I find it strange when people complain about links in SSF4. Wasn't SF2's combo system essentially the same? I've never heard anyone complain about links in that game.

I don't remember 1-frame links in SSF2T. Only jump cancel into special cancel or super cancel for the most part...

God, I'd kill to be able to turn on SRK shortcuts for that fuckin Spidey mission.

Every time i run up against someone with projectiles super jumping across the screen seems to lock them down. For some reason they continue to throw projectiles even when I am off the screen then I catch them with a pipe to the face.
That's more or less my method of handling them, too. I'm a Joe player, so it's Super Jump>Red Hot Kick. Wesker's Samurai Edge>Teleport helps, and his projectile counter would help even more. But the latter requires precise timing and the dp motion for it is something I'm still working on.

Yeah, but when people talk about the abundance of 1 frame links in ssf4 they're typically exaggerating and complaining about links in general.

how does spidermans ultimate web throw work?

But yeah, unblockable airthrow. Does not work on grounded opponents.

It's disheartening that I take the time to learn the moves of my main three, only to end up mashing buttons half the time in my matches.

Best thing to do is cut them up. So if a combo starts with, say, air S, standing L, M H, just get that bit locked down and then rinse and repeat..

Taskmaster/X23/Sent is awesome. XF Sent has saved me quite a few times. :|

Love L M H bH S M H fH L M qcf LM or MH with Taskmaster though.

Dirt nap is fucking awesome too.

Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo had some pretty unforgiving links as well. It just didn't have the same following as IV.

Even worse was cancelling into a super.

I'm really enjoying the combination of She-Hulk and Tron. Their supers and assists seem to mesh together well. She-Hulks OTG sets up some stuff for Tron and Tron's fire assist is just awesome. Tron's lunchtime super into She-Hulks airgrab super makes the airgrab miss but lands She-Hulk directly infront of the opponent to continue beating on em. Oh and I noticed after Tron does a normal throw you can hit with She-Hulks OTG for a little extra damage.

Just need to decide on the third member of the team. Both characters are pretty big and slow so I'm thinking I need someone faster who can deal with keepaway characters well.

Trying to roll with Dante on point, Spencer and Taskmaster for cover. Tend to use Spencer for shortening the gap between opponents and Taskie for advancing and unblockables (I think his assist hits high). Using Dante's vertical assist to stop jumpers currently, but I might try out his others later. I feel good using these three currently because I feel comfortable with their combos. I might change up sometime soon, probably to a battery or something. No idea really..

^I also have the same problem when I'm playing an actual match. I get too nervous and start forgetting I have a launcher button, not spacing myself with Dormmamu, pressing shit and hoping stuff happens, etc. etc.

I got mine on release day. You probably ordered too late and were stuck with the 2nd batch of shipments since the 1st were already all claimed for.

I did, it got here noon on release day.

SF2 links worked better because of the CLEAR frames of animations (because there were fewer) made it more possibler to nail them

in SF4 with full frames of animations; it makes it way more difficult to time according to the hit reactions and animations

Man I have been changing teams like I change my socks. :(

I was bent on playing Dante/Wesker/Iron Man before the game came out. Then somewhere in the middle I fell in love with Wolverine, then Trish, Dormammu.

Now my cousin challenges me to a RANDOM 3 V 3 MVC3 match and I get Zero/Dr.Doom/Skrull. Man I totally fell in love with Zero and his lightning dashes in mid-air, reminds me of Strider. It's also really easy to do combos with him (except for his Buster buffer stuff that's a bit trick on a pad). Doom's Hidden Missile is just too good and Skrull just feels so satisfying to play as.

Random question: Does Dark Phoenix activate during assist if she is killed as an assist character but you have the 5 bars? It probably doesn't but it would be cool if she did. It's sort of good that she doesn't have all that great assists or she would probably die to a simple jab if she got called in.

And it didn't have online play either.

True, but damned if hitting Ken's cr.short, cr.short xx Shoryu Reppa didn't feel good as fuck.

The thing with 1 frame links though is that you don't have to do them to win and even if someone isn't great with their execution they could just pick a character with great normal moves and still reach a very high level.

Ya. I did balrogs kara cancel on a friend, and I was pretty surprised it came out because I can't do it consistently. He was pretty mad.

lol no. SSFIV is more like CVS2 when it comes to links. Also, plinking is fucking stupid.

Yeah, a week later, and while Im enjoying team 3D - Deadpool, Dante, Dormammu, Im not sure if I want to mix it up or stick with it. Thinking about putting Dante at point and closing, if it comes to it, with Deadpool who is my strongest character. Dormammu to change the pace.

If I can get to a point of running two teams efficiently, my B team will definitely be Wolverine, Super Skrull, and Taskmaster.

Shout out to ICallitFutile, good games earlier. I know you think that I quit cause I tied up the series, but really I had to come back to work! You had me locked down with Dorm's black holes!

Anyway, game is so awesome. Even with some lag, and even when I lose I have fun. I think you just have to realize you will never be the best. Once you realize that you can play how you wanna play rather then getting all raged out.

LOL, I was mashing so hard just to eek out a win against you. Still was fun and looked cool, imo.

I do accurate button mashing. I mash them a bit, but I still get the combos out in the end.

I'm an Ammy player and I'm totally amazed by this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=uzn2qHK_jWg

Once he launches in the air with S and starts the floor bouncing he's doing:

down forward + H xx qcf S xx into down + S?

It's like he's doing an exchange but Ammy isn't being swapped out.

Any ideas?

edit: from the looks of it he's doing down forward + H xx into down + S

that's fucking cool!

He does it again at the end of this video too

Fuck I can't wait to try these out at home tonight!!

Played 20 matches against some random last night. He wasn't good... so I beat him all 20 times.. but he stuck around which was really surprising.

Also why is D.A, D.B, C, S difficult with ironman online? I swear, simple string yet online I can fuck it up so much.

Also kara-ing with lag is a pain in the ass... really hurts my shehulk game when I don't cancel the move in time.

SF2's link combos were accidental. SF4 had them programmed them in intentionally.

I've now resorted to using random select to pick my team.

*sigh*
You will probably thank yourself later for it. Though you should have a decent grasp of the basics before you pull this online.

I highly recommend people play Random in MVC3 against friends and casual matches. It's the funnest shit ever.

I'll probably attempt ranked and do terribly after I get the guide from Amazon. Should be entertaining! Was using Viper/Morrigan/Dante, but my friend tore me up a lot with his team of Hulk/Haggar/Dante. Blarg.

D:

so far I'm pretty happy with X-23 and Ammy but I'm struggling to find a third.

Just got the game a few days ago, really liking it - reminds me a lot of TvC for Wii, love it.

I recently switched to control scheme B and it feels like learning a whole new game >_< may go back to my old scheme but I feel like "B" is how it should be played.

Same. Unfortunately, I realized this JUST as I started getting used to the OG controls. Took me long enough to get used to them and I'm not starting over again.

The only character I know how to play right now is Trish, and that's very loosely.

Dommammu isn't coming along so well right now, and Iron Man is hard to connect with. Nobody lets me do reverse box dash sliding 2B, and I don't know how to do anything else with him.

I also use Wesker, Hulk and Phoenix, but I don't really know where I'm going with them.

Trish though, goddamn I love Trish. She can do anything she wants, Zoning, rushdown, fullscreen punishes, homing chip damage, traps, crossup resets. She's so cool. I have the most fun using her.

Same. I absolutely love Trish. My current team is Viewtiful Joe, Wesker, Trish in that order. I probably win most of my fights thanks to Wesker or Joe but I definitely enjoy myself more with Trish. Yesterday I realized I could have not one but two of her hypers out on screen at once. I'm looking forward to actually learning how to play her proper.

You should at least give him some pointers, he deserves at least that much for his perseverance.

I know such person in real life, though he doesn't play MVC3 others games that we play and I am much better at him, he would keep playing me until his eyes stopped working (mine too). He just wouldn't stop unless he sneaked in a win, which usually happened when I got so tired of playing that I let him have it. I now give him advice and feedback on his matches. He takes the advice in stride and plays less matches in a row but with more quality and sense behind them.

Give the guy some direction, he would be happy someone did.

Not to mention, that some of us just play for "fun" and not to actually win or heck even "learn".

I'm like that too, I could be losing every match I play, but if the other person stays, the connection quality is good I continue on. I have so much fun playing with Tron Bonne, seeing the Servbots, playing with Chris and moving Arthur around (love his animation) I don't care if I'm actually winning or losing.

I do hate when others let me win, thinking I'm losing just because I'm that bad and they think I feel bad for losing. I do win, sometimes; but I usually buy fighting games because I like just seeing the fights, watching the character and all the action.

ive always found dormammu pretty difficult to play in hectic matches. he seems great when everything is in his favor but once people get in your grill its pretty bad.

Iron Man is way better than I first thought. tri jumping with H is so good. the attack barely comes out and it sitll hits. i just wish he did just a little more damage is all.

Don't knock it. Random was the only way I found a team I liked in TvC.
I did the same thing in SSF4 and just ended up picking Ryu. I mean, really? All that time trying out characters just to end up with Ryu?

Smh.
