Today is the day.

I bobbed back and forth on going day one on this but before I could think it through too deeply mine got shipped and is on a truck getting delivered now.

I have a Madcatz SF4 TE stick. Will it work with this game even though it's not Street Fighter?....

... I'm just kidding, don't have a coronary over my stupidity.

Couldn't find the CE at Target so I got the standard edition. They also had Killzone 3 but wouldn't sell it to me:(

Now to get through work...

I decided to ditch my team (Chun, X23 and Doom). I need more zoning characters. I might go with chris redfield, storm, and doom. I don't think I am experienced enough to do a good rushdown game in a real situation. I'm going to practice with x-23 a lot in the meantime....but I need a good zoning team. It seems like all the good keep away characters have a sizeable advantage in this game.

Have you checked out the srk mvc3 wiki, everything is explained really well on their regarding assists and types. I'm just disappointed I can only theory fighter until thursday when it's released in the UK :(
Yeah I have, I know what every assist does and such... I just can't find the one that fits me perfectly yet :P

Magneto's so different in this one, so I wouldn't call it copy and paste for another 10 years at all.

Ugh, online is a little confusing, I need someone to clear stuff up for me

- Do ranked and player-matches/lobbies keep track of separate numbers/ratios, all which end up getting added to my license card? I say this because when I played a few ranked matches the card that appears during the battle intro showed zeros, after playing a few matches then hopping into player lobbies those cards showed zeros again. The current numbers in my license card reflect all my wins/losses, even offline.

- The PPs/BPs got replaced by those special ranks, right? Those are what I'm working towards and they cannot be earned anywhere other than ranked matches?

- Am I the only one picking 4-bar lobbies that ends up playing like 1-bar matches in SSFIV? I think they're broken.

Finally, I don't understand how Capcom implemented connection bars in lobbies (broken as they are) but not in ranked matches. As it is now, ranked matches are basically "quick matches." I'm seriously considering skipping them altogether until they do.

No you didn't lol.

Got a copy of the 360 SE at Kmart this morning. So hyped. Definitely going to take over the break room 360 at work on my lunch break.

Um are you able to spectate matches in online play? On pS3?
No :(

Was messing with Akuma for about an hour trying to find a new second team - he's so boss with the combos into OTG dive kick into launcher again. And I was pleasantly surprised to see that both versions of his ground & air fireball super are in and just a build difference like I thought (hold H for the solid beam Ryu-style)

Also perfected busting out Raging Demon in a second by sliding the buttons - it's so sick with its speed and invincibility.

Using the octogate now with a stiffer spring, and things do come out tighter, but even though I put it back in properly, something still feels odd as no matter how hard I try, I can not hit clean diagonals - clean up down left right, but no matter what I always get another direction first so I might have to switch the spring back to test it without it again.

Sounds like your gate is the issue. You'll never have problems with true diagonals on a square gate.

Dormammu is the only keep away character I want to master in this game (FUCK KEEP AWAYS AND ZONERS!).

Not only is he a bad-fucking-ass and has a theme that gets me pumped up to kill some shit, but he has insane depth for a zoning character (2nd to MODOK). He can paint his hands red or blue in 3 different combinations (like all reds, all blues, 2 reds 1 blue, 2 blues 1 red etc.) yielding different special moves and the lvl3 ones are just fucking insane. These come out in an assists as well for some real surprise plays and combinations.

His LVL3 hyper is bad ass and his supers are excellent in that you can easily hit confirm into them. He is the Blackheart of this game taken to the next level.

haha, a possiblity for my gimped Chun team :-)

Skilotonn - I switched to my Seimitsu stick since I think the stiffer feel and snappy buttons are better for this game I think. The Sanwa's are just too touchy for a game that's too lax and sensitive with it's inputs.

Walked into Best Buy a couple minutes after they opened and managed to snag a special edition!

I was really mad at myself for not pre-ordering but it all worked out in the end. Can't wait to start playing.

Amazon, you best be getting this here at 11, because I don't want to wait until 5:30 in the afternoon to play this. Fuck school, I'll be schooling others. Fuck work, I'll be working in the lab.

Ranked Matches keep the win/loss counted total, Player Matches keep them per gaming session - even between lobbies till you exit the game.

Yeah, those ranks are basically the new PP, can only be earned in ranked. And yes, not having connection bars in ranked is a major oversight - getting someone all the way in Singapore is not cool, but I do have to chalk that up to playing the game before the rest of the world having it though. I'm guessing Capcom did it to screw over the boosters which is smart actually.

Is that true?
I can usually deal with it in SSF4 but if it works too well in this game it will annoy the hell out of me. From the looks of though it seems easier to get in, in this game so i'm going to build a rush down team with Felicia or X-23, Morrigan and Wesker specifically as he seems like a keep away character-killer.

Wat? Vergil is a totally different character to Dante, they do not fight at all the same.
They play differently in DMC 3 but much like Ken I don't think they need to go and waste a slot if the can just remove the eye patch and make him blue now unlike Wesker. That goes for potential Mega Man ( do we seriously need Toronadoru Waru Windoru 2?), War Machine, and Lilith alts too IMHO.

Yeah, I think I should tough it out a bit since I've only had the spring in for a few hours - I'll just keep hitting the lab till it's in muscle memory - it's important to master since so many characters use a dp-move to OTG into super, that's why I wanted to solve this situation pronto.

New AHVB? lolz.

Luckily Capcom had the foresight to keep the damage so low for his super since you can combo into and out of it - Level 3 X-factor might bring the serious pain though.

Different play styles are different play styles, no alt. costume is going to fix that. Unless they incorporate in the extra characters play style into the original (Ryu in MVC1 was the best way to get around this, he could switch from Ken to Akuma to original Ryu).

Megaman and Vergil deserve a slot in this game for their highly varied play styles. Lilith, Warmachine and Ken are highly debatable, their styles are very similar to the mains (Ryu/Morrigan/Iron Man). Same goes for Frank West and Chuck.

If Akuma makes it in then there is no excuse for Vergil/Megaman. Hell if they make Ken play considerably different than Ryu/Akuma, I'll take that as well. If they can give 3 slots to SF, RE, DS then Capcom can give 3 slots to the DMC series and MM. Both are really big.

I would still take Gene/Strider over all the other characters though.

ok, it's newb question time. Doing missions, playing with Chris-- it's asking to do Air S, Crouching L, Crouching M, Standing H, combination punch H. I know how to do these and all, but how do you actually chain them together? I've tried doing each really fast but it only lets me do the first move and then it resets no matter how fast I do it?

PS I'm absolutely retarded at fighting games.

Just tried it out (mission 4 right?). Where are you having problems? You just need to be fast doing all the inputs and make sure to release joystick from crouch to neutral when doing standing H (while immediately buffering the combination punch H)

edit: ah! First move as in air S? Try pressing S when you're as close to the ground as possible. Otherwise it's not going to combo.

The timing after you land a jump in is delayed, it isn't really like previous SF games where you can attack as soon as you land.

Just work on the jump S, crouching L; then go from there.

Stupid question: How do you cancel out of regular attacks? I'm doing Ryu's Mission thing, and #4 wants me to complete a combo using a cancel, and as far as I can tell I need to cancel the Standing H to go into the Roundhouse kick, but I'm missing something obvious I think.
