Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds |OT| - Ya down with OTG? Yeah, you know me!

How good is the guide for MvC3? The printed one that is. Does it have a lot of BNB combos and what not? Is there an alternative on the web somewhere?

Oh yeah, can't remember if I've bitched about this yet, but if I did it's so awful it's worth bitching about again:

If you search for a player match using Fight Request it functions like offline Versus mode. At the end of every match you're given an option to rematch, choose characters, or exit. It's fast and it's wonderful. I hated playing player matches with strangers in SF4 because of the down time between matches. This isn't an issue here.

But if you create a lobby it's all SF4 style. Booted back to the lobby after every match. Have to sit through the countdown. Choose your characters. Wait for the game to load. Even if it's 1v1. It's terrible. They need to patch the hell outta this game.Problems that shouldn't be there to begin with.

One downside to Fight Request is how it'll frequently match me up with an opponent who just exited my game. It makes me feel kinda bad, since usually they're guys who are obviously just starting out and I worry they think I'm some bully cruising for easy wins. I'm sorry, stranger! I'm not out to get you. Blame the computers.

(I guess this wouldn't be an issue if I used a mic, but man, I hate wearing one when I play these games. I can't talk and play at the same time.)

The best is killing phoenix players just before they get 5 bars, and the last hit for the KO gives them the last bit of meter they need but they are already dead. lol

God, be that guy. It may up your chances of winning. You'll gain some confidence. It can be fun to play as Sent. It's not a big win button. It's stupid to reject it because of this silly online backlash -- you'd think from all the bitching that it's the Ken of MvC3 but I rarely run into Sent online, and I've played an obscene amount in the last 10 days. Though I haven't done much ranked. Maybe it's different in there.

I'd rather play against Sentinel than another fucking gimmicky Phoenix. Most of them remind me of really terrible Dead Ringer spies in TF2. It's hilarious. They really, really don't like it if you refuse to kill them and trigger Dark Phoenix...if you even let them build that much meter, that is. They usually end up quitting.

Also worse than Sent: all these Dantes/Ryus/Deadpools I keep running into who just spam hypers from across the screen every time they get meter. It's like the wakeup SRK of MvC3 but far less effective. Many of them DHC into stuff like Wolverine's Berzerker Barrage (?) hyper. From full screen. It's painful.

(Of course I do many similarly stupid things but it's cute when I do it.)

Oh yeah I got this from one of those guys. He ended up quitting. In player match.

It's astounding how many people don't realize their characters have teleports. Do they not list Dante's in the command list?
Nothing wrong with Sent but it's better to leave him in reserve lest you rely on him too heavily to the detriment of improving your game with other characters. He's my douche filter...if I win and the other guy isn't a raging baby I'll usually rematch with another character.

It is one of the best Guide books ever. Hell, it even give you info on Jill and Shuma. One thing I like about the guide is the combo set up. I know this wasn't made by the guy who runs the Devastation tournament. This guide is one of the best Guides, for a fighting game, in a long time.

I finally got around to playing this today. I mainly played offline, as I don't really have a good grasp of the versus mechanics.

I'm still having a few issues with the OTG stuff. Also, I can't consistently land the tag combos.

My team right now is Ryu/Hulk/Sentinel (yes, Sentinel).

I dread playing online. I played the cpu on very hard and was having difficulty with that.

But I must agree with everyone's opinion that it's a fun game. With the exception of Marvel Super Heros (despite the gem mechanic), it's the first versus game that I've played for more than a few minutes.

Don't worry about it. I play Sentinel. I don't care what my peers think. I'm here to win. I'm not trying to be with Rookies and the Bleachers... aka the sidelines.

Did a quick Sent run and went 2-2. So yeah I'd get wins but how much would it really help? Dude is on some bullshit tho, but I feel like I was playing knowing that I had that Sent bomb in waiting, that's not fun at all.

So for my third or at least 2nd piece I'm looking at Mags. I can pull of somethings with him and if Wesker didn't Maximum Wesker me to death I'd have 3 wins tonight.

So it's Chun/(X-23?)/and Mag'frikken'Neto
So that's a start.

also fuck Dante and all of his shenanigans.

Just out of curiosity, when you got the game did you jump right online? Have you tried doing mission and training mode? It really helps you get a grasp of the game. I have yet to play a vs match being im new to the versus game(I played MV2 but didn't really try to learn it) After a few days of mission and training mode i feel im starting to get the mechanics.

I think I do better in Ranked games on PSN over Live. But I don't really care about my Win/Loss record. Keeps it fun and less stressful.

Damn. Sorry wallet, ordered. Thanks for the heads up.

So I played my first tournament this past weekend with Sentinel/Doom/Wesker (Sentinel point) and tied for 13th or so. There were no Sentinels in the Top 3.

I think Sentinel is ridiculously overrated now. He has many weaknesses:

- You can zone him out
- You can outmaneuver him in the air
- If he whiffs any of his super armor moves, you get a fat punish
- He doesn't get good Oki after finishing a combo with a super (Plasma Storm lets them tech out and Hyper Sentinel Force pushes them away midscreen)
- When he activates X-Factor, he has to get up close since he needs the threat of a command grab. Just Super Jump, try to stay in the air and there's not much to worry about besides chip damage

He's still good on a team (not on point) because:

- His assist is awesome, one of the best in the game
- High health and comeback potential if they screw up

But yeah, I think Sentinel is pretty free to rush chars like Wolverine/X23 and even Haggar, the pipe beats all of his super armor moves. And any character can kill you with X-Factor combos, you don't have to be Sentinel for that (it's just easy when scrubs are mashing one-hit attacks in your face).

So yeah, Sentinel is probably an upper-mid tier char and no doubt good to have on a team, but I don't think he's "required" like many folks were preaching on Day 1.

What had happened was that I hit online day 1 and got a few wins, felt good, and then went back and got rocked. I had planned for 3 wins per session until that became obvious that it wasn't going to happen, I went to listen to some linkin park, quit and now I'm back for a second try.

I've have hit training mode quite a bit, and I need to stay offline for my sanity. So perhaps I'll hit up arcade mode and mission mode, which i had been avoiding due to my lack of execution. I was trying to find a team before that but yeah I'll hit that up tomorrow.

I agree. I haven't been using him much lately. At the moment not many people know how to deal with keepaway so I stopped leading off with a keepaway team. It was scaring folks off and it wasn't much fun pummeling guys who were having a hard enough time doing magic series into launcher.

But if you're starting out, struggling, and dunno who to use as the third member of your team I think going with Sent is a fine idea. He's one of the few characters with truly worthwhile (and EASY) Missions, which helps a lot. He's kinda like super powered training wheels.

I think hopping online is a good idea but it looks like most folks are going for ranked, which seems like a mistake to me. Much better to use Fight Request and mess around in player matches. Less pressure, less bullshit.

Hit 'em fast and don't crouch beforehand. That one was a bitch for me. I dunno how people play Chun.

I agree 100% player match is all i played in SSF4, I found myself getting angry playing ranked, but then again SSF4 always angered me win i lose, unless im playing someone who is just flat out better then it's cool. I'm most likely gonna jump online this week and go through my growing pains, but yes player match is definitely the way im going for a while.

ive tried to keep up with this post everyother day or so but i may have missed this.

http://iplaywinner.com/

Has a list of upcoming streams and tournaments that are updated 24/7, teamspooky/teamkhaos do alot of Marvel/SSIV streams, you should definitely follow them on justintv so you get updates when they stream.

i got matched up with a guy who has a terrible win/loss record and he was spamming like crazy. made it tough to figure out but i managed to beat him at the end. really sucks when i bump into those guys.

I was all hung up on my inability to reliably do Aerial Drills until I saw Clakey D on that Wednesday Night Fights stream. He did pretty well and I don't think I saw him use that move once! Just lots of air dashing and jumping C. Crosses up easily, hitbox seems to be huge, may land an air throw instead. Can easily follow up with s.B, s.C, Drill, etc. I'm sure the air drills come in handy but man I dunno if I'm ever gonna get that shit down.

In case you haven't seen the matches: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOVCpbupr_4#t=35m0s

Actually just rewatching it he gets eliminated while doing an air drill on Sent.
Hmm... I may have looked at Tron the wrong way. Those air dash to jumping H do look pretty annoying to deal with, even for Sentinel. I might have to pick her up again. The constant "Whoaoaoa..." could get a little grating, though.

Also seen in that vid: I need to switch my Morrigan's assist again. Dark Harmonizer looks awesome. I don't think she got hit at all, and more meter is always good.

You can't go wrong with Sentinel.

That's a reason I'd use her. I was laughing my ass off watching Clakey spam that move.

Learned a valuable lesson: Dont get cocky and try to attack X-factor D. Phoenix. Also keep air combos going for as long as possible (accidentally hit S without a direction >_<)

Well, I AM maining Felicia, so annoying voices is a part of my arsenal. I count Felicia's helium induced voice as a weapon in itself. Best part is, they keep the language YOU picked when you go online. I had my English Morrigan face a Japanese Morrigan, for instance.

Also Tron'd need the fire assist, obviously. "Ah-chchch!"

Tron's WHOAOAOA is so fucking annoying. I got so fed up listening to it during her missions that I switched to Japanese, thinking it might be an improvement. It isn't.

During a match it's pretty funny, though. I know it's gotta be annoying the hell out of my opponent. Even though I keep blowing the followup combo (always go for the drill way too early and end up doing cr.C) it's no big deal because I know WHOAOAOA is chipping away at their sanity.

Dark Harmonizer is really awesome. I haven't tried any other Morrigan assist. Maybe I'm missing out.

Echoing what others have said, don't hold down before starting the ground series, and you only have to tap up briefly before starting the air series.

I keep the stick neutral for much of her missions just use it to change from air to ground and crouching and such.

That jump L after crouch H seems to be very important to getting good damage for her so you should learn the timing well.

Man, I am having trouble with my combos tonight like whoa (whoaoaoa?). I feel like I'm regressing already. Gonna take a few nights off from playing others for some serious training room workouts. Gotta get dem fingers in shape.

On a positive note I'm really starting to come around to the music in this game. Was bummed the PS3 version doesn't have custom soundtracks, but the songs are pretty solid, surprisingly.

Just ordered the guide from Amazon now that they are back in stock, during the teamspooky beat the best ssf4 stream Arturo was saying it's one of the best guides out there up there with the Japanese fighting guides.

Ya, I had that problem with chun when I first touched her. Don't even think about charging, and you'll almost never get it on purpose.

Man so close, good fights though guys. I learned alot.

Also I really need to hang in training mode more, and figure out better assists for my teams.

Knux-Future said:
LIGHTNING KICKS INTO MORE LIGHTNING KICKS WITH A SIDE OF LIGHTNING KICKS

Actually a good chun player shouldn't be using LL much. It hurts a lot of her combos because it increases the hits a lot without adding much damage. They're probably mashing a lot if they do legs often (other than her awesome assist)

It only takes 3 inputs to do legs (SF4 was 5) so it's easy to get if you're doing any kind of mashing during a combo.

Really? I wanted to learn her for all the flying fireball shenanigans. The assist was just the awesome bonus prize, even more so after finding about how fast and safe it is to use in most fights.

Though looking at some of her past repetoires, I'd have killed for Soul Eraser to replace Finishing Missiles.

I have no idea how the flying fireball stuff works, but yeah she just looks interesting to me, though the meter building thing is a big part of it. That astral vision shit is also great.
