Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster Discussion Thread

As a kid with very little knowledge of Capcom beyond Ryu and Mega Man (I knew who they were, but had never played either of their games at the time), and very little knowledge of Marvel beyond Spider Man and Wolverine, playing MvC2 in arcades was pretty confusing!

It gave me a warped sense of who was important, since obviously characters in the game had to be important since they wouldn't add random nobodies to the game! It was the first time I was introduced to 99% of those characters.

Reminds me of confused people who thought Shuma Gorath was an original capcom creation and Captain Commando was a Marvel character.

When I first played MvC1, I was surprised when CapCom and Strider were in the game. In the case for Jin, I was like "..who the hell is that?"

That Complete Change Ryu was a cool idea.

But that game was long after Ruby Heart's original introduction in MvC2. The original release date of that mobile game she was supposed to be in was 2014 I believe? It never got released as far as I know.

I know. Yeah, it got cancelled before it could even make to that date.

Yes she is -- her grandfather is a classic Capcom character, but she isn't.

Yeah, a mobile game from 2014. That obviously wasn't in the works for 15 years.

She's an "Original" character.

And yes, I know that. I never said it was for around the time MvC2 was out. I was just mentioning how she was going to her own game to finally be of something instead of just some character placed in MvC2.

Wait, what? O.e

In my town, the arcades/bowling alleys that had arcade games seemed to only ever have MvSF, and I rarely saw MvC and MvC2. I knew of Street Fighter a bit from before, but its probably how I was exposed to it the most as a kid. Come MvC however, I knew who Mega Man was and had seen Morrigan before due to ads for that Darkstalkers OVA, but otherwise I never really though much if the characters were actually important enough. I just wanted to pick characters who could do crazy things. Two things I'll note though is that for some reason I thought Amingo was from a rhythm game (Probably was thinking of Samba de Amigo for some reason) and that I was also unsure for a long time if Shuma was actually Marvel or not. I finally "confirmed" it to myself when I went to a movie theater that had a cabinet for MSH, and that wasn't because Shuma was in that game, but rather that the cabinet had images of various comic panels on it, including Shuma. I was a pretty big Marvel fan back in the day, but even I didn't know about him, since he was only in like a handful of issues back then.

MvC 2 is probably the game that got me into crossovers. The idea of having all these characters fighting from a million different places was just the coolest thing.

Captain Commando is a legit design I think they could build something in the action genre with. Its 80's arcade cheese so no need to take itself seriously...and there in would be its strength and draw power. Giant bodybuilder trex robot with helicopter blades on its back that shoots missiles when it roars? Yeah, maybe a bit much for other games, but Captain Commando could pull that off without batting an eye because its already an insane setting and main cast (good god Baby Ninja?).

I'd make the whole character a tribute to over the top 90's comic book action heroes and even more over the top 80s action cartoons. He'd be a wonderful new addition to the 3rd person action melee genre IMO. Plus since he's a Cyborg you'd have free reign to write in any bizarro weapons, tools, and gameplay mechanics that were fun without having to overthink it.

Just an untapped icon I feel would work.

Oh, you know what has me excited? English voice work for the characters that didn't have them before.

Jin, Captain Commando, etc.

I'm curious as how their voices would be, and whatever characters get in.

Edit: Although, I would never change Jin's voice to English. I love it so much. <3 I'm crazy Lol

Holy shit! I never realized he voiced Shoma in Rival Schools! I love Shoma. Shiiiit my life is a life everywhere!

"BLOODIAAA!"

Every time they would say Ridley was too big for smash I can help but think of shuma.

Sakurai should play marvel sometime.

???? There was a 90's style arcade beat-em-up for Captain Commando.

Sorry if I miss-read you post.

The baby is Elsa, so presumably her father expected her to at least survive.

Its shown in Secret Wars: Marvel Zombies that...well...Ulysses was a bit unstable at best and a complete psychopath at worst.

On the topic of Nextwave, Monica's abilities would be crazy to see in a fighting game

Man, I've never picked up Nextwave, but now I'm both picking it up and wanting it in MvC. I mean, roster's probably Low 30's and the MCU alone more than fills that up, but maybe they can get in down the road? Maybe after Doom and the X-Men?

So many possible characters /teams!

I don't think I'll be able to just play one pair
That's why 2v2 has me excited. With 3v3, I may literally have more options, however I feel like I play through the entire roster faster. It's all in my head of course.

Now if there's a 1v1 mode, that'd be even better.

Ah, didn't remember that reference without context. Not many memorable one-liners in AoS.

What's weird is that his movie rights are owned by Lionsgate right? Maybe he's on the table too lol.

EDIT. Many incomplete thoughts put together lol.

EDIT 2 wow he's back with Marvel. Who knew?

Didn't know Man-Thing's movie rights were back with Marvel, let along getting name-dropped in Agents of SHIELD.

Explains the new comic announcement with RL Stine writing.

Wait, what? O.e

Wow this is new to me. Never knew people thought that.

Up until around 2006 if you googled "shuma gorath", 100% of the image results would be screenshots of the capcom games, so some less informed sites would list him as a capcom original creation.

Likewise some other uninformed sites would call Captain Commando an obscure marvel character.

People know much better now.

I reallllllllly hope Jin and Captin Commando make it into this, I want to punch fools in the face with that giant robot arm.

I think it's a safe bet that we'll get some sort of a trailer featuring Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon, prior to or around the release of GOTG2 in May, but hopefully we'll get some more teasers/trailers between now and then.
