Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster Discussion Thread

I suggested a 2 characters for $15 before, and I still think that would work.

1 Marvel and 1 Capcom character per DLC "pack". Throw in a stage and some alternate costumes as well.

It would also be wise to include one "popular" character with one less popular character. The less popular characters wouldn't sell as DLC, so you use the popular character to increase the attractiveness of the package. I don't know how well Nebula sells at $7.49, but Nebula and Wesker for $14.99? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

what dont you udnerstand? They are, or were until very recently, nearly bankrupt

Uh, how is releasing a game that has huge potential to fail in terms of sells beneficial to their financial status at all?

Because people won't just go out and buy the game simply because it's made by Capcom. Just look at SFV. Marvel's name alone will net them sales, but 2 million? I doubt it.

Capcom isn't broke, or nearly broke. They're just cutting corners and being half-assed.

Capcom has recovered from the whole Deep Down thing and what not. But they are definitely cutting corners as of late to try and stay very safe. It's part of why they aren't too mad when they miss projections. Since their current budgets are still netting them a profit. However this current trend is a far cry if they ever want to be the "EA" of japan as they have said in the past.

I think the majority would see a Wesker, Phoenix Wright, or Vergil as DLC and react with a, "WTF?! Why am I paying for this character that should be in the roster?" With new characters, it probably wouldn't be as bad, though a lot of people will question why Capcom wouldn't put these newcomers in the base roster.

Either way, Capcom has already pissed off a lot of people with SFV. Instead of rectifying matters with Infinite, they're looking to continue pissing off their fanbase with these strange decisions. I don't understand it.

It's like Capcom is purposely trolling us.

Either way, I could smell that their agenda is to make this game DLC heavy.

The roster needs to be at nothing less than 46 characters at this time next year, given all of the asset reuse.

I sure hope so. They need to bring back a lot of characters from MVC1 to 3 to make it enticing.

I was expecting Captain Commando, Jin or Leon. They are MIA.

So if this is accurate and you're adding a 6th Darkstalker to the game- (assuming Talbain, Hsien-Ko and Felicia are 3/4 slots) - who do you pick? Anakaris could be a cool comeback if you're not planning to do Sim in the XMen v SF pack.

That's what I was going to say. Putting Q in the roster? Looks like they're pulling me back in.
Honestly, the only reason I'm even humoring his Season 3 list is because of the Alex Valle tweet. As I've said elsewhere, it's not unlike how Season 2 leaked right under our noses.

It is pretty random that Alex would even tweet that haha. I'd just be surprised if he hadn't gotten in trouble for that if it's true, given how known he is in the FGC.

$15 for 2 characters...

Ayyy lmao!

Worst yet is being forced to buy the second character. Only the greedier of greedy corporate fucks will implement something like this.

Capcom are very much in the red, this was discussed last year on some bombcast. Why do you think SF5 was co-produced by Sony and it was still half assed. Why do you think RE7's scope is so small (and I love that game). Why do you think everything else they release are remasters?

I guess he didn't get in trouble because not many of us noticed until now. Plus he's a major person in the FGC who's been around for a while, so I'd assume he has some clout.

They're not in the red now, but the are being very greedy and risk averse. RE7's small scope was due to half the budget of that game needing to be used on the development of RE engine and still have something with said engine to push out relatively soon to recoup costs. The remaster stuff is in part on getting their engine done so they can go onto new projects. Since RE engine is supposed to basically be their new MT Framework. Also SFV was always going to get made, Sony just made it happen sooner than it would've. Though from the look of things it might've not been a bad thing if we had to wait.

That RE engine is nowhere near MT Framework.

Demitri of course. Him and Dante got along so well in Project X Zone so Id love to see them team up again.

See that's the part that I think makes it questionable. Alex Valle could have legit just named some random fucking characters to prove a point and said leaker used said random characters to conspiracy evidence to make his fake leak more believable. Same with the random piece of artwork.

If it's all true then damn this is the craziest leak ever, as it stands it seems to just be a very well done fake leak like the smash switch bitblock one.

Isn't Riku on GAF? I'm probably mistaken... But yeah I was thinking about it kind of like how you are. If it ends up being wrong the leaker can say he wasn't the only one who got bad info and can point out Alex Valle's tweet.

That said, the S3 list made me log back into SFV hahaha. I'm actually liking Ed. I will return to you, Injustice... don't you worry my sweet summer love child.

Back before Bendis' New Avengers, the group's membership wasn't really every Marvel character under the sun. Outside of the initial crossovers from the original Lee/Kirby run, they didn't take in all too many other heroes that were established in other books, though Spider-Man and 3/4ths of the FF joined for a hot second. After Bendis though, everyone and their mom joined in, and you'd be hard pressed to find non-GotG characters (Marvel seems to purposely keeping any of the core movie ones from being Avengers) who hadn't joined in. At this point I guess the most prominent ones would be Cyclops, Silver Surfer, and Magneto. Though to note, out of the rumor roster, only Dr. Strange, Nova, and sort-kinda Spider-Man wouldn't qualify as Avengers back before all the crossovers happened. Even under those conditions, the roster is very much slanted towards the Avengers.

I know all that. My point was that any game with many Marvel characters is bound to have plenty of Avengers members. Especially if there's no mutants. So complaining that half or more of the characters in an MCU-heavy non-X-Men roster is kind of silly, especially considering that at this point, many popular characters have been members of the Avengers,
including some of the more popular X-Men
.

i just realized that iron fist isnt in this game
man, wtf is this roster

that guy owns and has some of the sickest effects/animations in 3

Defenders DLC son. He isn't in the movies so of course he wasn't going to make it in with that small of a roster.

He will be back for sure.

Alright now time for some positivity and reflection... what do some of these characters actually play like?

I am most interested in Antman and Monster Hunter. People think Antman is boring because MCU but from a FG perspective it could be a ground breaking character. Being able to increase/decrease hitbox size on the fly is no joke and could lead to some shenanigans. I think his default state will still be regular size but he would change for special moves. I wonder if he would be summoning insects too.

Monster Hunter could be like a Melee Dante type character where he can use a ton of weapon but he may have added elements of having traps. Maybe Potions as well, I want to see something more than a dude using giant weapons. Hopefully he gets to summon Rat gals or something as a hyper.

As far as other characters go... I am hoping for extensive retooling of Thanos to be more of a space control character rather than ehatever the fuck he was in previous games. Gamorrah I expect to be mainly a balanced of swords Melee fighter with some long ranged guns and jet hoots for mobility. I am hoping for additional tools or mechanics to make her interesting.

The other question that is on everyone's mind is how they plan to do Jedah justice. This is going to be an EEEEsports game which means they can't get too graphic with the moveset. I hope they find a good middle ground.

Oh wait I think I am forgetting someo.. oh yes that's fucking right. Which Dante is it going to be? DMC1, DMC3 and DMC4 Dante all play the same but DMC4 Dante would actually be am down grade from DMC3 since DMC3 Dante actually has a bigger toolset. I feel like DMC3 Dante was already perfect and changing him to a different Dante would only downgrade him. I think they might want to make Dante a simpler character to use because he was extremely popular despite being hard to play. In that regard, I think they should use DMC1 Dante who would be a more fundamental based character.

Or you know Capcom can actually surpass my expectation for once and deliver us DMC5 Dante to double dip on the hype. Yes silly Dahbomb... expectations are for chumps, you will take your gutted copy/pasta DMC3 and you will like it.

I think the idea on the DLC is really odd. I don't see capcom doing full fledged VS seasons. Like the whole Darkstalkers VS FF or Ace Attorney VS Xmen.

That's just putting all your eggs in one basket and then making way too many of some of these franchises. I feel like they'll stick with the mix and match that we'll probably see in the first 6 characters.

Easiest way to sell the DLC and offer something for everyone. Though I will say if there are themes they'll probably be regulated to the Marvel side.

It's too early to tell since this game is still in development and not fully realized yet until we see more.

But I can see that Tekken 7 and Injustice 2 were made with love, while this game sounds like it's being made with corporate influences controlling everything. It's like how MCU vs DCEU is, but in the reverse. There's always corporate interests controlling things in every game, but its just very blatant here.

It's been a very good year for fighters so far, but unfortunately MVC:I seems to be at the lower end of the spectrum when its contending with 2 great fighters. (from what we've seen so far at least)

I don't think fighting games are big enough for anyone to be able to pull off the scummy "barebones games + shit load of DLC" strategy.

Free to play mobile games are a whole different animal. Marvel contest of champions doesn't compare to this.

Basically they pulled it off with destiny. AAAA FPS from fucking activision and blizzard. That's it.

From the FB page, Twitter, and various other sites, Infinite is getting trashed....hard.

I really wonder what Capcom is thinking as they're assessing this right now.

Right before E3 at that. Feels bad.

They're probably praying that whatever they have for E3 turns things around. Though really, unless they show a character not from the list to surprise people they won't fix it. They'll get some support showing off Jeddah, MonHun, Gamora, and another newcomer. But it'll turn around when people realize that means the leak is real.

And we thought Capcom is smart enough after SF V but no. They rather go to the path that irritates gamers instead of making them happy.
