He was definitely in the realm of being quirky but in a good way. I wouldn't mind seeing him return in a future SF.

I honestly loved him, one of my mains in SF4. That slide -> splash was so good. And he looked amazing in pink.

No, not Hakan.....the other thing. I'd take Firebrand over Poison, Elena, E. Ryu, Akuma, El Fuerte, Rufus, probably Bison, probably Seth, Ibuki, probably Rose, Sagat, Cammy, Sakura etc.

to each his own, but I'd take all of those over fucking Firebrand in a heart beat.

I like Street Fighter. a lot.

Capcom is poor. Every Ultimate character will be in Infinite because they don't have to start from scratch.

Not sure why people can't wrap their hands around that.

Except the women. Almost every woman from MVC3 is gone.

Tbonne
Trish
Viper
Dog
Hsienko
Felicia
Jill
Even Wright/Maya

Shehulk
X23
Phoenix
Storm

Then the most used Capcom characters like Wesker and Virgil gone.

But Arthur and Firebrand make it back. Just amazing how they went straight for the bottom of the barrel with what they could have used from MVC3.

They'll all come in time. It's just far faster and cheaper than starting from scratch and Capcom is all about that.

As for why Wesker and Vergil aren't day 1, it doesn't take a genius to figure that out.

"Why was Akuma DLC and not Birdie!"

Max talked about how it'd be good for Capcom to consider giving some future DLC characters away for free in order to bring some goodwill back to the company. I think something like that would work wonders, but I don't see it happening. At all.

Well that was my suggestion too. Would be wise, but that just means it's not gonna happen of course

The thread is devolving.

That will never happen. Ever.

Even if somehow Capcom decided to do that, Marvel would never sign off on it.

Free heroes wouldn't matter. Capcom has made so many massive errors over the last two generations that they just need to consistently demonstrate goodwill for their fanbase for a long time to wash it away.

I honestly loved him, one of my mains in SF4. That slide -> splash was so good. And he looked amazing in pink.

You can't have more than one main, sir.

It definitely would not be a bad thing to give out some free characters post release, possibly transplants from UMVC3. People would likely be very salty about them trying to sell those characters separately anyway so if you wanted to bring them over, it may need to be through a free dlc plan.

Imagine trying to sell the X-men as dlc after saying no one remembers the x-men.

Out of all of the excuses they could have used, all the avoidance they could have done, the gymnastics that they could have easily performed, Peter "Combofied" Rosas and Mike "Street Fighter X Mega Man looks fun" Evans chose to dismiss the characters completely, claim noone remembers them and "reduce" them to "functions".

What weird-ass PR gaffe, especially since before that interview they'd been so on point with saying "Marvel does not prohibit us to use any characters!".

yes they do. And if they said that, that is actually 100 times worse than the whole "Magneto is a funcion thing" in my opinion.

Because the later is, much like you say, a gaffe. When put on the spot, Combofiend fucked up and gave a silly ass reason for no X-Men because he cant say the real reason even tho we all know the real reason, to the point where I actually think that anyone that asks that to any marvel game developer is being kind of a dick, go ask Marvel directly, dont ask the devs that cant do shit about it.

But saying that "we can use any character" is flat out lying because they obviously cant, as proven by the roster, or by Lego Marvel 2's roster, or by Marvel Heroes recent F4 purge, etc etc.

a- are we pop-gaf now?

I mean, yeah, it's shitty but chances are they weren't lying by saying that, it's just that they can only use them in DLC.

Oh well, I'm more hyped for Dragonball Fighters Z anyway. I just can't get over the return of certain characters that the majority of fans didn't really have much love for. I could even look past the lack of X-Men characters but they could have included more fresh faces.

Who the fuck asked for Frank/Nemesis/Arthur? I just can't understand.

First I think I should clarify that I never said anything about Hakan being a bad choice.

In fact...I think I'll edit this list down a bit now that I've given it some thought.

I've thought about it, and I don't know about this anymore. It is true that I don't really care for Street Fighter having a presence in MvC games, since I feel that non-fighting game (or "classic"/obscure/90s fighting games like Cyberbots and stuff) that we don't get to see much should take precedence over SF mainstays. Though I wouldn't mind seeing Viper return, among other SF characters like maybe Urien or a crazy MVC Q. Just not a ton of them.

I suppose Dudley (or Balrog) sincewe've never had a boxer in an MVC game, (though I'd prefer Dudley) and Rolento could be interesting. Nash as Shadow or his SFV version maybe as well. Took Bison off my "Rather would have Firebrand" list because he is the main SF villain and they could do something crazy with psycho power in his moves. And it would be interesting to see him interacting with the Marvel and Capcom cast.

Vanilla SF4 Newcomers were ass, even Viper before her resurrection in Marvel (the game she was made for not named KoF).

Super SF4 newcomers (Juri and Hakan), however, were baller af. Either should be in, preferably Juri. Though Viper coming back wouldn't be a bad thing either.

A point could definitely be made that Nemesis shouldn't have been a priority

But Dead Rising as a franchise has been a Capcom staple since the HD era began, so there's not a lot of room to question Frank's inclusion over a lot of the less relevant/noteworthy characters that people want

Also it is BANANAS to see so many people salty about Arthur when he was universally considered one of the coolest new additions to MvC3 on the Capcom side (the hype when he first got revealed was really something)

Aim that salt at Firebrand, Arthur deserves his spot

Frank is the most recognizable character from one of Capcom's' major franchises.
Nemesis is the second most recognizable RE villain and one of the most iconic monsters in gaming.
Arthur is the main character of one of Capcom's most classic franchises alongside Mega Man and Street Fighter.

And for the record, I wanted Nemesis and Arthur back.

I understand why Frank and Arthur would get in even though I'm not planning to play either of them. Nemesis though...I mean I guess I could see a reasonable rationale for him getting in if the roster was bigger but in the current state, hell no.

Especially when it's so obvious that Capcom is only putting him there instead of Wesker as the RE villain rep so they can milk their audience for DLC.

the more i think about it, the more i feel that wesker wouldn't feel right without smooth movement in the game anyways

the dude is like 80% smooth movement in his appeal gameplay wise, which adds to the whole cool/slick factor of the character himself and that can't really carry over in a game where you can't even cancel opposite direction dashes into each other

That really bothers me the more that I think about it. I know this strategy isn't a surprise to anyone, but the idea alone just sounds like a disaster.

One major reason, no pun intended, for Nemesis' inclusion is probably that he's the Capcom side's heavy half-grappler character.

You know who would be cool as a big character?

Garr

He's got size, a spear, fire magic, and he looks awesome.

Sure but it takes 25 years (see USF2)

So what you're saying is the only way we're gonna get a complete game is if it's a rehash of a game released in 2008 which itself was a rehash of a 1994 game which itself was the 5th iteration of a game released in 1991.

Capcom has been lazy pretty much since their inception. From street fighter 2s balance changes rather than new games, to Mega Man going thru virtually no changes after 3.

Heck, most of their new ideas all stemmed off of Mikami trying different things with resident evil, clover studios, and inafune pushing weird stuff like Dead Rising. Actually, digging deeper Mikami was mostly responsible for the come stuff. Phoenix wright, for example, only came about because Mikami gave Shu Takumi 6 months to create whatever kind of Fame he wanted.

Agreed as far as Arthur is concerned. His spot is totally deserved. He was one of the early faces of Capcom with Megaman in the NES, Genesis/SNES days.

Firebrand just seems like overkill with how tight the roster competition is.

I'm totally in favor of Arthur being in the game. Ghouls and Ghosts is a classic series and having a character from that is nice. Firebrand... eh, he gets in on a fairly unique gameplay style. Plus he did have his own spinoff series.

Honestly, the only Capcom character I'm a bit iffy on is Nemesis. I get having a huge character in the game and all, but still... The initial cast are likely going to be the story mode people and I just don't see Nemesis do anything remotely useful for that. His role is big scary monster and he's very good at that. But compare that to say... Wesker as a character. And I don't even like Wesker, but he's at least fun to hate. Nemesis is just boring at best.

I am getting a little tired of seeing Strider matches, but since Max likes the dude and that's more or less the main/only gameplay videos we get these days, it's fair enough. I just wish there were more videos without Strider in them now. I want to see what the rest of the cast, except Nemesis, can do.

Firebrand and Nemesis are gonna be nothing more than villain fodder. They can't even talk.
It's more that no one speaks Firebrand. Honestly that could be fun if someone actually understood him. I would not exactly put it beyond Morrigan or Jedah to speak Demon.
