 1.3, or whatever. Then everyone is happy... though Evo can fight it out - pun not intended - over which version to use a given year.
