It's unplayable for me too. I'm just mashing jab until I can hit confirm into a basic magic series at this point lol. So much for practicing combos in training mode.Caj814 said:Fuck that, lol.
That was much worse than anything TvC gave me. You look use to playing in that type of lag but for me that's unplayable.
MooseKnuckles said:So I've been lurking this thread/watching some streams for the last couple of days, and I'm pretty interested in grabbing a copy and giving it a go. I just had a couple of questions
1. I've never played a fighting game before (well the last one was Tekken Tag when I was 11), is the learning curve gonna be too much for me? It seems pretty overwhelming since I'm starting from scratch.
2. I'll only be able to play on a 360 pad, is this game worth it without a stick?
Thanks a lot
Oh hey that's almost every match I had tonight. I also got disconnected 3 or 4 times. I hate this game right now.Sixfortyfive said:It's unplayable for me too. I'm just mashing jab until I can hit confirm into a basic magic series at this point lol. So much for practicing combos in training mode.

This actually happened in TvC.Papercuts said:With the way everything else in this game is set up, it seems more likely that capcom has everyone accidentally in ragequitter hell.

In retrospect, mvc 3 doesn't have bad net code either... its just the lack of replays, spectator mode and online features that hurt it.
Darkman M said:That went right over your head LOL
Its netcode isn't good either. Falls into slow-mode, lag on what seems to be perfect connection, inability to connect 95% of the time, "You have been disconnected from Xbox Live" messages, and more. Not to mention the horrible menuDarkoMaledictus said:In retrospect, mvc 3 doesn't have bad net code either... its just the lack of replays, spectator mode and online features that hurt it.

Any game will always hit that particular barrier. Even with the best netcode, you're still going to be stuck with some degree of lag which will increase the further away you are from the other person you're playing.DarkoMaledictus said:Yes because Shroryuken is the end to all truth... no but seriously ggpo and BB was the speed of light.
damn that's nice said:How do you guys usually decide the order of your team? Right now I wanna do Chris/Doom/Arthur in that order because of Arthur's level 3 X-factor, but I don't know if I should have Chris or Doom on point. Or how much of a difference that really makes.
Level 3 X-factor Arthur with the Golden Armor and his homing arrows is incredibly deadly. Spamming the arrows not only stops most characters in their tracks, but tacking it on the end of any of your other special moves like bottle toss or daggers does massive damage. Also his chip damage is absurd.mannerbot said:Why would you want Arthur as your anchor? For one, X-Factor is kind of a waste on him as he doesn't have the damage output of other chars, and if you wanted to play a strong zoning game you'd want him on point. In general though, determining team order comes down in large part to figuring out which characters can do damage without meter/can build meter efficiently and sticking them first, and then thinking about what makes sense for DHCs.
Captain America has some of the best quotes in the game. Possibly the best theme in the game too. Never thought I could be so patriotic...Seraphis Cain said:Had a guy online a bit ago who thought he'd just sit back and take out my last character (Captain America) by mashing out Sentinel beams. Thank goodness Hyper Charging Star stuffs that foolishness.![]()

mannerbot said:1. There's certainly a lot to learn for people new to fighting games, but unless you're planning on trying to play at a high/tournament level it shouldn't be overwhelming. http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Marvel_vs_Capcom_3 will help, as will the SRK forums and the official BradyGames guide (streams too of course).
2. Of course it is. If you've never played on a stick before then what would make you think it's some kind of fighting game prerequisite? Ultimately it's just another controller and it all comes down to preference.
MooseKnuckles said:Thanks a lot, and the only reason I ask about the controller is that I remember hearing the 360 d-pad is not great for fighters (and I don't personally have any point of reference). Think I'll order myself a copy now

I mash it and that seems to work. most people do down+s it seems. greedy fucks.Dreavus said:Man, Air exchange combos feel so broken sometimes. I feel dirty every time I sneak in an S + down exchange for one free meter (usually my first Exchange combo of the match, before people are paying attention). People usually wise up after that first bounce, but sometimes I'll even go for a second one in the same combo just to be cute (which sometimes works!). Putting such quick reactionary limits on countering exchanges is not ideal when you factor in a bit of lag... sometimes it makes them feel too powerful. Free meter is no joke and I'm surprised at how easily it's obtained through these air exchanges.
How exactly do you counter air exchanges anyway? I've gotten out of several so far but I want to know the specifics. I know it's S + same-direction-that-opponent-chose, but can you just mash it? Does it take and hold your first input if you're 360'ing on the stick + mashing, or does it counter as soon as you press the right direction + S?
Darkman M said:This game plays totally different then Street Fighter, being good at one wont make you decent at the other, you have to learn a whole new game.
akachan ningen said:I mash it and that seems to work. most people do down+s it seems. greedy fucks.
Sixfortyfive said:According to the strategy guide, you have 15 frames (1/4 of a second) to match the attacker's exchange input after the initial flash. The game only accepts the first input. Mashing doesn't help.
This also means that you shouldn't use left or right to exchange in the air against someone who's mashing, as they have a 50% chance of breaking a sideways input but only a 25% chance each of breaking up or down.
