What rank was the guy you beat? Your original post made it sound like you thought you would get it for playing someone who had played a 1st rank or higher player, not that you'd played one yourself...

If for whatever reason that persons rank wasn't 1st Lord or High Lord, I don't think it will pop. When I got mine against a JPN player yesterday, he was High Lord.

I never understood this mentality. I mean, I'm not saying that your point of view is not valid... but personally, if I spend money on costumes, it's because I like the way they look. I don't really care if someone sees that version of the normal version of me, so long as I win. ^_^

I've noticed that. Just another thing to chalk up on the "the gameplay is perfect, everything else is borked" theme of this game.

Another thing to bitch about : If you're playing single player with fight request on, and if your opponent drops or you lose the connection for whatever reason, it takes you back to the Xbox Live menu. Thus you immediately lose your single player progress. Not that this is a long game or anything, but it is just another example of how this game doesn't seem fully polished.

That is all kinds of stupid. I buy the costumes because I like them, but I think it's silly to bar other people from seeing them.

It's a horrible way to advertise your costumes if you ask me.

It's only that way on PS3 and has something to do with the way DLC updates work or something. I recall Capcom saying it wasn't econically feasible for them when they were asked why X360 users saw costumes they didn't purchase. Probably has to do with the subscription model of XBL vs free-to-play PSN.
 
Well, for Super SFIV they put up the "catalog" downloads so that everyone could see the costumes online, even if they hadn't bought the packs.

Haven't seen any mention of a costume catalog yet for MvC3, but that may be because the first set of costumes were already finished in time to put them on the disc. So for the moment, I assume everyone will see this first set online whether they own it or not. The data is there.

If I have this correct, on PSN the hidden cost for free online play, is that you have to pay the bandwidth fees for downloadable updates/patches/content, and you don't have to pay the server fees on XBL for your game's DLC and patch data.

So, there's a reason not to put up lots of free content that you don't make money off of, that has a large file size for download, on PSN.

Maybe this only counts for actual DLC like costume packs and catalogs and not for fundamental game patches. Since obviously, patches have to be available forever in case someone's game isn't updated when they log in to PSN to play online. The publisher of the original game could have gone out of freakin' business or whatever.

The first costume pack is already on the disc. I thought that's what the data mining had revealed; data for Shuma, partial data for Jill, and data for the first set of costumes. Nothing past that.

Oh no need to apologize (if it was you). It's the broken custom search that's to blame. I managed to get it anyway. They were still matching me with 4th Lord's and others way out of my league, but I managed to beat them thanks to a few strategies I picked up while getting my ass kicked.

I love Hsien-Ko's golden armor hyper.

Now I just need to surpass the 1st class rank....like that's gonna happen. Guess I'll just have to find someone who has sometime. Might as well get some good old fashioned player matches in.
 
I hope it won't be only 4 characters per costume packs at a time... that will take an ass long time for all characters to get 'em

After creating a ton of random combos for every character in the game, James Chen approached me and asked if I'd like to create compilations of starter combos to help out players that are just learning. Well... here is the first batch! I hope you enjoy!

Sequence 1: Taskmaster, Dormammu, Spider-Man, Super-Skrull, Thor, and Magneto!
(Note: transcripts can be found in the description and on the wiki as they are added!)

Remember... these combos are meant to be at the beginner's level with just a hint of what is to come! There may be one or two combos that are slightly above beginner, but they are typically some of the first things you should learn (combo-wise) for the character in question.

I think im going to pick up magneto because I really like his mobility and yipes makes him look smooth as butter. Learning him will help me master triangle jumps for other characters and just overall mobility stuff.

I can barely do parts of the Taskmaster stuff. The full combos are "Aprentice level" :( ill always suck in this game.

0:52: This also causes the combo counter to stay active, even when not actually performing a combo.

1:21: 'Tracking' moves still work but the opponent is entirely invincible.


1:33: Defeating the opponent with the glitch causes a strange, delayed KO.
Due to these two things i suspect we won't see a lot of abuse of this. It actually buffs the opponent. People may start using it online to troll though.
 
I had the weirdest thing happen to me. I went to get some food earlier today and when I was at the fridge I got this strong feeling of wanting to check the mailbox. So I did, and there my copy of mvc3 was. I think I sat for 4 hours just trying to learn some basic combos after that. I totally suck right now but hey, I want to get better. I tried thor but he just doesn't feel right, maybe I'll give him another try if I manage to get better. I enjoyed Dormammu and Akuma though. :)

Really nice! This will help me become better with Dormammu.

Yeah, I meant the first pack. Looking back, using "packs" as plural probably was probably pretty confusing on my part.

Do you play on pad or stick? The biggest advice I give to people having trouble mixing qcf's with dp's is to always make sure you're inputting the right direction BEFORE hitting a button. Slow it down. Do your DP motion and make sure you're at down-forward before hitting a button. Same with quarter circles. Make sure you're actually holding forward and not down-forward, then hit a button. You've got like an entire second to hit a button while holding the last direction of the input in order to get the special move out.

And are those costumes really on disc? I don't recall any of the data mining people showing those (just Jill and Shuma). If so, that's disappointing, and makes me think it might take a REALLY long time for us to actually see more characters and costumes, since it's obvious they didn't cook up Jill/Shuma and these costumes in a month.
 
Any tips on executing the weapon change? It kills me... I just can't seem to do it fast enough and still get the next move out. :(
When I'm having trouble with a combo, I tend to break it into parts. Unfortunately, there's no special trick to this one other than doing it faster than you are now.

So Shadow Mode is free. Here's a question; if spectator mode is actually patched into the base game after all, who will come forth and say "okay, I was too cynical, Capcom cares a bit about their players"?

Or will people shift the focus of bitching over to the next costume packs, etc.
People complain because they want to complain, not because there are things to complain about. It will move on to something else.

It's just an e-ranking, it doesn't mean anything.

Saw the ton of screens for the dlc outfits on the facebook page but no colors for them other than what were originally presented.

So no alt colors for the alt outfits?
There have to be, otherwise opposing players couldn't both choose the costume. Can you imagine how lame it would be if you couldn't choose the costume you paid for because your opponent did first?

I said it before, I'll repeat again, though I know it won't work for everyone:

Arcade mode; fight request on; ranked match; any region; any skill/rank.

I fought a JPN dude with over 1000 wins within 10 matches last night. There was also a 2nd Lord in there too (fought him twice). This should actually be a little easier to get in a couple weeks when more people hit that high level of rank.
 
Might be my Xbox, but i noticed the game occasionally freezez a seccond when i insall the game to the hd. But i deleted the game now and it runs perfectly .
 
I really dislike how quick people rank up against folks of lower rank in MVC3 online. These guys who have 800-50 win ratios are just murdering folks who have less than 20 total games and ranking up just the same. Honestly, searching under Rank: Any is infuriating to me. Beasting some poor guy with near perfects then losing to a guy randomly from fullscreen hypers and lag makes me nerd rage like no other.

But when I run into legitimately good players and lose, I have no problem taking a loss and end up playing the same person 5-10 times over in ranked because we're both searching Rank:Same. Problem with that is it can take 15-30 minutes to find a game at times in higher ranks.

I did not know that the electric step otgs. That is good shit. I usually use air dash m m l m h s sj m m air dash m m magic fingers . I may opt to do some of these relaunch loops first.

My execution is crap so I still cant pull off buktooth's loop consistently.

Edit: did GAF just got out for 5 minutes for anyone else?

Yeah it was down for me too. Got a link to some of these Doom set ups you speak of? I <3 Doom a ton now. I'm trying to remake my team from scratch to have him on point.

My old team was Zero, Chris, Deadpool. I think I'm going to try for Doom, Sentinel, Magneto.

This is exactly the kind of shit I was working on today was to find a way to be able to work them to the corner, or at least land right next to them from a combo string so I could do his shoryuken motion hyper for bigger damage than the shitty fingers hyper damage.

Totally going to master this. If I can get this and the Magneto loop I'll have a bad ass team backed up with big papa sent for the necessary moments of level 3 x factor come backs. :D
 
You know, sometimes it seems like my combo ends if there's even a millisecond between attacks.

Meanwhile, other guys, it seems like they can grab a coffee and still have their next hit counted towards the combo.

Life is so unfair. :(

It's ok most players are shit right now anyways who wants to watch that. Go watch some tourney streams.
