Anyone on PSN at the level of 1st class? I'd like to try and play one online so I can get the Combat Specialist Trophy. It's required to be in a ranked match so we'd have to play around with the searching a bit until we landed each other.

Set ranked to Region: Any and Skill: Any.
Within 5 matches, I had played a 2nd Lord and a High Lord.
Ding.

Would anyone like to add me to their PSN buddy list thingie? I'm not good so the better players may want to stay away unless you enjoy beating on halpless beginners. :p

My PSN Id is Real-Fantasies

Kinda sitting around doing nothing on the 360 as it is too...

The experience with this game is definitely not as personal as I expected it to be. I'm playing a lot more ranked and random player than I thought I ever would.

Kinda weird but I'm the same way, spectator mode in SSFIV really spoiled me.

What do you mean? Don't have a lot of XBL friends on or? The online features are kind of lacking, I wonder why Capcom went this route.

I'll probably be hopping online after WB5 is over if anyone wants some games.

I might take you up on that. I've practiced some, but I know I'm no where near your 7th lord status and style yet. Still I'm getting good results with Spencer/Haggar/Hulk

It's pretty strong and has great health, but the assists do a surprising amount of the work.
If Hulk can't keep it going for me I move to She-Hulk since I'm way better with her ( her DHC tag in blows though unless it's last)

It's both actually. Most lobbies on the 360 GAF MvC3 list are closed since people don't want to start a new room every time someone they don't like comes in(can't boot) and the hype in my circle petered out early on after people found out about the lack of spectator mode.

I've already fought 505 matches so it's not like the lack of features has put me off completely. It's just that there are several factors chipping away at something that I've been waiting so long for.

I guess I could say that I'm very conflicted about the choices they've made so far.

What are the names of the rankings online anyways?
Lords, I think.
There's also rangers and judges, I think these depend on your win percentage.
Anyway, the dude I fought was High Lord, which was above 1st Lord. I think you need a 1st xxxx or higher to get the trophy.

It's something like

Beginner > Amateur > Rookie > Fighter > 9th xxx >8th xxx > ... > 1st xxx > High xxx

Picked up the game earlier. Haven't played MvC2 since the Dreamcast days really but I'm guessing it's just me but the characters seem huge. Seems like every other second someone is up in the air and I can't see my opponents anymore.

Enjoying it so far though.

5peat is easy. Find something simple and abusable and coast your way to victory while the game's still new.

Only reason it took me 6 games to get it is because the first one lagged like mad.

Yeah, but finding players that won't beat the shit out of my cheese team is the problem. Matchmaking will probably put me with 140-0 win-loss people, knowing my luck.

If you do Rank: Same Region: Same and use the Iron Man/Sentinel/xxx cheese method, you could do it, probably.

Inspired by the stuff that went down in the finals at WB, what does everyone think the best underused (or not seen too often) assists are in this game so far?

Personally, I called Tron's Gustaff Flame & Morrigan's Dark Harmonizer as two assists that could lead to the development of some real alien technology, and I'm getting my theory half proven with J.Wong's amazing use of the former.

Felicia's Rolling Buckler

Oh this leads to another thought I had recently, Felicia is going to be the character to blow up way farther down the road, and it's going to be so spectacular, almost like the Jigglypuff of the Marvel side of things. How Rolling Buckler hasn't been explored yet outside of Wong playing around a bit with it is beyond me.

Moving along, I'd say that Chun's Lightning Kicks while decidedly simple can lead to a lot of shit is coupled with a good teleport character or trap layer.

Rolling Buckler hits low but not OTG, whereas I think one of Wesker's does both. I'm utilizing Felicia on my team and really need to make use of combos off of Rolling Buckler assist. I successfully open my opponents up with it but rarely make it lead to a big payoff.

Felicia's ground pressure is amazing and she has a fairly straightforward infinite on every character in XF2/XF3. She's one of those characters who is susceptible to mismatches though (read: any character with a good aerial game). Not that that isn't true of some other good characters as well though.

Definitely. I played some SSF4 for the first time since MvC3 came out last night, and it felt so good being in a lobby where I could spectate matches again.

Yeah, but finding "Amateurs" in America probably ain't gonna happen in five minutes? :p

I've got an idea of the cheese team. Just need to figure out how to build meter safely to Dual Hyper Combo people in the face.

Wheres the challenge on PSN? Im 28-0, only two fights gave me a problem. And it takes forever to find matches in this, I hope the patch is out within the next 2 weeks.
Why not play Gaffers then? I recommend shooting Q a message.

You could probably use just about anyone on that team -- however, Spencer and Sentinel are more rush/mix characters (though I suppose you could turtle with Sent)... so probably someone mixed or rush to fit.

If you're doing better with Sent and Spencer, they're 2-hit limited and Marvel combo chain types... Deadpool is hunter, which I find to be a pain in the balls. Ryu is a relatively solid character with that aim-able shinku hadoken... he's Marvel series type with good health and is relatively straightforward?

Been reading the book I see :)! Seems I only can manage marvel series combo type chars... some combos really get confusing for the other types!

Man, there are some really messed up things about this game when it comes to features, but there are also some nice little additions that make life a lot easier. The preset teams take the tedium out of picking the necessary characters.

The only thing stopping me from using the interesting new presets is the lack of specific characters(strider for one). The presets are going to be heavily used when more characters are added to the game. I kind of wish they had more than three slots though. The player license is also pretty comprehensive and easy to read through. The one thing that would make it perfect a tweak to the friends list so that only the people who have the game appear instead. I'm not interested in seeing friends who don't have the game at all on this thing.

The shitty part is that finding a ranked match with the settings set to a similar level will talk forever. I've been playing with everything set up to find an opponent at any level.

I'm an 8th lord it gets pretty crazy when I get matched up with a high lord or a 2nd lord. I feel bad playing the rookies and fighters as well. The system is all out of wack at the moment.

One weird thing is that the license actually shows your character slots... kind of a giveaway to who you will be choosing in the fight... welcome counter picking hell ;(.

Hunter series breaks my head. I have trouble alternating the crouching/standing all the way up the chain. I much prefer 3-hit alternating or Marvel style (I think most of the people I use are that way, except Morrigan and she's taken a backseat lately for Wesker/Akuma/Chun... though Chun is Hunter too, I think).

This only works in lobbies, no?
Hard to read someone's license before a ranked match -- and I don't think there's a lot of opportunity in normal player match either...

I gotta get better at this game, lol. I really want to have Phoenix on my team, but I get excited and make dumb decisions with her.

Ah well, just have to hang in there and practice.
Can some of you add me on PSN? Real-Fantasies is my id. I'm not logged in on it now since I need to go to bed... I'd love to be able to play with fellow gaffers tomorrow or something. :)

Keep losing when I get a three win streak. Like I said: Platinum for me will be impossible due to this stupid online achievement. :|

When the fuck is the school kids online so I can completely body them with cheese and forget ranked mode exists?

Just do player matches. Even comes with an instant salty runback option.

Fuck Player Matches. Getting ragemail is worth it for chip wins.

Until Jill comes, I'm cheesein'.

I need to find a character with a good assist. I have shehulk, and hers blow but I'm not replacing her. Leilei's is awesome *only* if you can get the super armor on here, which is easier said than done.

Put her on point then DHC it.

Like I said, easier said than done. She gets rushed downed and zoned pretty easily, and like I said she take extreme damage. Unless I get that first combo off with her, she's good as dead. Even if I do put her on point, I still don't have a good assist to back her up.

Tron- Flamethrower/Boulder
Doom- Rocks/Missiles
Chun- Legs
Dante- Jam Session
Akuma- Tatsu
Morrigan- Meter building assist

I think those are all pretty great. Personally I'd go with Tron and her flame assist for your team.

I usually DHC from Air Finishing Shower into Hsien-Ko's golden armor at the first opportunity, then immediately raw tag to my 3rd character. I get the tag in before the opponent lands on the ground.

Ya, I could probably raw tag from the 2nd hit of emerald cannon. Again, this still leaves me without a useful assist UNTIL that happens. I still need something in the mean time.

Put out heaps of Gongs. They will provide enough of a wall to pull it off.

Put SOMEONE ELSE on point and then DHC into it, also, if that helps.

That's two strategies that I find work flawlessly.

hey guys, after waiting forever for capcom store to send me this game i've gotten a decent amount of practice on it and wanted to play with some of my fellow gaffers here. How do i go about playing you guys? My psn is theonekid0

Senpu Bu is a fine assist if you are smart with it. The armor just makes it godly.

Works great on random matches where people don't know what they're doing, different story otherwise. And like i said yes I can DHC into it, but that still leaves me without a useful assist until I got 2 bars and land a combo.

It is nice, but verrrry dangerous to do. She gets tagged too easily and with the low health it's usually fatal.
