So I'm thinking this is the fighting game I finally sit down and master. I played a lot of them casually, but never really sat down and really learned. No game seems more rewarding or challenging than a fighting game... the learning curve is ridiculous. First a few questions.

1. hows the online in terms of lag?

2. how active is the community? How long do they usually last?

3. finally where should I start? Is the guide worth getting? Any online guides?

Thanks a lot!
1. Its decent. Some lag at times.

2. It is very active in the PS3 side. And it should last for years.

3. www.shoryuken.com is a great place to start besides the actual game in practice/mission mode. And from what I hear the guide is great.

Enjoy.

I've been spending lots more time in Training I believe this game is going to become extremely fast and technically hard to play at high-levels - it's technical elements just don't come from the combo system as much as it does movement options.

For Ms. Marvel, they could easily take Rogue's old moveset, slap on a beam attack and an energy absorption attack and call it a day.

An alt costume would be pretty rad, though. I'll take whatever I can get.

Rogue can get her own beams though. She's got the most potential out of any character with Ms.Marvel's abilities and absorption abilities. Give Rogue a Ms. Marvel outfit as an alt, it's pretty fitting.

Why, when all recent versions across comics, TV and movies dont have the Ms. Marvel powers? Might as well make it Ms. Marvel.

Man I would've killed for Nova, killed.

1.Venom - 2013 Boo this man
2.Gambit- 1681 Cool
3.Cyclops- 1097 Fuck this shit
4.Ghost Rider - 1086 Fuck this shit
5.Carnage -976 Boo this man
6.Psylocke - 962 Cool

Capcom
1.*Mega man - 3573 (Mostly MegaMan X, followed by classic/regular/ then exe) Cool
2.Strider 2094 Cool
3.Phoenix Wright - 1579 Meh.
4.Frank West - 1311 Boo this man
5.Gene - 1257 Who?
6.Vergil - 919Okay.

No Date Masamune/Sengoku Basara being repped also saddens me. :[

Magneto is evil, Phoenix is dead, Storm still leads the X-Men, Dante is currently a mopey Justin Beiber with black hair, etc. . . No one cares about that shit.

Have capcom mention anything about avatars or premium themes hitting xbl or psn lately for this game?

I kinda thought some stuff would be out already.

Maybe not for a while. MvC2's gamerpics didn't even hit till several months after the game was released.

Man, I don't know if it's my internet connection or if the online matchmaking is that crappy, but I just had a horrible experience with this. I've been playing SSFIV for a while online and haven't had any trouble with that. Got MvC3 today (finally) and was messing around in it for a while, trying to get a feel for what characters I like. Started with Deadpool/Zero/Wesker because those are my three favorite characters, but I realized I don't like Deadpool or Wesker's playstyle so ended up settling on an Iron Man/Dr. Doom/Zero combination for my first few online rounds.

Took me ten minutes to connect to a match, the match itself was laggy as crap, and I couldn't pull off any of the combos I wanted to because the input was lagging. The next two matches lagged the same. Should have won at least one of the three matches but bleh. It put me in a foul mood so I'm going to take a break and watch some TV, then come back and see if the connection turns out better.

Every single match I have played online has some sort of input lag in them. All of them, always. Even with same region and with fight request. The online was NEVER this bad for me in SSF 4. I've just accepted the fact that I will never be able to do anything really fancy online and will just have to keep it simple. Due to the lag I get absolutely worked with projectile spam though, which blows.

I'm not just talking comics. All three movies and the two latest cartoons also back it up.

It'd be interesting if they did get Ms. Marvel because her current voice is Jennifer Hale who's already doing Phoenix (also her "latest" voice).

Just felt like throwing it out there. Aside from both Carnage AND Venom being on the top 5 Marvel Votes, I'm pretty cool with the lists so far.

Right now I'm trying to consider whose powersets and potential movesets would be interesting to add to this game for either variety or solid compliments to other cast.

My thoughts are as follows.

1: Iron Fist

-Martial artist that uses visually impressive Kung Fu= fun to watch and potentially fast combos
-Can heal himself which too few characters can do
-Can "make his fist unto a thing of iron" in other words become insanely strong (one punch destroyed an oncoming bullet train once)
-can utilize a variety of mystical arts in his fighting powers including slight illusion and hypnotism

2: Phoenix Wright
-He doesn't fight which means his fighting moveset is open to any ideas imaginable. This means that anything could happen. Such freedom allows the developers to really cut loose and use a lot of creative freedom to try new stuff. After what they've shown so far I think this is a solid character to choose because he would likely have a moveset that patched problems certain characters create in this game.
Objection=cancels anyone? No more super armor, slow or crazy shit is an actual potentiality he could be used to create. The sky is the limit in choosing him.

3.Ghost Rider

-Fire= lots of stun potential
-The bike as a summon would help fill the gaps in this game missing from Jills old summon moveset. A firey bike summon that dashes would be nice, and yet not cheesy.
-The chain morphs into anything. That means not only does he have range to act as a foil to cast like Amaterasu and Skrull, but the chain also equals a balancing projectile based tactic that could use traps.
-Insanely strong and durable. The guy fist fought Thor and won.
-Penance Stare is crazy. I've seen this move do everything from agonize people with the compounded pain they've dealt to anyone in their life all at once, to melt them. It does literally any damn thing you could imagine and this is the kind of crazy freedom that I trust the developers to take in incredible new directions. Cool look and cool options everywhere on him.

4. Silver Surfer or Dr Strange
-Flight=awesome
-Projectiles that change reality
-potentially limitless power= once again DEVELOPER CREATIVE FREEDOM. So love this. They should probably be higher on the list for this reason alone. Both of their characters are based on giving writers the freedom to do whatever they want. I just think the previous characters are better choices for the visual appeal of their easier to balance movesets. It'll be hard to make Dr. Strange look cool and Surfer will be hard to come up with a lot of poses for since he generally doesn't show a lot of visually loud movements. Could be fun to have Surfer just loom over us though barely giving thought to all the damage he does. WHo knows?

5. Green Goblin
-Flight and glider summons = awesome. He could actually summon the glider as a platform to one side of the screen as a trap that he could command to either shoot or drop bombs for pinball combos. If he jumps on it he should get flight. Lots of potential to this weapon changing the flow of matches.
-Healing factor means he should be another healthy character and we neeeeed those badly
-He's strong AND quick. Outside of a few in the cast this is rare and none have the crossover potentials of Goblin.

The rest of the Top 20 choices are pretty good and I see SERIOUS potential for characters like Ms Marvel for rushdown+powerdrain tactics, but IMO these 6 are probably the most interesting choices. I like the potential that characters like Nightcrawler, and Daredevil pose but I just see their movesets as potentially redundant to wesker or Spiderman or other cast. Okay, Sigma is intriguing and could do alot, but I digress.

Lots of potential out of the whole list, but I think the most potential is in those 6 votables.

Realistically, when do you think Capcom would release a DLC with new characters? Not including the upcoming Jill and Shuma DLC.

Hopefully after working on an online patch and releasing it. I want these connect failures and match search waits fixed, and I'm sick of having nothing to do in lobbies as I wait my turn.

Best bet is once every 3 months or more depending on modes they tack on alongside costume packs and shadowmode packs.

We will get another disc based game. If they can make money off of new characters expect a new disc.

I believe capcom unity is trolling the community with this poll. Hope they prove me wrong but its just fan service more than anything. People like to discuss characters so they are trying to drive account numbers up exploiting this

It says right in the first post that it is not official, and there are no guarantees.

I'm not so sure.

They got a lot of complaints about doing SSFIV, and sales were less.

They justified it by saying "the game wasn't made to do DLC!"

But obviously MvC3 is capable of getting new characters as DLC and people know it. There would be a big backlash.

I kinda hope they do do one, only so the complaints and lesser sales convince them to stop updated disc releases and switch fully to DLC.

People seem to think this is going to have a lot/some pull on character choices. I am leaning towards it having little to no pull at all.

Back what up? Looking for character consistency between those medias and trying to put that in a vs game is not happening, and Capcom's current roster is a testament to them not really giving a damn.

Yeah but Marvel is to a degree. Phoenix is only there cause they are reintroducing her. Magneto is always blurring the line. Of course Capcom doesnt care. And Rogue is no Cap.

Rogue is probably more well known now without her MM powers. So if that moveset comes back, itll be with the person that still has those powers outside of the power steal.

I hope they actually do only DLC characters. I own the special edition for both consoles so I would rather not have to rebuy for more characters. Currently I am very skeptical.

Doubtful. The creators have been listening closely to the fans of this series for awhile. "where yo curleh mustache at?" ring a bell?

The creators are very aware of the public's voice on this game and Capcom likes to poll the fans for ideas. Even if they don't use the lists exclusively it's likely that at the least the top vote ins will influence the playstyles of any pre-planned cast they may have. Its also entirely likely it can impact their decisions about whether or not to include some cast from MVC2 like Strider or some kind of Mega Man. At most we may even get a character or two in thats entirely new.

I know we're all the kids who're jaded and not used to getting what they wanted from developers for X-mas, but the market is growing up and polling for DLC on a game is becoming very sound for profits. I'd be shocked if this wasn't noticed in some manner from a business standpoint.

Who would you vote for?

Went ahead and renewed my Gold sub against my better judgment. Sent a friend request to GAF MvC3.

I'll be screwing around on ranked/player for a while. Invite me if you want some games. The lag is horrible for me so far but I want to give it a fair shake.

They can justify MVC2/XSF/90s Rogue for any of the mundane reasons you listed. It's still her most popular and iconic form as far as I know, among both Capcom fighter fans and Marvel fans.

I do have to admit, I'm pleasantly surprised at the amount of love Gene's been getting.

Where were all of these people when GodHand first released? =/

My hand hurts....

I love this game...

Tell me about it. I've been working on the training mode and my right hand feels like it's about to fall off from doing the button combinations for the combos. But I'm completing far more of the more complicated missions than I have completed the complicated trials in SSFIV. Although a lot of the time I end up going off on random tangents instead of completing the mission and coming up with my own combos.

Random thing: Back when I was young and playing the original Street Figher II on my friend's SNES, I could not ever do an SRK move for anybody. Ever. But I got SSFIV, and for some reason the "Z" movement indicator just helped me get it and I could do them. But I still couldn't pull them off perfectly. Now with MvC3, it went back to the original way of describing the SRK move, and for some reason it just clicked with me. After practicing in training and managing to pull off 20-30 in a row without any mistake, I am a gleeful, joyous little child.

Now if only I could be any good at actually fighting people.

Just to mitigate the over representation of Xmen I'd be perfectly content with Ms. Marvel and Rogue alt.

Probably in HS with no job prospects and no money.

According to the poll, exactly 1257 people bought God Hand. Sounds about right.

See, I'm the opposite of everyone else it seems. I mained her in SSF4 and I hardly like her in this game.

Must be because she's not a technically challenging so it's easier to do cool looking stuff wit her.

On the Gobby front they could even repurpose the moveset of the Tatsunoko vs Capcom guy with the robo dog(whose name escapes me) for the glider attacks.

I never got the Z motion for a Shoryuken, the visual representation just confuses me. Am I doing it wrong by going forward, then neutral, then QCF to do it? D:

I wish I never played her in SSF 4 just because of the damn motions in this game for her moves. I always mess up out of habit from playing as her in SF.

Don't bother going to neutral. Rolling back and forth from forward, down, to forward should work. (If you're on a stick, it's probably best to attempt to match the Z-motion as closely as possible though.)

The only required inputs are forward, down, down-forward, but it's slightly more lenient than that and will still recognize the motion if other directions are input between those.

I will have to try that later. I didn't know I could just drop the neutral part of the motion, never had problems with it so we'll see if it feels more comfy. It's probably faster. ;o

damn take a day off from marvel vs capcom 3 and suddenly players like salva can beat me. o_o :P i'll get back into shape salva and get my sweet sweet revenge.
