Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds |OT| - Ya down with OTG? Yeah, you know me!

I kinda wish we could see some returners get totally revamped.

I mean, Capcom probably lobbied to keep returning characters and game aspects the same, to please series fans.

I'm curious as to how it would be if Marvel had more say.

Would character choices be similar? Would characters have the appearances they do? The movesets? The music? Would character call out attacks? Would the game play the same?

I just got back from work. I have a few hours till I have to go to sleep so I can go back to work tomorrow. Someone play me :(

My win % in Ranked is roughly 85%. Probably 75% of that comes from Hsien-Ko assist. Nobody knows what to do about that. I don't even have to use the combos I've practiced.

Fellow Hsien-Ko users are one of the few things that consistently gives me trouble, lol.

If all the stuff about Frank being cut is true, she was probably changed just so that her moveset doesn't overlap with Frank's.
I had trouble with a guy playing her last night at the point, had no idea how to deal with her.

Although, it would allow one to make a military special forces type team with Chris, Spencer, and New Venom.

I know Cap's a military character, but he doesn't have that same look like the others.

So maybe that one would be okay too.

Is there a different button layout for arcade sticks or should I just be using the default button layout with an arcade stick. Feels really awkward. I can't seem to find any info in the first post.

Try button layout B.

The default of the game is for controllers, B is for sticks, and Y is for sticks with a different arrangement.

That would actually be pretty cool. It would give Capcom an excuse to rework the character a bit, and they could later make old school Venom a DLC costume to troll everyone. :lol

Thanks. Just tried it out and the layout makes more sense now.

Who wants to bet that the inevitable add-on is called Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 or Marvel vs Capcom 3 Unlimited?

As long as it's not Marvel Mangaverse vs Capcom 3.

Okay, that's more like it. Got into a room with a few friends for 2 solid hours and everyone finally had a good time here. Got a 10 win streak myself, nobody got salty. They realize Arthur THROWS STUFF :D :D :D LOTS :D~

I kinda realized that Haggar's lariat assist is a good thing to have on tap for people who like to march up to your face pre-game positioning - just call the lariat in the moment the fight starts, and eager beaver rushdown guys tend to get a nasty surprise.

I actually wouldn't mind New Venom. He could combine military style attacks with the symbiote's tentacles. Also, they could give him a resurrection like Phoenix, where upon losing, he rages out and turns into traditional Venom.

Also, Black Panther, Emma Frost, and/or Green Goblin for DLC. Don't break my heart Capcom.

Trish is sick. Traps, dive kick, projectiles. Amazing.

Trish was definitely one of the biggest surprises for me. You get one character in the corner and they're pretty much stuck there.

She reminds me of a better version of Marrow.

Still holding out hope on NO "add-on". Only individual DLC pieces, then MvC4 next-gen, with returning content remade and the whole 9 yards.

Unless you mean a name for the "GotY Edition" with the DLC collected. which would be good, as I'l always found "GotY Edition" to be pretentious.

OK, played with my roomates, and i got nothing but mad love for Dante. Only character i'm anywhere close to being decent with other than Ryu and Akuma, but i know them from SF anyway.

Enjoying the game, haven't played a single online game yet though.

lol Fightingfish (dunno his gaf name) just crushed one of my co-workers. Talk about rage :P

No hard feelings here of course, i'm up for GAF matches anytime. Only way to get better.

EDIT: Oh and now I can officially testify Trish's sickness. With the right team...damn.

What's the difference? Add spec mode, 16 new characters and a balance patch and you're good to go.

The difference being the content being delivered over time as opposed to in a package, so instead of watching the announce trailer of Super whatever and waiting a year, you can watch a trailer for an upcoming character, then download them at the end of that month, then watch the one for the next character. Constant hype and a game that always feels fresh and new.

And balance patches should really start being more often and for smaller things. Why does it have to be a huge patch that changes things for every single character? Why can't you just do a small one that only adjusts say, Sent's damage, but leaves everything else?

I honestly am loving the shit out of mvc3, capcom just needs to release sf3 and arcs release accent core on psn and I'll be in bliss :D

p.s. SF4 sucks

Bit late to the party on this one but has Capcom commented on whether or not shadow mode is going to be paid dlc? The most up to date info I can find on it is ironically a NeoGaf thread.

So the game can evolve on its own. One of the best things about fighters is finding workarounds and counters for specific tactics.

I agree, but people always hate.

Me in one of the DLC poll thread said:
Concerning Street Fighter, they should have done it like TvC and had representatives from each sub-series.

SF: Ryu (Now that they are going to sell the appropriate costume)
SF2: Chun-Li (Will unfortunately always be in)
SFA: Charlie (I play this character type whenever possible and wish there was one in MvC3)
SF3: Gill (Alex already had his turn, so now it's time for the main villain instead of hero. Plus, he's really powerful, with making meteor showers and coming back to life, so he fits the tone. And would add another Capcom villain besides Wesker.)
SF4: C.Viper (People have said from the beginning that she was a MvC character in a SF game, and inspired by Captain Commando. I would have been okay with Juri too.)

Unfortunately they don't own the rights to EX/The Movie, so none of them.

I'd also throw Bison in there for series importance/adding another villain, and allowing you to have an all Street Fighter match with no mirrors.

This is all logically thought out and unbiased of course. If we wanted to get into personal fanboy stuff, I'd want Remy, Twelve, and Q.

Man...now I feel really bad. I always try to be a really nice guy when I play online. Sorry about jumping in on your coworkers, you just had the first name on the MvC list that I recognized so I just hopped into your lobby.

Before I do more lobbies though I really need to get the mic hooked up on my custom stick. Lobbies are not much fun when you can't join in the talking. Just gotta make it out to Radio Shack for some parts to add on the jack.

why would you lower sents damage over half the cast can do as much damage as him if not more and are less clunky and easy to hit
Random example.

A character that people consistently consider very strong and "Easy Mode" at certain levels of play, and some sort of nerf.

Capcom would handle the details.

I won't actually /hate/ on x-men and SF characters but honestly I find the game very refreshing because it's actually Marvel vs Capcom now and not X-Men vs Street Fighter 5.

I wouldn't object to more SF and X-Men characters being added, but on the condition that they're balanced out with other characters. I just don't think any one franchise under a company's banner should eat more than a certain proportion of the cast.

you want me to list over half the cast? Game balance isn't based around low level play

Also, I think someone mentioned that DLC characters are often frowned upon at tournaments, how will this affect Jill/Shuma and future DLC characters in competitive play?

A lot of AE changes seem based on things that are "annoying" more than really useful at high level.

Meh, I think if a character is good enough themselves, it shouldn't matter who else from that series is in.

I mean, they're always going to have the main people from certain series, so limiting it to a certain number of characters per series just hurts the chances for new blood :/ .

Of course, if you want to say "Three X-Men only!", and replace Wolverine with Gambit and replace Storm with Jubilee, I guess that would be okay.

But they aren't going to do that, so you're just limiting the roster to a bunch of boring stale main characters.

Nah its cool, they're still learning about the game so they felt helpless I guess (not sure how they were fighting since no spectator mode, but thats another topic lol). It was friendly rage more or less. Kinda wish you stayed, since some random spammy guy jumped in after you left.

Took 3 matches to beat em back, but I almost got a perfect on the 3rd match...so kinda proud of that.

If we're going to argue about who is "boring and stale", then it gets relative; by some standards, many of the characters some people think "feel missing" from MvC3 are boring and stale because they've been in everything almost every time - Zangief or Cyclops, Sakura or Gambit, etc, etc.

MvC3 already has a pretty damn fresh cast with picks that have never gotten a chance to rep in a true fighting game before, such as Haggar.

When I say franchises shouldn't be allowed to overwhelm the cast, I am speaking partly from the realistic perspective, not the idealized fantasy: it's not possible to make an infinite number of characters, costs resources. The thing about making sure a variety of franchises are repped, is those franchises tend to offer background detail and content that can bring more to the game. Sure, almost everyone in Street Fighter might be a good character on their own merits. But they're still all from Street Fighter, which has its own style and conventions. I'd rather see inspiration draw from as many sources as possible.

And when I say adding fan favorites should be balanced with other characters, I mean to say new characters; I wouldn't want to see most of the DLC be only returning characters. I'd prefer if it was 50/50. Some favorites, and some who have never been represented in a fighting game before, such as Breath of Fire Ryu.
