What was capcom thinking hiding record and play for press buttons room? Quite a few people had a hard time finding it expecting it to be in the menu somewhere (myself included).

There's honestly never a time I don't recommend someone to get a stick. I just sort of present what my last post is a bit of an objective warning of information that people should be aware of.

For my personal experience they are 100% kick ass. After my initial hurdle I really felt like a giant barrier was broken to have me stop worrying about inputs anymore and I could just PLAY the game like it was meant to be played. A good example of the improvement was back in regular vanilla SF4 on controller I don't think I beat anyone's challenges fully or even close to. Fast forward to SSF4 and I completed everyones with sticks. Characters like C.Viper to do super jump cancelling into Ultras was just beyond me on a pad, but once I got the stick I felt like I could be more precise on where I wanted my inputs to land on the stick.

The one thing I had to do though was pay an extra $3 dollars to switch out a plastic piece inside called a "gate" to go from square gate to octagonal gate. My issue with the gate that was inside was I would get stuck on the corners often on the stick. I felt like for another $3.00 why not see if it fixes the issue for me. Sure enough once I put that in I reached that 99% goal of execution the same day pretty much.

Maybe message Markman on here to see if there's any deals going on at MadCatz for promotions so you can get a Tournament Edition Round 2 for $99.99 plus shipping. From the few sticks I've used they really are the best bang for every buck hands down.

Just from hearing that side of things, I am pretty much sold on getting a stick now. You basically described exactly what I can achieve right now on mvc3. The later missions are just beyond me because I don't feel like it registers.

Thanks for the sage advice. Looks like I need to find a TE stick now.

Switching from characters with air dashes to characters that don't is melting my brain.

People might bitch about the octagonal as much as they want I too was raised in American arcades, and here it has always been octagonal gates. I also could never get used to the square gates, props for those who can, but it just wasn't for me!

Room is up, tag is TeknomanEX. I'm also on the MvC3 gaf tag, so check that too.

Also now I know we really need spectating. lol at fighting credit cards.

American style (Happ, IL) sticks don't have gates, octagonal or otherwise. And people that can't get used to square gates are just doing it all wrong. With a Japanese stick you don't ride the gate, so people that feel the need to get an octagonal or circle gate are just putting too much arm into it or something.

Wont join gaf chat for mvc3 until there is spectating... was so fun on ssf4, they ruined it by not including it at launch :(!

Its just the way some people play it, and its just fine! Hell it works perfect for my style of play. In arcades you could always ride the motion and for me it play better than working within the square.

Ok, I lied, I'm still playing.

So, if there's no way to reliably swap a character out when you're on defense (ie blocking and or dashing, and or jumping and or getting your ass kicked), then what's the best strategy to keep Phoenix and other glass cannons alive?

Np. Check your PM's for some general tips on what to look for, where to go, and what to avoid.

As for MvC3: Why is Chris Redfield so GAWDLIKE?!

Edit: @Antitype

A good way to tag out characters is to use a hyper combo, and quickly use the other characters hyper to tag that second character in.

An offensive way of tagging in of course is to launch them into the air and using an assist tag in.

I watched this video today. It was a pretty good watch and I learned a few things from it. Might be worth your time to hit up.

When you're blocking use the push block to get them off of you. If they are at range, spamming projectiles, activate a hyper then change characters by doing the hyper command again.

Crossover Counters are an option if the character you want to tag in has a good assist for that purpose (fast startup, invincibility, or what have you).

DHCs are also an option but require at least 2 bars of meter.

This info is in the OP.

Isnt there a block tag, except you have to match the opponents inputs or something?

I uploaded a video that might help some chun players out. Basically, I couldn't consistently do her Mission 10 combo and it was bothering me a lot. That standing L is hard to connect after the j.S. So I made a slight variation to the combo by removing the j.S entirely. The timing of the combo needs to be changed a bit but it's faaaar easier for me to hit consistently now. The result ends up being the same for the most part.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Chun-Li combo variation

You'll notice the X Factor version has a very distinctive rhythm that's easy to confirm as well. I dunno about you guys, but this slight variant makes the entire combo a lot more practical for me in an actual match and the timing is easier to learn.

Sometimes you do have to just naked tag and hope for the best, but that should be a last resort. The ideal situation is getting a kill and then tagging in during the downtime before your opponent's next character jumps in. If you have meter to spare, you can DHC to get a character out (by doing a hyper combo, then putting in the inputs for a hyper combo for the next character in line) or crossover counter (where while in blockstun you press toward + A1/A2, costs one meter). DHC costs a minimum of two bars, maybe more depending on if you do it again to get your third character in instead or if you choose a level 3 hyper at some point and basically your character(s) come in doing the hyper that you picked. With the crossover counter, your char tags in and does the assist move.

I gotta admit, I kinda stopped logging in the chat because there was little point. No awesome comments on what just happened, no chance at seeing the other people play, and most likely I'd end up in a isolated room with a monster like Floyd and waste their time. In other words, SF4 vanilla all over again but worse because we have experienced spectator + chat.

I cannot wait to see how much shenanigans people will find out of this game as they get more in depth with their favorite characters.

For being the worst character in the game, Ryu actually has a 500k+ meterless advanced BnB combo that works from anywhere in the screen.

These guys have some sick Ryu combos (saishuu and the infamous trag) :
Featuring double wave dashes as necessary for Ryu's BnB combo

Adding in 2 tatsu loops as part of juggles

More of Ryu's ridiculous combo potential once you can get the double wave dashes and tatsu loops

Classy and stylish Ryu combo from Trag

After shin SRK, you can actually go to regular magic series (but with M instead of L) to launcher and BnB air combo.
If you do x-factor before the shin SRK, you'll do about 1.2 mil damage killing off most characters in the game besides sentinel who you can later kill with the follow-up juggle after shin srk.

Haha, I must be entertaining for the people on the other side of the match.

I'm always like

"PLEASE!.....PLEASE!.....PLEEEAAAAAAAAASE!?....PLEEAAAAAAAAAASSSSSEEEEEEE?!"

That's basically me sarcastically BEGGING the game to actually recognize my inputs to switch out characters and/or start hyper combos.

But no, they just stand around and get their ass beat.

Fun game this.

I gotta figure out how to close distance on people with Arthur. I dont want to be projectile spammy...but I might have to...just to close the distance.

EDIT: According to some posters at Capcom Unity, there was talk of adding a spectator mode pretty soon, but nothing at all on replays.

I think I would be more excited about spectator mode anyway.

Yeah I can live without replays, but watching a match would add that much more to the game. Especially in full player lobbies.

EDIT: Aw embarrassing, i've got 3 losses and 0 wins so far lol.

Do you have a link by any chance? I'd like to read what they were saying.

That's sort of the price we/Capcom paid to get the game out February 15th to capitalize on money I think. Trying to compete later on, but having more content on disc probably would have hurt their sales. If Capcom IS thinking along these lines, then they planned to add certain features like spectators as DLC later on.

Or I'm giving them more credit than they deserve, since they had DLC costumes planned almost right away to make money off whoever buys it instead of spending time on what was already on disc.

According to a Tweet by Arturo Sanchez, through Henry Cen, Chinatown Fair, the famed arcade in New York, will be closing on February 23, 2011.

Apparently, they've lost their lease after decades of being in business and will close down in a few days.

Chinatown Fair has been featured in the New York Times and was known as one of the top arcades still left in the United States, and it's really unfortunate that they'll be closing operations.

Earlier, it was reported that Arcade Infinity, in Rowland Heights, California, will be closing their doors on February 26, 2011.

Horrible news. Arcade infinity now Chinatown fair... Damn.

All I have to say is if they force us to pay for spectator mode via dlc, I probably will
still pay for it.....and that's why I will probably need to be shot in the face for it.

Good games Teknoman, Fatal, Rummy and everyone else!

Yup that was fun, but now I know I really need to practice more. I keep forgetting about the air combo tags. Fatal was kicking me all over the place :P

From arturos twitter

Chinatown fair has been in operation for decades and longer than I've been alive so I'm kinda shocked. This is as bad as shgl or ai closing

Also Henry is saying he is trying to get the ssf4ae cabinets moved to a undisclosed location is Brooklyn off the n train. This is too crazy

Henry Cen said they lost their lease, that's what happened. Eviction notice :( #chinatownfair

I have been talking to Henry Cen for the past hour to try to get him to tell me he's lying, but he swears it's 100% true. :(

I'm talking to Henry Cen and he said Sam got a eviction notice and the last day will be the 23rd, this is not a troll #Chinatownfair

Henry Cen is telling me Chinatown fair lost it's lease after decades of being in business and will be closing on the 23rd?!? Omg....

This is a huge blow to the east coast. Damn man.

Max/Tony Stark players, got any great vids of Iron Man tech I can learn from?

Had to drop Magneto, too many pixies trying to fight on their own on my team :p At least a Unibeam assist will hold people in one spot so I can actually combo something.

Nothing like pissing off Dark Phoenix players by running away from regular Phoenix for the win. :D

I have 3 characters left.

I'm impressed with anyone that can actually keep Phoenix alive for an entire match on a consistent basis. That bitch BLEEDS.
