Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds |OT| - Ya down with OTG? Yeah, you know me!

It's my first Marvel game and boy do I suck. I played for about 4 hours last night and lost about 50% of the time to my friend who is terrible at 2-D fighting games (can't do a fireball). He was basically mashing buttons and beating me. It's going to take a real long time to become even half way decent at this game but I am still loving it.

My thumb is killing me as is my wait to get home and play some more.

If there's one thing I wish they could change at the moment is how easy it is to land level 3s or other really strong hypers off a j.S or something.

Mags' level 3, Storms Hailstorm (which is a little ridiculous for level 1), etc.

I don't think it's a problem. Meter is harder to come by in this and spending three bars is a lot. Most level 3s do damage in the range of 400,000 damage or so and most characters have meterless BnBs that can do that much anyways.

Seriously, why Zero but no Mega Man :/
Same reason why Ken is not in this game. They went the lazy way, took Zero and Ryu from TvC.

I only had a chance to play briefly with some friends offline. The Marvel Vs. controller is the real deal though. Very fluid pulling off combos, moreso than the fightpad. It basically feels exactly like an arcade stick you are able to thumb down on. I can't wait to give it a go with Pac-Man CE.

If anyone has any interest in them let me know, I'm going to post in the b/s/t thread with them but haven't been home. I managed to snag four extra ones.

my paring as of right now is: Deadpool, Phoenix and Super Skrull.

Don't know how this ranges with you guys but I like how these guys play.

Phoenix turned into Dark Pheonix in my fight against Galactus. Don't know if this happens everytime you fight the big guy.

You know I learned this lesson in SF4 but I bought into the hype about this being easier on the inputs then SFIV.

I just don't have the hand dexterity to pull this stuff off, I get stuck on every single characters mission mode as soon as it asks me to do a cancel, I just can't do it.
I wouldn't worry too much about mission mode as a lot of the stuff on there really isn't usable in real fights or there are just better easier alternatives. But other than that, you can't really expect to be amazing at this game when it's only your first day with it. Give yourself some time in training mode and just practice the basic stuff: A->B->C->S hold up A->B->C->S. And then mix things up every now and then with assists. You might want to check out the SRK guide too.

By the way, what are you playing with?

I'm using X-23 kinda okay right now, have no idea who to pair her up with you. Ammy is pretty good but that's only because I love her ranged assist, that thing is cheap as hell. :O Any suggestions?
I've been working a Weapon X Team. Deadpool, Wolverine and X-23. It's fun for the theme if nothing else. They all fit together really well. :)

I'm really liking Dormammu, he's great with all his variation. He kind of reminds me of Blackheart.

That being said, I'm spending a lot of time co-ordinating attacks so enemies can't get closer to me. It feels as if I'm being cheap - am I? I'm using different moves and such, but I just feel like I'm being a bit of a jerk. =P

Been having decent success with Zero, Wesker, X-23. I have no idea if they theoretically work well together on paper or anything like that.

I might swap one of them out for someone with a strong projectile assist.

Nah, a zoning character is a zoning character. Someone using Wolverine shouldn't feel like a jerk if they keep rushing in on you.

I never played much Marvel 2 so the mission mode kind of fast tracked me into picking up the small things here and there about the game.

So it's a nice bonus for those that are relatively new to the VS games.

I'm really finding Dante to be a cheap bastard. I haven't used him at all but for some reason when he lands a combo everyone seems to be doing the same combo. I really like storm. Using her dash to get in close super fast seems to be working.

This can't be stated enough. Mission mode is more of a puzzle than a teaching tool. It should have a disclaimer.

At least the manual's pretty good.

Nah bro it's just the bread and butter combos.

Everyone who is using Deadpool is a cunt and I hate them and they must die.

It's so irritating. It's almost as bad as Cable, maybe even worse. They all spam the handguns a ridiculous amount.

Good ways to counter? >_>

Eh in this game the mission mode combos are usable (no st. mp fadc st. mp fadc st. mp xx srk loolol) for the most part. It's not much of a teaching tool for beginners but for people that have some fighting game experience it's a good way to learn combos for their chars.

Someone else with a projectile?

I still have one more character to unlock, but as of right now Dante, Phoenix and Dormammu are my favorite to play as. I heard Dante is a good n00b character. What are the general thoughts on the other two?

Actual BnB's are much easier to do, are a lot longer, and do more damage. Mission mode shows what you can chain, but are usually impractical and awkward. Not difficult, but largely pointless.

It definitely is a teaching tool for beginners though. Learning some of the stuff in there will lead to other, more effective combos for sure.

So, I'm looking through the MVC3 Stra guide and I'm admiring all of the character models in their marvelous glory. I get to back of the book and notice the Shuma/Jill section and I'm thinking to myself, "Shuma looks bloody awesome." ::flips to Jill's section::...

Or why the chick from Devil May Cry and not Mega Man.

Or why Spencer and not Mega Man. :\

Because they already have Arthur, who fills the same kind of gameplay niche that Mega Man would. Every character in the game has a unique style (only Ryu and Akuma are similar), but Mega Man really wouldn't be very different from Arthur.

I am god awful at this game but I am enjoying the hell out of it

More people really need to give Haggar a chance. His lariat is absolutely monstrous.

Big fan of Haggar so far. You can do most of his moves and cancel into the lariat and on top of it his strong QCF automatically bounces you and makes it pretty easy to relaunch and start an air combo. Also his health doesn't hurt against the insane amount of Dantes I'm fighting now.

Eh, I didn't just mean magic series combos but yeah I'll agree that some of the mission mode combos in this game are still stupid and impractical. For the most part though I think this game's mission mode is a much better teaching tool than S(S)FIV trials, at least for intermediate players.

Someone pointed out to me that Spencer's bionic arm is always in the back regardless of facing. Now it bugs the hell out of me everytime he's on screen.

I dunno why I was expecting them to make animations from both sides, but it just really stands out with Spencer.

Phoenix is a very high risk character but the rewards are great. I love using her though I am not good enough to really use her properly without dying really quickly. I sometimes just keep her and wait to use Dark Phoenix at the end of a battle with X-Factor but I don't think it's wise to put all your eggs in that basket.

Dormammu is pretty hard to use, I believe. You constantly have to evaluate and predict where your enemies are and use the appropriate techniques to counter them. Still, I love him. He's like a kind of Blackheart replacement for me. =) His Black Holes are great to combo into other moves.

I haven't done his missions yet, but some of his long moves just seem really easy to cancel out of and just doing the charge to pop up, down dash, launch from ground to hyper will basically kill you if have the hyper to bring another character for a hyper. It's been pretty hard for me to stop that.

Teleport if you got it, ala Dante. Super if they keep doing it and you can get the timing right. If you have good assists that could help, aka invincible Hsien Ko, etc. etc.

Yeah, it's better than SF4's, but for quite a few characters it quickly goes from 'extremely basic' to 'you'll probably never use this in an actual match.' And even if they are good combos they can be tricky for some folks since there STILL isn't a demo showing you how to do the combo. And the inputs aren't displayed on screen at all times. And the later missions can't fit all the moves on screen simultaneously. It's an improvement but it's still lacking.

At least it teaches you the super easy bullshit Sentinel combos though!

K, mission mode is shitting me. Won't clear Wesker's 7th mission even though I'm hitting the full 10 hit combo -_-

If it's the one I'm thinking of, you may be hitting the opponent with S instead of H while in the air after the teleport. Make sure that you strike with H, then follow with S while you're on the ground. If you add in another attack while airborne, it will count the combo as failed.

So far, I'm loving the game. Fits like a glove. I haven't encountered any projectile spam yet, so I'm not sure what the best counter is for it. I'm guessing Dante's teleport? But no one seems to use it. I need to get into the lab. So addictive!

just jump again and immediately hit heavy. but you can't do that midscreen can you?

I know you can do launch, C airdash B C, land, jump C airdash C S midscreen.

Should work from midscreen. I saw Yipes doing it in that magneto vid he did. Maybe I'm not delaying one of the mediums enough. The character is always too high above me when I jump again to hit them with C

I played a few more matches last night and I think I've gotten worse. No, scratch that... I think I just played people online who actually know how to play now.

I've decided on X-23 as my main, but I still can't make up my mind about who I want as my other two characters yet...

Also, are some characters not in mission mode? I don't remember seeing some people like Chris, Ammy, or Tron. Maybe I was just tired, but I'm pretty sure I scrolled through the whole list.

Yeah, his combos aren't incredibly difficult to pull off, but that just means you have to work on not getting hit with proper spacing, zoning, etc.

Speaking about mission mode, can you get the display on screen to go from the name to the inputs you need to do? I feel like pressing select does it? I forget. I thought I tried that last night to no avail and had to keep using the menus.

The list scrolls up and down and then you can change your company (Capcom/Marvel) by moving left and right. I was bit confused when I saw only Marvel characters on my first start up.

It's not their fault. Deadpool says "Have gun will shoot!" not "Have gun will maybe shoot sometimes if it's not cheap to do so"

Ahhh okay. Come to think of it, I didn't see any Capcom characters at all. Hahaha, I feel dumb now. insert :lol

Nope Capcom seems to have screwed that up in Mission mode. You basically have to hit start and A every time you want to see inputs or see what you actually need to do once you launch. Start+Select/back does reset though, which is nice.

Storm and Phoenix last few missions have a big spike in difficulty, can't see anyone using them in a real match, but you can learn alot by going through the motions. Working on Storms 10th and Phoenix's 8th now.

Okay help me out here a bit. I received a broken case. The inside plastic is cracked, where the bottom is falling apart a bit. Basically the connecting between the two Tin's is broken. It's broken, but it's still holding together. I contacted Amazon and they said I could return it for a new one or take 20% off the price I paid(12$). Do you know if it is possible for Capcom to sell replacement cases? I don't really want to wait for a new copy, and 20% is tempting. Is there a way to repair them too?

I need some help from the experienced.

I hate switching characters just because someone is spamming projectiles. Thanks to SF I can adapt, but sometimes that shit is frustrating as hell. My team consists of Wesker / Mag / Sent in that order. Wesker is point and builds up meter for me to go to work with either Maggy or Sent. Outside of the EM Disruptor assist and Sent force, how do you get in on keep-away assholes like Deadpool and co.

Disruptor comes out quick, but eating chip damage when I'm on the field with Mag is not ideal, especially when they have someone like Storm on reserve for Ice Storm shenanigans.

I'm already considering replacing Sent, but right now the team "works" for me.

It's worth asking. I remember my RE5 Steelbook was broken, and they had me send the broken one to them so they could send me a new Steelbook. I can't remember who I contacted. It may have been the Capcom Store, even though I didn't order from them.

Switch the art and disc to the case of a game you don't play anymore.
