Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster Discussion Thread

It's not hard to make a "good" roster when you can throw in 70 god damn characters.

It's hard to make a good roster that pleases a lot of folks at less than 40. I would say almost impossible because someone always feels shafted.

That actually make me wonder what would be final numbers for base roster, and final number with all character passes, base, etc.

I really hope that everyone would be happy with the roster at the end, but I really find it unlikely tho.

Fixed that for you.

The roster size is one of those things that can really be surprising.

Mike Evans said "it won't be disappointing", so that alone should put it above 30. I've seen some people suggest it'll be 20-24 on the base roster, which seems ridiculously low, 2v2 or not.

I'm just going to play it safe and say the roster will be around 32 characters.

There's so much mystery with the game that it excites me.

Regina tho.

Can I just say how good it feels to have a huge mystery for the roster again? All the guesses, all the leaks.

It's a feeling we just don't get too often and it's great.

I would die if Lord raptor made it. But I doubt it.

3 frame animated assist doesn't count!

The game was pretty great, and the roster was pretty good for it's era. When I think about it now, people just have way too high expectations for the rosters nowadays. Can you imagine the reactions if Capcom confirmed that we would get about 12-16 characters roster for a fighting game this year.

I would even imagine it wouldn't be pretty because people are going to be very upset since they always set their expectations at ridiculously high. Well, selling the game at 60 dollars mightn't help either.

I doubt there will be any outrage over Shuma Gorath not making the cut.

Maybe very few.

I personally don't care what the roster is for the most part barring some check lists that I think will be fulfilled.

I want some X Men in there. I feel like they are still a major part of the Marvel brand and a group of characters I like a lot (as do a lot of people). Punishing the game over some feud in the movie universe is asinine in my eyes as a video game consumer. They are such a major part of the entire franchise that it just feels wrong to not have them in some capacity.

I want some DMC representation as it's my favorite gaming franchise and I know Dante will be in there so I don't have to worry in that regard. Even if only Dante makes it in then that's fine by me. Yeah I like Vergil, Trish, Lady, Nero etc. but if you really needed one rep from the series it would be Dante solo.

I want Gene in there. Just ignore Beef's completely incorrect and bad opinions about the game Godhand... it's not about the game first of all. When I think of "who would make a GOOD character to be in a VS game?" then Gene hits top on my list right next to Dante and we all know how well Dante was received in MVC3 for his movelist. Gene is a kung fu, martial artists connoisseur's wet fantasy... Shaowebb talks about Iron Fist this, Daredevil/Polimar that but Gene has all these dudes beat clean. His movelist selection puts DMC characters to shame, his swag level is off the charts, every move he does is designed to be hype.. he was so custom made to be in a VS game that from a game play point of view I see absolutely no reason why they would have Street Fighter characters in a VS game when Gene could do all of that and more. Yeah yeah I know they have to have Ryu/Chun Li for the brand stuff... but when it comes to piloting super hero like being with swag and flair in a VS game... Gene ticks off all the marks.

This guy has moves that are named stuff like "LA BOMBA!", "Godly Smash", "Haymaker of God", "The President Punch", "Granny Smacker", "Ball Buster" etc.

I'm pretty much guaranteed at least 2 Resident Evil characters. So it's definitely easier for me to accept a weak roster with that at least.
Yeah, as long as there are 2 characters I want to play, I'm happy. I am open to the roster beyond that because everyone has their preferences. Plus, tournament results can help make a character popular. Who the hell outside of comic fans cared about Nova in MvC3? Who cared about Spencer before we saw Bionic Lancer? Who cared about Dormammu before we saw his perfection in digital form?

I want to give Capcom the chance to introduce me to new characters and let me appreciate them.

I should have said after MvC2, it's hard to imagine a Marvel vs Capcom game now without him.
As a kid, I thought Strider was made for MvC. I think most people did until MvC3.

Look, all I know is that people are gonna be pissed if one of these aren't in it:

Regina
Gene
Asura
Shuma Gorath
Miss Marvel
The smallest of minorities care about these characters. You could have none of them and it wouldn't impact sales beyond the single digits.

People actually forget that Dino Crisis is a multi million selling franchise. More people should theoretically know about Regina than Asura and Gene combined.

In fact, I bet a lot of people don't even know who Gene actually is even if they played Godhand at some point in their life. They can probably recognize his face but they would be like "oh that's the dude from Godhand, oh he's swag!" Asura at least is named after his own game so you can tell his name just by looking at him.

The main problem with the Capcom franchises is that there is just a ton of overlap. People who played the DMC series have also usually played the RE series and people who played the DC series have also played the RE series. So even if DC sold millions of copies... you aren't going to get that many more people buying the game because those sales are overlapping with characters like Wesker and Chris. I mean our DC resident fan is a prime example of this... and I am too. I don't just like DMC, I like DC, RE, Strider (the games yes), SF etc. So even if they don't have Dante in Marvel Infinite, I am still buying the game anyway because I am just a big fan of Capcom in general (well the idea and legacy of Capcom at least, not what the stuff they are trying to peddle these days).

Yah exactly, even if someone thinks the game doesn't play well Gene has so many moves and homages to classic kung fu movies it's crazy. Let alone his on style on top of all that.

I legit want that Roulette Super in the game. Pretty easy way to have a bunch of generic, quirky supers in the game without having to worry about inputs.

Speaking of Shuma, I just got reminded about just how unsettling his alt costume in UMvC3 is.

I can usually deal with monster designs, but I get a little queasy whenever I see his alt. I don't even consider myself to be trypophobic, either.

Yeah, absolutely, I thought it was going to be another four years at least, especially considering that the only reason SFV happened was because of Sony funding it. And MvC has always been a second-string Capcom fighter, at best. So I'm basically still in shock.

Shaowebb talks about Iron Fist this, Daredevil/Polimar that but Gene has all these dudes beat clean.

I've talked to Shaowebb personally about Gene, and he's on the Gene hype train for real.

You know how I know for a fact that leaked list is BS?
It mentioned Jin.
Goodnight sweet prince... :(.

EDIT: Paging Dr. Ryce for a possible Jin soft confirm/deconfirm. Lol.

Since phoenix has almost no chance to come back I want Sigma to inherit the revive from meter mechanic since he's clearly most deserving of it :P
