Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds |OT| - Ya down with OTG? Yeah, you know me!

The biggest legitimate concern pro players have right now with MvC3 is that if it's /too/ easy to perform big damage combos with a few relatively simple techniques, there's no reason to do more complex and tricky combos or use deeper strategy later. That makes it "simplistic". The execution ease is being mistakenly blamed for this however by some. That the game has super inviting execution is a good thing.

The counter to the pro concerns though, is that Marvel is largely about not getting hit in the first place. What I expect is that the meta game will come into play when people figure out how to fake out the opponent and avoid ever being in a position to get hit by the big easy character killing combos - the "obvious setups".

Once upon a time, I saw someone rant and rave that Street Fighter 2 was stupid and dumb because Ryu was an invincible character - if you jumped over his fireball, he just did the dragon punch and knocked you down! It was impossible to win!

To echo the sentiment of some on SRK, the meat of the game may lay in more odd, interesting, or situational combos/tactics being useful not because they do big damage, but in order to get in or manipulate the opponent's positioning.

I would be really surprised if Capcom jumps the gun on patching the game for balance soon though; they put a lot of talk and bluster into claiming it was already well balanced after an insane amount of testing. I'd expect to see yearly balance updates on this thing.

And you know what? I'd be fine with that. Hell, it could become a seasonal tradition - every spring brings a new "season" of MvC3 with the last year's data poured into whatever tweaks seem necessary. Evolve the game at a regular interval. All they have to do, is the smart thing like BlazBlue is doing: do not overwrite the previous version and allow the players to select it in their game set up. Let people start online rooms set to MvC3 version 1.0, 1.2, 1.3, or whatever. Then everyone is happy... though Evo can fight it out - pun not intended - over which version to use a given year.

Anyway, I live a couple of blocks from a Best Buy doing a midnight launch. I was assured there would not be Special Editions available (only to those who pre-ordered) but I'm going to head over and give it a shot since it's so close. If not, hitting up a couple of other Best Buys in the morning.

Shame on me for not pre-ordering. Be back in 15.

I'm in NYC, by the way.

Not going to lie, I still have trouble beating the almighty Shoryuken, invincibility start up always gets me. :( How do I beat Ryu? D:

I'd really like to hear some of GAF's takes on Thor... So far my cheese of ankle slice assist + jump in bullshit works fine but I'd love to learn how to play Thor with some class.

Also, Inspectah Deck > Tupac

We have a lot of work to do then gosh darn, mountain time here. You guys are posting hard enough! I'll just be jamming to Sentinel's theme while I watch you guys mingle.

Most of the complaints I see around srk irc and stuff is about x-factor. It's even worse than sf4's ultra. It's nice that losing a character isn't always a death sentence anymore, but honestly it goes way overboard from what I've seen.

As for the simplistic execution complaint, I couldn't disagree with it more. I think all games should have the simplest execution possible. I prefer strategy and out-reading your opponent rather than being able to execute extremely tricky shit. It's more interesting. I don't enjoy having to master execution. It's just not fun.

I really want to play this game but I am a button masher to the core. Is this game friendly to button mashers?
There's a mode with Smash style controls. But I'll be struggling with the normal controls like a real man.

Regular updates kills a game. How is a game suppose to evolve if its continually updated? Honestly, I'd be VERY surprised if we saw a patch anytime in the near future, bet it.

Gentleman, it is time. :U

Years on upon years we have waited, but never given up. A year ago, in April of 2010, the greatest concentration of JOY was delivered with the announcement of Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. And it is now finally here. The greatest fighting game of all time is finally here, today.

We should not bicker about what cutlery, member of the 36 chambers, whether Kanye should have got that Grammy or if he should've got two, or even the greatest rapper of all time. We should embrace what based CapGod has given us this fateful day. The greatest concentration of HYPE known to man. And I propose a toast to ten more years of Mahvel, for this can only end well.

"Those NBA players aren't that good! They just practice shooting a lot!"

Playing it right now and just cleared it for the first time. This game is awesome. Combos are easier for ppl who didnt played before MvsC2 and everything is so bright its orgasmic. If I must say its like having a Marvel Comic in motion right in front of you. Feels a lot better than before, and characters are really balanced this time. Cant wait for DLC and what other stuff the can do.

I...I have no words.

My execution on this horrid pad (360) is going to take a lot of work... :/ I think I'm investing in a stick soon. Feels like I did better on my keyboard in MvC1...

This shit is crack.

Anyone know if it would be possible to snag a special edition without a preorder at a midnight launch? If so, what store? I'm desperate!

I want a patch that makes random stage the default instead of the Danger Room.
