The image just features covers of female-headlined books, as every female-headlined book was part of the promotion. Moon Girl (along with Devil Dinosaur) was part of the Women of Power promotion too. Gamora was also part of Women of Power and did feature in other promotional media, and was pushed in some of the games that were included in the promo. Here's another promo image:
I wouldn't be so sure. Clone characters with a reskin and different voices as DLC is basically a license to print money. MOBAs do it all the time.

Yeah, much like Contest of Champions & Marvel Heroes, Marvel Puzzle Quest dodged the bullet.
The Women of Power promo basically featured every female character that was popular or had a book at the time.
Anyway, I think the inclusion of characters like Squirrel Girl and Spider-Gwen alongside their most prominent and popular female characters says a lot about Marvel's priorities.

Yeah, I think Howard has a serious chance. Question is if he's gonna be a quack-fu + magic character, or if he's gonna be a mech pilot like he is in that mobile game I forgot.
I really do hope we get a MODOK-sized curveball or two in the roster. Death's Head would be my pick for extremely cool and unlikely.
One of my favorite characters is Beta Ray Bill but he'll never get in due to being too similar to Thor. I can't even make a good argument for him, but I still think he's awesome.
Can't disagree about Nextwave Machine Man though. Would be a perfect fit.
If we do see some crazy I'm guessing it'll come from Capcom. I'm assuming whatever they plan to do for Monster Hunter will be insane one way or the other.

Man, it's easy to forget how much of a curveball MODOK was. Thanks to MvC3, he's one of the top of mind Marvel villains for me. I remember how salty I was when he was first revealed. He grew on me quickly after a day (tangent--because why does every character need to be beautiful? "Ugly" or bizarre characters add to the diversity of a roster) and became one of my favorite additions.
I don't think Howard the Duck or the Runaways are WTF anymore. Though 5-6 years ago, I would have.
As for WTF characters I'd want, Machine Man, The Captain and Dirk Anger, definitely. Also Reptil. As for characters that would be "oh that's so stupid, would be funny", Goldballs, Shark Girl, Kite Man, Penance, Cosmo the Space Dog, and Mad Jim Jaspers. Also Overdrive, like seyavesh suggested here or in the other thread.
On the Capcom side, Fiona from Haunting Ground, Cosmi from Under the Skin, Harman Smith from Killer 7, Princess Tiara from Gaia Master (although she was considered for TvC, so who knows) and Pink Ostrich.
And since we're back with 2v2, maybe some giant characters like American Kaiju, Beowulf (DMC3), Berial (DMC4), Giganotosaurus (Dino Crisis 2), and Kyuubi (Okami).

I don't know what Marvel's doing with him these days but I think Slapstick would be a neat "WTF" addition from the Marvel side. He's a superhero who's special ability is doing wacky cartoon shit, which fits MVC like a glove.

Trust me if Howard the Duck gets confirmed you will see a flood of "wtf has capcom/marvel lost their minds" which will intensify when the final roster is confirmed and "wtf no *xmen/ff4/popular character* but HtD got in".

I still see people crying about Rocket on GameFAQs (yeah, I know). I don't get the big deal. Including Rocket was a great move and showed brilliant foresight on the part of Marvel or Capcom, or whoever pushed for or okayed him.
Similarly, if Howard, Slapstick, Machine Man, Gwenpool or Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur were announced, people would go crazy. Honestly I live for that moment. I hope all five of them are playable when all is said and done.

I remember being initially baffled at Rocket being in over other Marvel characters I wanted more, but was more "angry" that mega man had somehow not made the roster and the freaking Nemesis and Red Arremer did.

I'm beating a dead horse here but they really, really should of delayed Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for a couple of months. It would of been much more beneficial for everyone for multiple reasons. Niitsuma actually wanted to include 8 more characters, which would of made MVC3's roster count surpass MVC2's and also would of probably included Mega Man (X?) and Gene in that lot on the Capcom side.
It releasing in early 2012 would of also been better timing, as A. it would of been near the release of the Avengers movie, allowing it to capitalize on the hype and success of that film, and B. it would of been just about one year since the release of Vanilla MVC3, which is a fairly reasonable timeframe to release a retail update, rather than like only after a few months like what they actually did lol.
I hear the reason UMVC3 was rushed out was because the higher ups in Capcom wanted it out by the holidays and also because they probably didn't have that much time left with the license. Both Marvel and Capcom really should of found an agreement somewhere, so it's definitely encouraging to hear that they're collaborating much more directly for Infinite's development than they've done before.

Not a fan of the artist's rendition of the character. That modern look looks good however, based in the way he looks in Mercs for Money. However, from what I remember from his Avengers Initiative appearance--he looked kinda unsettling. Wasn't a fan of that. Big fan of his classic look.
What? MOBAs don't have clone characters; they have some skins that seriously switch up a character's look, but they don't do clone characters. Spider-Gwen could work as an Spiderman skin, but there is no way for Jane-Thor to work as an skin for Thor.
That's what I meant. My post was poorly worded. I meant clone characters could appear in MvC, which I could see being done in a similar way MOBAs do reskins that change a character in every way but moveset. Not like how Smash does it where certain characters come with a male and female version, but as skins added down the line as DLC. It's relatively easy money, and would be a way for certain fan favorites like Spider-Gwen or Kate Bishop to be added. Jane Thor is more difficult, for sure.
Nah the Tsunami was the real reason. UMvC3 is really just a packaged GotY edition. If they released early next year it would have conflicted with SFxTK.
No publisher, as mad as Capcom or not, would have in their right minds released UMvC3 as close as they did to MvC3.

Do you think Capcom and Marvel will prioritize the inclusion of more villains just because of the story mode? Do you think some villains would make it in just because of their story potential?

They said in the Playstation interview that story is one of, if not the primary driver of who gets in and who doesn't. I don't know if we'll see more or less villains though, I imagine it'll still be mostly heroes because there's more demand and more of them.

Well for Marvel, I'd love for them to just add Star Wars characters for the lols. Just Vader maybe. It's be a fun way to compete with NRS's usage of "guest stars" in their games.
Also, as I've said before STAN LEE!
Not really a character, but part of me is clinging to Nibel's "MCU Actor" rumor. Even if it's not for EVERYBODY, I'd be hyped as Hell if they even got Daredevil with Charlie Cox voicing him.
That and maybe an AoS character like Coulson and Howard the Duck (which wouldn't be THAT crazy as it's been said) would be my crazy picks for the Marvel side.

I'm honestly a bit concerned that they're gonna go with just super-safe MCU & new major comic choices for the Marvel side. It'd be a shame if curveballs were foregone for the sake of advertising. Even Rocket was a long-term advertising ploy in UMvC3 (one most didn't see coming at the time).

Well there may be relatively unexpected characters that Marvel may want to promote, and there might be unexpected characters that are meant to be there for story purposes. For instance, with villains, most people think of Ultron, Thanos, and Loki, but there has to be a lower tier villain in the works there for a story based game. That might just end up being someone like Ronan though, since he can fit that role, and be MCU based.
Personally for a semi-obscure villain, who I'm hoping for isn't really a Marvel character, but rather Lord Raptor from Darkstalkers.
