Even though it also promoted the SF Zero series, the X-men side featured various fan favourites-
Gambit, Rogue, Wolverine, Storm, Juggernaut, Magneto, as well as a badass Sabretooth.

As someone who loved X-Men CotA I was not bummed by any omissions and enjoyed the game as is.
 
I do think it's important to remember that a good number of folks were critical of MVC3 precisely because it was too nutty, and Infinite seems to fit more in line with that preference. I personally wanted a followup to MVC3 so was naturally a bit upset with MVCI's reveal, but with DBF announced I'm actually a lot less salty about Marvel now and pysched that I have the option I originally wanted. We get the best of both worlds for both tastes. Bigger emphasis on neutral with Infinite, bigger emphasis on scumbaggery with DBF.

All Marvel 3 needed was 1 stupid little patch to remove the infinites, fix Morrigan, and little characters tweaks. It's a perfect game in my book.

MvC3 Dante is the greatest fighting game character of all time. Neo_G, you are sorely missed.

Losing Shinji Mikami and Inafune was a big deal. Hideki Kamiya was definitely expendable.

What it all comes down to is the incompetence and nepotism at the upper management levels, though. Rolling Clover back into the company and moving Mikami up to Inafune's position in charge of their game portfolio and Inafune to the board of directors was probably their shot to keep the momentum and they missed it.
 
And TvC was always regarded as Marvel-lite and a beta for the real VS game sequel which was Marvel 3. That game is actually pretty good. It's also a great example of the shadow that is cast by the major versus games of Marvel 2 and 3.
 
As for the "legacy" of the Marvel series, honestly DBFZ just took what made those games great IMO. All it has now are the brands attached. The brand isn't what I think of when I think of a Marvel vs fighter. It's the diverse roster, assists, tag mechanics and bombastic out of control hyper craziness that came with it. I just don't see it with this new one.

Inafune was a double edged sword cause he made some amazing games but he is the main reason Devil May Cry where its at. Kamiya should have been kept around.
 
I am still excited for new game play today.

Maybe we finally get to see the incoming situation in the game and full length matches among players who know what they are doing.

The Tag system is still ripe for the creation of tech and tactics.
 
OK so after all these rumored leak lists, what're we expecting the roster to be contain? I've kinda cleared my mind out when it comes to the roster, so who are being expected to be in the game?

Look up Ryce's leak, those are the Day 1 characters.
 
XvSF's roster was really cool at the time because it added 4 brand new characters (Gambit, Sabertooth, Rogue, and Cammy), 2 newly playable ones (Juggernaut and Magneto), and the first use of the tag system. For what it is, it's a great roster following up MSH.

MSHvSF's roster is really not good. Zero new characters, palate swaps galore (with secret characters), and a very boring low-damage game. MvC came around and made the vs series great again, but MSHvSF is probably the worst roster thus far.

And 7 meters, and teleports for roman cancels, and homing dashes, and no incoming character mixups with round changes to neutral position upon character deaths, and tag mixups like MVCI is trying to replace assists with, and parry like perfect guards...

It has enough to make a difference. Dragonball FighterZ is more than just a brand attachment. Its doing a lot of quality of life work there.

I really wish MVCI had assists now more than ever. Considering its only things were the gems and tag shenanigans and DBFZ has half of that I really think its gonna need to step up its game. As is, MVCI cut out a lot of stuff to replace it with new things, where as DBFZ kept all the old stuff, plus the new MVCI tag stuff, plus added even more on top.

Marvel better kill it with their roster at this point.

As someone whose been lurking around these thread, some of you need to tone it way down until we see more to form a solid opinion.

Was the reveal disappointing? Absolutely but games with bad initial showings have turned out well. Does the leaked roster sound weak? Sure but its not officially confirmed either. Does modern Capcom have a terrible track record with quality games? Without a doubt.

With that said we've seen very little of the game. Theres a lot of missing info and naturally, Ive seen people go on long rants about how disappointed they are. Thats fair and all but also means little considering how little we've seen and know of the game at this point in time.

All Im saying is, save your disappointment and assumptions and emotions until we've had a better look at the game which will no doubt be tonight.

Well MvSf did have one new character...just only in Japan

Growing up, my local area was swarming with MvSF machines for some reason, and it was rare to see anything else.

This is a pretty common opinion, but I think a misunderstanding. Inafune isn't a creator, he didn't design DmC. His idea was to expand Capcom by licensing out their underutilized IPs and creating new IPs through external studios. This way they can remain flexible without having to hire and train massive amounts of staff internally. It minimizes risk while allowing their business to grow, especially in major markets like the west. For somebody whose job was to manage IPs, he was definitely an under budget and ahead of schedule type of guy while also bringing new ideas in constantly.


As for Kamiya, everybody thinks he's some kind of design god, but when you look at his track record you really see how much failure is in there. His RE2 was garbage so it got scrapped and saved by Mikami, his RE4 was garbage so he had to turn it into DMC. Okami was beautiful but with terrible pacing. He didn't know what to do when he got to Platinum so he just made DMC again and an RTS with Viewtiful Joe characters. His dragon game was so garbage that Microsoft canned it despite having no other foothold in Japan.

What it comes down to is that Hideki Kamiya accidentally invented the modern character action game with DMC and outside of that he can only really be counted on for quirky, mediocre-to-good budget games. With how often his projects are an apparent mess behind the scenes I'm surprised his reputation is as good as it is.

I'll believe it when I see it but honestly...yeah he's probably told us all we're getting which isn't a stellar launch. At least its not releasing directly besides DBFZ. I'm gonna play both for sure, but MVCI is gonna need better roster stuff later for me to stick around at this rate. Just not enough exciting choices there. I will hopefully get my wish of a stellar Ultron/Jedah team though. I'm really hoping to enjoy them as a pair. Not certain which gem I'll use but knowing me I'll go with Space and rock teleports and shame cube BS because ultron drones and that cube sound delicious to me.

Gameplay for MvC:I looked great. Roster is eh, but the new characters on Marvel side will be cool for me. As long as the game is fun to play, I'm cool with sticking around for DLC to flesh that out.

Totally get people being down, but gameplay looks tight to me. Never liked playing 3v3, even though I love watching both MvC2 and 3. 2v2 is what I grew up playing, so I'm glad they're going back to it.

What good ideas did Inafune bring to Capcom that helped them when he was Global Head of Production? All of what you said didn't have any positive affect on the company, actually that time period is when their decline became visible. His track record since he left Capcom hasn't been good either.

I'm w/ you on this. for ME it always been about the hype gameplay. I will miss 3v3 but im still hype for both MvCI and the DBZ fighter.

I don't think Capcom "messed up" with SFV completely as it's still one of the most popular fighters right now in terms of player base, competition and viewership. Of course thier launch was bad but they have improved a lot since then and are continuing to grow. With MvCi, despite it's shoddy presentation, still has the potential to give us unique and solid gameplay with some good casual content, so I think we should wait to see how it pans out.

I love Dragonball as much as the next guy and I'm looking forward to the game, however I think a lot of childhood nostalgia for that series and "Mahvel-assist-syndrome" is taking place at the moment that seems to be clouding people's judgement on a) hoping the game meets their requirements and expectations simply because it's DB and b) it has assists so therefore it must mean it's a better game because learning a new MvC game with new mechanics is scary.

I also think that the gameplay looks fine and the gems system sounds really cool. It's really the roster decisions that upset me and how the game looks visually. I understand that you can't please everybody with the initial roster but shit they could have done better. Visually the game looks low budget, they need to clean it up and complete change the hud that looks amateurish.
 
I mean I hope this DBZ game forces Capcom to step their shit up. Competition is good because it forces others to step up or be left behind. Capcom getting too complacent thinking they still have the staying power in esports and the main game at evo..

Also everyone remember​ how pissed people were when UmvC 3 leak showed no new female characters in the roster?

They kinda do. Unless everyone in the FGC bands together to rebel against Capcom & the CPT, I don't see that changing. And even then, such a rebellion would benefit Smash more than the others (since they're the ones right behind SF).

Rogue and Cammy's themes are my favorites. Cyclops and Gambit come closer.

While I side with you largely on this, I'll admit...I'm still very hurt that Black Panther isn't looking to be a part of the base roster. Along with X, he's one of the ones I most expected to be in this game and who I was gunning to play Day 1, myself.

They really expecting kats to buy the game after seeing the movie, then be willing to cough up extra on top to play BP, huh? It boggles the mind...

If you watch something with this attitude, you will 100% be disappointed. As with most people in this thread who decided to hate the game weeks ago (despite barely knowing anything about the game at all), there ain't nothing Capcom can possibly show that will make y'all like this game at this point.

DBF came out of no where with no expectations, no pressure. Everything they do is a bonus, because it didn't even exist to us a few days ago.

But, a new MAHVEL game? All sorts of requirements, demands, history, and expectations. If the the leak roster doesn't have our wishlist faves, it's trash (despite being filled with some of the most popular, recognizable characters from both Marvel and Capcom). No assists? Trash. Different control scheme? Trash. 2v2 instead of 3v3? Trash.

Most of the complaints about MvCi stem from expectations...something DBF doesn't have to deal with at all.

The reaction that the BP trailer got last weekend, Capcom/Marvel will definitely make him DLC.
Kind of scummy but we all know that Capcom is about that DLC money now.
