You gotta get salty to get better. I agree with that. My salt levels have been low i need to go find some people to body me. Preferably not online.

In casual play, it's not a deal breaker. It might be useful to take note of certain hyper combos or moves that might give you an advantage over other certain movies, but that's about it for non-tourney players.

"How important is it really to learn how to properly analyze the frame data in the official guide? It's a little too much for my simple mind."

Not really all that important. Frame data is a great tool for figuring things out (what's punishable, what can punish what, what can potentially combo, etc.) but a lot of it can be figured out on your own if you experiment enough.

It's great to have, but not understanding frame data won't necessarily inhibit you as a player.

I don't know how to quote on this forum...

But basically it's like this right Alucrid? If your startup is 5 frames, and it's active for 3. It will always beat out someone who has a startup of 6 frames? Except for with advantage on hit or guarded?

Edit: Oh wait I'm dumb.

Depends. Memorizing exact values is more trouble than it's worth most of the time, but there's a page right before the character sections that explain what it all means and how it can be useful.

For example, an advantage/disadvantage of 1 or 2 on block doesn't mean much since most light attacks take at least 3 frames to start. Any utility hyper that has 0 frames after the activation cutscene (e.g. Zero's is 10+0, which means 10 frames before the cutscene and none after) are completely safe to DHC into because you can block (or do whatever) immediately upon entry. Just check the sections for the characters you're playing and see if you can deduce some useful info like that.

IMO, the most important info is what frames are invulnerable for various moves. For example, pretty much the only reason I'd use Ryu's Shinku Tatsumaki over Shinku Hadouken from point blank is because its startup is completely invulnerable; makes for a good bait and punish (and a safe DHC out).

I never got why Runaway fans would vote for Nico over Karolina or Molly, given that one of the most important facets of her abilities makes her a horrible choice for a fighter.

Would be the best on that list. His combos would be insane.

There should be a section in the guide explaining it. But theoretically, yes, a move with a start up of 5 should be one with a start up of 6 assuming they were input at the same time.

Finally got in on some online play. Ranked is shit. 6 out of 7 times you either fail to connect to lobby or you lose connection....the latter putting you out all the way to main menu.

Not only that but ranked is laggy and it's the only way to change your title. Sucks. I'd played it some on launch but thought it was due to traffic or some shit. I was wrong. Ranked just blows. It does indeed need fixed.

Lobby's are sweet though save for one thing. When you aint up you can't watch the fight. So you sit bored talking to dudes. Sometimes thats cool but most times it's quiet or dumb. Let us watch. Fix this.

Overall, I see potential in the online but it's not clean and should be prioritized over all else in the digital development teams list of "to do's."

That said I'm finding new teams I like. I did quite well with X-23/Hulk/Ryu
Ryu shocked me. At first he seemed turd, but he can land more basic strikes in his attack combos than my boy Akuma which gave him more flexibility on setups. His jumping multiple L seems to catch folks off guard who are used to characters only being able to strike once on a jump in. They block the first but not the next 2 he can hit before landing. Blows their block counter timing all to hell.

Im having a blast right now. I'm not using my main team of Spencer/Haggar/Sentinel now though. It just felt too slow and couldn't handle every play style. Spencer/Akuma/Wolverine did slick though. May keep it.

Also, claiming josh wong is gonna body people at winterbrawl.

It's kind of small, but I just noticed something interesting.

Go to the gallery and listen to Dormammu's 78th voice clip. Notice who he's referring to (it's a victory quote).

Man, I don't know if it's my internet connection or if the online matchmaking is that crappy, but I just had a horrible experience with this. I've been playing SSFIV for a while online and haven't had any trouble with that. Got MvC3 today (finally) and was messing around in it for a while, trying to get a feel for what characters I like. Started with Deadpool/Zero/Wesker because those are my three favorite characters, but I realized I don't like Deadpool or Wesker's playstyle so ended up settling on an Iron Man/Dr. Doom/Zero combination for my first few online rounds.

Took me ten minutes to connect to a match, the match itself was laggy as crap, and I couldn't pull off any of the combos I wanted to because the input was lagging. The next two matches lagged the same. Should have won at least one of the three matches but bleh. It put me in a foul mood so I'm going to take a break and watch some TV, then come back and see if the connection turns out better.

Did you use fight request and same region?

Also: This MvC guide is huge, I'll be reading this thing for weeks, so awesome. Only on page 20. >_>

It really is awesome. It helped me finally decide on a third member for my team, and it seems so enlightening.

I ran into a really solid Captain America last night. He got me stuck in a pretty nice loop bouncing me with his -> H and following up with shield slash before finally launching me into an air combo.

Thinking of putting him on my second team along with dante and maybe doom.

So I'm thinking this is the fighting game I finally sit down and master. I played a lot of them casually, but never really sat down and really learned. No game seems more rewarding or challenging than a fighting game... the learning curve is ridiculous. First a few questions.

1. hows the online in terms of lag?

2. how active is the community? How long do they usually last?

3. finally where should I start? Is the guide worth getting? Any online guides?

Thanks a lot!

While I doubt they would enforce the one-time-only rule of Nico's spellcasting in a fighter, I do agree that Molly or Karolina would be way better choices. Punching out Akuma with Molly would be pretty boss.

In all serious round 2 of the vote looks pretty damned solid. Lots of nice things to vote for in it. I'm sad Dr. Wily only hit rank 30 but those are the breaks. I still got plenty left to push for on these lists when the Round 2 polls start up. I'd like to ask that Teknopathetic lock the two different voting poll discussions here for me since I made the threads when they first opened, and then a new one for the reopened thread that replaced the firsts voting.

As soon as Zonic on Capcom Unity starts the Round 2 vote I'll set up a new thread to link it to the boards here.

Hopefully they say to vote top 5 each again if so my new teams will likely be

Marvel

  • *Gambit
    *Ghost Rider
    *Nightcrawler
    *Iron Fist
    * Green Goblin
Capcom

  • *Strider
    *Phoenix Wright
    *Gene (Godhand!)
    *Sigma
    *Captain Commando

Though I may swap two on the Capcom side for Megaman X and Classic Megaman. What can I say...I'm a fan. No Dr.Wily=no massive cameo of Megaman summons so I'll likely hit these up somehow.

Though the prospects of either Daredevil or Silver Surfer are very tempting. So much potential from either of them, but I want's my Iron Fist and Ghost Rider.

Ms. Marvel should be higher... :(

And if Frank ever does become DLC, I really hope that weirdness from TvC with his crouching strong gets fixed.

Hey you got the same avatar as Zonic! Sup.

That thing is everywhere since the flipflop of Justin Wong's reaction via tweeterfacespacebook

You'll be happy to know that since in ROUND 2 everyone gets to vote again that Ms Marvel (or anyone else) may indeed move up. A lot of cast was voted for that didn't make it to round 2 which means that when it hits alllllllll those people now have to find characters out of the TOP 20 eligible to vote for to replace who they voted for that didn't make it.

Keep hope alive.

Get over Gambit, guys. The 90s are over.

You say that about Gambit but don't say that about CARNAGE? What the...

I finally got the 5 win streak trophy tonight. It has been my white whale since the game came out, just because it's usually easier to pull of those sorts of things when a game first releases. Things went far south starting launch day + 1, and I dug myself a pretty big hole.

Speed of button press seemed to help me get an advantage on others. I feel a little mashy/spammy when I'm playing my game, but I'm also creating long term plans and managing the fight. I don't know if that is a normal thing with true mashers. All I know it's not planned out combos and launchers, which screwed me over when I tried to focus on it too much. The biggest thing I've learned to give me an advantage is effective character movement. Being able to avoid spam and get in close...or get the hell away...can ruin someone else's strategy.

Anyways. Some of my noob thoughts. I'm sure none of this will lead to high level play, but it is making the game fun again. Chun, Chris, Iron Man is the team, btw. Chris seems useless at times. I control him the worst, and he seems to be the most useless against small fast characters. Every once in a while, you will take all of Zero's life away with a few shots from the big ole revolver. He's pretty strong, and I guess its good to have a guy you feel OK losing if the tide is momentarily turning against you. Everything seems low priority, though.

Rogue is practically the same thing. They should just pool those votes and introduce one or the other as an alt costume.
For Ms. Marvel, they could easily take Rogue's old moveset, slap on a beam attack and an energy absorption attack and call it a day.

An alt costume would be pretty rad, though. I'll take whatever I can get.

What's a good way to get in with C.Viper? Triangle jump with L or H with an assist providing cover? That's my biggest problem with C.Viper, her reach seems so short. :(

Have capcom mention anything about avatars or premium themes hitting xbl or psn lately for this game?

I kinda thought some stuff would be out already.

Dr. Strange as well. Dormmamu needs a compliment dammit.

On one hand, I'm kinda meh about this since some franchises will continue to fade further into obscurity (Why no Power Stone? Wang Tang would have been so clutch. Also Ryu (BoF) being dead last to eligibility really makes me think he's not pulling through next round). On the other hand though, I'm actually happy to see that in both top 20 slots, a ton of characters that'd offer something fun as hell got to the top, most impressively, Gene, Vergil, Sigma, Bass.EXE, & Jon Talbain on Capcom's side and Ms. Marvel, Dr. Strange, Green Goblin & Juggernaut (BITCH). I'm also happy as hell to see the Strider support group out in full force and Mega Man X being the most requested Mega Man. He would offer so much and could be such an amazing all rounder with great mobility, tools and rushdown versus what folks usually expect from a Mega Man in these games.
