Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster Discussion Thread

Devil Dinosaur would merge with the Giganotosaurus from Dino Crisis 2. Regina would merge with Moon Girl and become Moon Queen.

Apologies if this was posted earlier, but this is a version of the gameplay footage posted by PlayStation Access
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pizhVPAGjV0
Nothing new, but the quality is not bad for a YouTube video. The life bar, portraits, and meters below seem pretty sharp. Even for YouTube, what stood out to me is the difference in crispness of the visuals of the gameplay versus the HUD. They seem to have used the actual models for the character icons, and just look at the difference between that of the icon and the actual model. (I know there will be some loss of detail in the video due to compression and the HUD being static)

I really hope they can tweak this. They said they're going for a "cinematic look", but it really just seems to be washed out colors and blurred details, not really issues with the models themselves.

I know this thread is for stages and roster discussion, but I really want to discuss the new article Eventhubs posted. How stringent are the rules for off-topic?

https://www.eventhubs.com/news/2017/may/04/capcom-plans-sell-2-million-units-marvel-vs-capcom-infinite-says-they-have-learned-street-fighter-5s-launch/

Capcom says they have learned from their mistakes. They want to sell 2 million copies of MvCI. They also wanted to sell 2 million copies of SFV by March 31st, 2016. How many have they sold to date? 1.6 million.

While not ideal for Street Fighter, it's actually a good thing for Marvel. SF is the kind of juggernaut that can withstand some bad press and a bad release. If Marvel had a release as bad as SFV, it would mean the end of the series.

I don't see how a bad Marvel release could be the end of the series. It would have to be a catastrophic failure to end it.

Okay, maybe not the end of the series, but losing money and getting a ton of bad publicity would make Marvel wary of making another deal. MvC has always been second-string as far as Capcom is concerned. There will always be Street Fighter games, no matter how bad their releases are.

I am very curious about what Sigma's playstyle and moveset is gonna be. He is clearly based off the first X game, but that form didn't have much more than the wall cling/zig zag, dashy slashy, and head bullets. He's got to have some virus related stuff I'd imagine. Very excited to see more from him

Considering they made an effective moveset for PHOENIX WRIGHT, I have faith that they can do him justice.

MvC is not second string. It's just not a Capcom pillar. MvC2 came out in 2000 and MvC3 came out in 2011. So 11 years between 2-3 and six between 3 and Infinite. If MvCI doesn't do well, it more than like just won't be focused on for a while. Even Street Fighter's had periods of no releases. SF3 originally came out in '97 with SF4 releasing in 2008.

Just strengthens the case for Dino Crisis coming back any day now

Ten years ago people never expected to see another Street Fighter game.

So how long until Capcom announced Squirrel Girl and why hasn't it happened already? I'm imagining a combination of Felicia's basic attacks with Tron Bonne's specials, replacing servbots for squirrels.

That's not exactly true. SF4 was announced in 2006. But prior to that, yes, few expected to see Street Fighter again after 7 years after 3rd Strike, and 5 years after EX ended with 3.

But hey, at least SF fans didn't have to wait as long for SF4 as DMC fans for DMC5 after 4, heh.

I went back to Capcom-Unity forums to check it out (I was a member there years before I became a GAFfer). My brain cells suffered greatly.

It used to be great when Svensson (Capcom VP) still worked there because he posted/replied a lot,and his posts were often quite insightful about what was going on there, game development, etc. After he left Capcom the forums became completely useless.

I can concur. At least the FGC community I knew never thought sf4 would happen. I kicked over the nearest chair when they revealed it I was so excited and didn't know what to do.

Mike Evans: We’ve had a lot of freedom, actually. When we’re picking the characters for this game we’re looking at a couple of different things. We had these huge lists all throughout preproduction of what characters we’d want. When it comes down to picking the final character roster, we’re looking at… well.

So, we’re telling a story this time and a good story has really fun interactions between characters. Especially in a crossover game like this – in the stinger you saw X and Rocket Racoon having a back and forth there. Or, like, two strong female characters – Chun-Li and Captain Marvel, and them coming together as leaders in the story. So we’re thinking about as fans on both sides… what kind of pair-ups do we want to see? What kind of cool interactions could we envision in the story?

That was one aspect of it. The other was of course from the gameplay side. Marvel helps us out a lot with what’s coming up in the Marvel universe – like, what’s the five-year roadmap, what’s the content looking like, and also on the authenticity of the characters. But when it comes to fighting games, they really leave it to us because they realise that we’re the experts on making a fun fighting game.

They want us to pick the characters that we feel like we can represent the best within a fighting game. There are certain archetypes of characters like quick, small characters who can move really quickly like Strider, or really large brawler characters like Hulk. We’re looking for a nice combination of different character types. It’s a lot of things.

It’s definitely not Marvel coming to us and telling us, y’know… hey, we have this movie coming up so you have to include this character. It’s not like that. There’s a really long history with Capcom and Marvel back to the 90s, well before Marvel is what it is today, and the Capcom approach to bringing these Marvel characters to life in these games like X-Men Children of the Atom and X-Men vs Street Fighter… bringing them off the page of the comics in a way that nobody was really doing at the time is part of the Capcom DNA and approach. They really respect that on their side too, so in that sense it’s a collaboration.

That said, when it comes to their characters that we do finally agree upon to be represented in the game, they’re giving us great feedback all the time. The development team in Japan are also big Marvel fans, and they’re taking inspiration from the comics, the movies, here and there, but when it comes to the representation of that and being authentic… Bill Rosemann, the creative director on the Marvel side really helps us out with all that stuff.

Lots of interesting stuff in this interview.

Tiffany showing up in the SFV backgrounds and being promoted in the Street Fighter Swim Suit comic gives hope for her or other Rival Schools reps making it in the game.

They also confirmed that the 2017 character pass characters will all release in 2017, 2 per month.

I haven't been following super closely, but haven't Capcom not met their set deadlines for SFV season pass characters? I feel like I hear about them missing dates a lot...

Hopefully that won't be the case with mahvel

It's happened twice. Ibuki was late, and now this character in s2 is late.

We got Ibuki and Balrog on the same day, and then Juri released a month ahead of schedule.

Ed's finished but is tied in with the CFN update build of the game (it also contains the balance updates.) Because of that, he's been delayed, but we'll be getting a beta in a week w/ him playable.

Hasn't it technically only happened once, with Ibuki? I don't think they ever actually stated we'd have an April character, just the "next" one. (I may be wrong though.)

Fuck marvel. Hope fox can buy the complete rights to xmen than the other way around, no way would i watch a generic marvel xmen film. No matter how hard they push inhumans or whaever they called aint no way in hell are they going to be bigger than xmen

They never gave a date, but said we'd get a character every other month. Since Kolin was Feb, we should have had a character in April.

I'd guess the DLC characters for marvel are being developed alongside the base roster. I wouldn't think they would be late.

But it's Capcom, so....who knows.

Yes, would much rather they churn out such classics as X Men: Apocalypse and Fant4stic Four...

Bryan Singer needs to be kicked off Xmen and never come back. Yeah he helped set things in motion with the first Xmen. But these days he has just been holding thing back. It's a sad state of affairs when the solo movies like Deadpool and Logan are the best of the lot with nothing else even coming close.

There is a thread for it.

Thanks. I didn't know there was one.

You know, the more comments I read around the web, the more I get the feeling that people are overly negative. and don't want this game to do well. You get the sense that SFV has left some people so jaded that everything about Infinite is negative. I don't understand people sometimes.

Since its going to be on PS4, XBO and PC. The big question is which system will have the most players.

I like playing online and enjoying playing against a lot of different players. I want to get this on PC but if PS4 will have more then i may go that route.

So what is everyone getting this on

PS4 will have the largest playerbase.

People just like to complains and being so negative. I found it amusing that they kept telling people to not preorders in two different threads. Dude, why are you make it your business to tell people to preorder or not.

Are you implying that they would prioritize Marvel over SF?

That's crazy talk.
