Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds |OT| - Ya down with OTG? Yeah, you know me!

When I play random player matches in a fighting game and find someone who beats me easy I love sticking around and fightin em even if I keep losing cause it's something good to practice/fight against. I learn way more trying to get in and defend against a good player while still losing than beating someone up over and over. If a good player sticks around to keep killing me I usually thank em for it.

Played 20 matches against some random last night. He wasn't good... so I beat him all 20 times.. but he stuck around which was really surprising.
Usually If I can get 4 or 5 wins in a row in a player match, I quit. Honestly I'd much rather have a close, exciting match and lose than constantly dominate someone else.

Also, I'm experimenting more with keep-away characters now. It's satisfying as hell when a Dante player doesn't know what to do against Chris' rain of Uzi/Magnum shots and grenades.

That looks like that would be easily raped by Arthur/Modok/Domm zoning though.

Yes, he was trying to show it as an option for people attempting to rush her down, not for fighting zoners.

Oh I suppose that'd be fine then, but I play Ammy as a pure rushdown so that'd be weird to try that. I guess having different playstyles wouldn't hurt though. :P

ive always found dormammu pretty difficult to play in hectic matches. he seems great when everything is in his favor but once people get in your grill its pretty bad.

Iron Man is way better than I first thought. tri jumping with H is so good. the attack barely comes out and it sitll hits. i just wish he did just a little more damage is all.

Any combo tips for Mr Stark? I'm having problems getting anything useful out of him, I can't even get Wesker to connect his OTG assist to follow up with Iron Man's Beam Hyper unless it's in the corner. Also the only launcher I seem to be able to hit consistently is cr.l, cr.m, s.

air dash downforward H, c.l,c.m,s.h, launch, mmh, fly, mhs, land smart bomb into whatever is what ive been doing as far as combos.

sounds dumb but I just call asists and tri jump in with H cause it hits a lot. like if you do c. hard, the missile, you can tri jump in with hard and they'll be at the right distance where it will hit. its a super quick overhead so just abuse it.

about the freeze problem:
-only happens in arcade mode from stage 2-6
-always happens in the first 10 seconds of the match
-doesnt matter how much is going on at the screen
-only happens once per match
-resets all your inputs and makes you a sitting duck
-happens when installed, played from disc, online or offline

strange nobody else noticed that.
I think it's a network issue. It doesn't seem to happen if you're disconnected from Live. I've never seen it happen during an online match either. MvC3 doesn't let you do background downloading in any mode, which wasn't the case with SSF4. It's probably related to the license card.

I've never had it reset my inputs and it doesn't seem to occur at any set point. It's a very minor issue in my experience, though it did worry me until I saw other people mentioning it.

Are you guys really not using Fight Request?

I've learned to stop questioning the hate. I play She-Hulk/Magneto/Tron and I got a voice hatemail today from a guy calling me a spammer. What? I didn't even use Magneto, so no Dis Reptar.

I'm really enjoying the combination of She-Hulk and Tron. Their supers and assists seem to mesh together well. She-Hulks OTG sets up some stuff for Tron and Tron's fire assist is just awesome. Tron's lunchtime super into She-Hulks airgrab super makes the airgrab miss but lands She-Hulk directly infront of the opponent to continue beating on em. Oh and I noticed after Tron does a normal throw you can hit with She-Hulks OTG for a little extra damage.

Just need to decide on the third member of the team. Both characters are pretty big and slow so I'm thinking I need someone faster who can deal with keepaway characters well.
Huh! I've been using She-Hulk/Tron/Magneto too. I thought I was all alone. I dunno if it's a good team but they're all pretty fun.

Haha, man. Dude online thought he was gonna tear me up with Dark Phoenix. He goes for an aerial kick to presumably start a combo...

Aaaaaand beaten. Love it.

Hate that Spidey swing is a DP motion. yuck. They should have made web throw a DP motion and the swing a QCB. Sucks that Spidey's move is so much easier for Taskmaster than Spidey himself.

That can hit from anywhere on-screen right? Or only in the air? Or what?

Anywhere. It was mainly just awesome because Dark Phoenix was basically at full life when it hit. It's pretty much a one-hit KO against her.

As much as I want to main Phoenix, stuff like this would honestly make me go "fucking awesome" before anything else. The coolest DP counter I've seen so far was someone X-Factoring with Akuma as she did her special to block without chip damaga then as she started rushing towards him -- RAGING DEMON'D. :lol

I find that I am much better at this game than MvC2 because many of the command normals are just forward and H usually or some variation of it. So I can pull off some great damaging combos.

Like I've completed around 250 missions, usually mission 10 combos are easy.

Now the ones with the P1/P2 are hard just cuz the timings.

I guess I'll watch the videos.

Oh yeah his high/low game is amazing. Just doing a downward tridash then instant dash forward into a sliding 2A is a super quick low that combos into launcher from about 3/4th of a zoomed in screen. It's just that his specials are pretty slow and he doesn't really have huge combo potential.

I wish Trish could OTG with hopscotch. She'd be so amazing.

alright this is my first post, and i'm a completely awful at marvel 3, but does anybody have suggestions for dealing with Chris' keep away game?

So far I use Arthur since he's really short and can't get hit by the magnum.....but that thing is just so strong that I don't have a good answer sometimes. I'm not really good enough to just 'get in' on a guy, though I guess a rushdown character while throwing out projectile assists to shield me is a good choice?

In terms of "omnipotent being fucks you over" hypers, it's up there. My personal favorite from this series however is Doom's Lvl. 3. He's just bored as fuck watching you fry and when he's tired of it, it's like he says "meh" like he's bored with torturing you and blows the shit up on you. :lol

I wish there was a guide or a mode to teach you how to stop the insanity on the screen. Triangle jumps, crossover assists, move spams.

Also, Ryu is my point. But I tried to play mission mode, and I have issues with the forward H after crouching H. I always seem to get a hadoken.

I'm using the Saturn pad (and previously the TE).

This game is amazing! I'm around 50% ratio with ranked wins and am enjoying the hell out of training mode. I'm sure everyone realizes this but no joke-- online is a mess. Even Fight Request has been spotty for me, though it seems to get more matches in Arcade mode than training mode. I use X-23/Dante/Wolverine since yesterday. X-23 is rushdown city and with Wolverine there too, I'm doing much better than before.

I used to use X-23/Dante/Phoenix. I was cocky before this game came out, but it only took a few nasty 1-combo beatdowns on my Phoenix to make me second guess whether I want her on my team. The whole "get dark phoenix" plan gets taken out by good players pretty quickly.

Seems like the best way to use Phoenix is to get level 5 with your other characters, then put her in and do as much damage as you can before getting killed and turned into Dark Phoenix.
Then switch her back out as an anchor-- then spam her TK Shot assist while finishing with your other two characters.

Go to neutral, not down-forward.

How do you do the different hypers? I always seem to do just the one.

Is this a really obvious question?

Read the command list. I think every char has 3+ hypers.

Try Super jumping. Or a character with a beam projectile like Magneto or Iron Man to stuff most Chris's shenanigans. Or a character with a teleport. But you should be okay with just super jumping while having an assist cover you.

I like SSkrull's one: "DEATH PENALTY" and he beats the shit out of you.

Make sure you are deliberate and press forward, do it slowly, cuz if you are fast then you'll hadoken and cut your combo short.

Same with doom, just take your time. You can be quick with L,M,H standing or crouching. But because his H attack is slow you can be pretty late cancelling into the forward + H.

The crouching + H xx forward + H needs to be a bit quicker though.

man bionic lancer not hitting fullscreen is really messing me up, keep misjudging the distance and he winds up standing right in front of the enemy, ready for a fat punish

No sadly, it was busted out at some casual matches I was watching people play at my campus. I've never seen a room full of people explode into "OHHHHHH SHEEEEEIT" so suddenly in my life. :lol

No, you have a valid point. But if you think getting hate mail over XBL for being "cheap" is bad, imagine dealing with that kind of thing at an arcade with IRL scrubs. You're probably right, but it's pretty hard for me to blame him for the tone he uses all things considered.

Barebone modes, poor online, no spectator modes for when we couldn't meet at someone's house (this has hurt PSN chat tpo =/) and X Factor (wayyyyyy too strong as it stands right now ) were all reasons I was given.

I honestly can't help but agree with most points.

They're moving on other games. Its a stacked quarter after all. Meanwhile, I'm back having to rely on online.

Sounds like they weren't going to play for very long either way. You will see them tonight at the Killzone launch.

You should at least give him some pointers, he deserves at least that much for his perseverance.

I know such person in real life, though he doesn't play MVC3 others games that we play and I am much better at him, he would keep playing me until his eyes stopped working (mine too). He just wouldn't stop unless he sneaked in a win, which usually happened when I got so tired of playing that I let him have it. I now give him advice and feedback on his matches. He takes the advice in stride and plays less matches in a row but with more quality and sense behind them.

Give the guy some direction, he would be happy someone did.

If I had pointers I'd give them to myself, I'm pretty damn scrubby.

(1) There's no shortcuts for SRK motion.
(2) At least in mission mode the game crucifies you for mashing. You hit H twice instead of once, it drops the combo progress.

I was able to complete T.Hawk's trials in SSF4 though some of the ones that were driving me nuts I was able to mash through.

I was having trouble with the timing on one of Wesker's missions, where you qcf.M > H > H > S in the middle of a combo and I tapped H more than once for the second H input looking for the timing window. Until I got it down so I only was hitting H ONCE for the second input, the combo did NOT count no matter how much I could mash it out.

So in some instances, yes you can mash, but you can't mash your way through mission mode and there are no SRK shortcuts. :)

There's nothing as dumb as the SSFIV inputs, but I still get DP when I don't want it, and I even have inputs turned on to make sure it isn't me. I was doing x-23's trials last night, and it was a pretty standard combo into her QCF hyper, I did that and got the one triggered by DP, even though this was the input I had. The downforward before I did the qcf is why, but it's still dumb because I never even had forward, and I did the entire input before hitting the buttons.

I think I got me a solid team now. Chun/Dorm/Morg - Chun on point. Morg keeps my meters refilling while Chun keeps the pressure on. Dorm is great for range if needed though his void assist is pretty solid as well. Now on to make a second team. :D
