(Yeah yeah, I know it's a picture of the 360 version)

Second and third place will also get prizes.

70+ participants so far. It's already bigger then the Super Street Fighter IV LIVE tournament. That's Mahvel hype for ya.

Something I didn't realize until yesterday:

Normally when doing DHCs you can only do one hyper per team member, but when you XFC this limitation is reset, allowing you to DHC through characters a second time as meter allows.

I'm gonna keep being trash at this game until Shuma comes out. I don't even practice my combos... :-(

And I never use hypers... or pushblock...

I'm still in the middle of the whole new game/new stick confusion and I keep getting frustrated that I can't do simple things. I need to hack up my new hrap3 or something, the ls56 barely gets through and I can barely get one finger under the balltop.

Your post are so schizophrenic. One minute you're talking about how you're setting up advanced frametraps and constructing elaborate plans in training mode, and the next you can't do the most basic moves.

haha. Also, sorry about last night God's Beard. I was away from my PS3 when you sent that message.

Anybody know when winterbrawl streaming is starting?

So I put in about three hours or so just tooling about in Training mode with some random characters I was struck by how amazing this game looks in motion. It feels like Wipeout HD.

I'm having trouble with the magic series aerial combos with some characters. Iron Man's timing is really tricky and right now I'm really inconsistent with the transition from S Launch into the air combo, I get up in the air but the subsequent combo doesn't air combo or I just miss altogether.

Frustrating, but crazy fun.

Bah, I started playing this yesterday at casuals cause all the SSFIV machines were full. Ended up coming home and stayed up until 6am in training mode. I still hate the game, but can't stop playing.... help me.

Running Captain America, Iron Man, and Sentinel cause he is hella easy mode.

It's really hard to stop playing Sent. His assist is too god damn good, and He's like the backbone of any team. All it takes is one hit, and the match is over.

When does this winter brawl begin? I was up all night playing mvc3 and am just now about to crash. I will wake up for this!

Just to be clear it's not some Smash Brothers tournament right? Lately smash brothers and mvc3 has been getting mixed together (smash players almost winning tournaments)

Stream is supposed to be up noon-ish EST I believe.

Depending on the character, Iron Man may have to delay his SJC slightly out of S to get his combos to work consistently, because he often soars above his targets (average size characters like Ryu and Captain come to mind). You can also try delaying the inputs in your aerial combos as Iron Man has huge input windows for his Magic Series. This gives your opponent an opportunity to "catch up" to Iron Man in the air.

Also, don't forget he can double jump cancel his aerials if you SJC cancel too late and the target flies too high above Iron Man, and he can also Fly Cancel to give a similar effect to the Double Jump cancel.

*edit*

I know you weren't asking for the help, but typing this out helps me organize my thoughts on the issue.

What?

Some players that play/played Smash Bros. play/played other fighting games (such as myself). There are no tournaments regarding Smash at Winter Brawl. That whole paragraph is hella confusing.

yeah seriously it's not impossible for smash players to enjoy other games...and certainly the opposite is true as well. But alas to prove that you have "real" fighting game cred you have to bash it for no reason.

_dementia it's already unlocked, you hear it at random.

Are you sure? I played for 5 hours yesterday and never heard it. Is it not available in local versus?

edit, thanks vitaminwateryum. I'll try that.

I just found out about Winter Brawl in these last few posts, maybe the post before I posted on this page. I know there is SB Brawl talk and interest in this thread and didn't want to mistake a MVC3 tournament for a SB Brawl only tournament. I saw the thread a few mins ago and it's described as a type of Evo like event so that's cleared up.

I didn't mean anything like, "Get that brawl talk out of this thread", or "Brawl isn't a real fighting game." Just wanted to wake up for the right thing. Sorry about the confusion.

Lets go Justin! (Hope he picks She Hulk and Dog)

@Ploid - After seeing Wong clean house with Wolverine/Akuma/Storm on the first WNF then stick to his plan of playing a new team every opportunity he gets with Felicia/Zero/Doom then She-Hulk/Scooby/Tron (who should be the closest on the roster to Velma... :P), I want to see what other teams he could cook up for these matches.

SSFIV sold a lot worse than SFIV and fragmented the fanbase.
SSFIV may have sold worse than SFIV, but that is what Capcom was expecting. SSFIV actually exceeded Capcom's sales projections and I'm sure they made a pretty penny by moving 1.6 million units at a fraction of the expense of SFIV (even with the $40 price tag).

And I actually wonder how badly SSFIV "fragmented" the fan base. How many of the initial purchasers of SFIV were still regularly playing the game a year after its release?

Nickel and dime? It's not like Capcom is a utility or an insurance company literally taking advantage of a basic need and milking you for your hard earned dollars because you have no choice: it's a game and if some of us don't mind paying for content that infinitely extends it's shelf life. This isn't necessarily directed at you but enough with the anti-DLC lectures. Capcom isn't forcing your hand on anything and all the bitching in the world won't stop them from following this strategy. Vote with your dollars.
Like some here, I don't have a fundamental problem with DLC. I'm pretty easily parted with my money actually, but only if I see value at the price point. But to take Shuma and Jill as an example, I personally don't see a lot of marginal utility in their purchase at ~17% of the cost of MvC3's retail price. If there is a character that I really want and think I will use enough to compensate for the mark-up, I don't have a problem purchasing that DLC.

I'm actually thoroughly interested in viability piece by piece fighting game DLC by Capcom. Knowing SSFIV's revenues and estimates on industry-wide DLC adoption rates, the numbers don't exactly add up, which is why Capcom's future strategy interests me so much. I'm also very curious to see how Capcom's choices of characters/stages/etc pan out if they are adopting an exclusively DLC strategy for add-ons.

Actually, I was! So it's much appreciated. :)

Loving this game so far! I suck at it, but I'm finding it much more enjoyable that SFIV/Super. Really excited for WB today as well.

Also, Dante is fun. I'm straight up stylin' on fools and I have NO clue what I'm doing right now.

Re-acquired a TE and played MvC3 on it. First thing I noticed was that I wasn't pulling off the magic series consistently. When I was playing on a pad, the magic series could not have been easier. Looks like I'm learning the stick again. Marvel 3 however seems like the game that will actually get me back into fighters. When I was playing SSFIV, the combo timings just seemed much more difficult to pull off whereas in Marvel, it seems the timing is much more lenient and it really seems like a better stepping stone process. I pretty much know where to start off at as a beginner.

the link timing in SSFIV is still a huge mystery to me. It feels like there's a .3 second window to get the input in. And that window is hidden in a different spot for every move :\

I wouldn't say I like MVC3 better, but it's much more accessible. I guess that's how it was with MVC2 as well.

Way less than .3 of a second. That wouldn't be so bad.
