Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster |DT2| oh dear...

When did Niitsuma say he rejected Marvel's request to include the Punisher? I don't remember that.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-01-25-mvc3-netcode-balance-and-rejects-interview?page=2

Also, there were some characters that Marvel wanted, but we couldn't really approve because of overlap in types. There's a character in Fantastic Four called Thing. He is basically another Hulk to our eyes when it comes to this game, so we couldn't really have both of them in it. Also, Punisher overlapped with Chris in terms of their role and the atmosphere.

From bad google translating his twitter it doesn't look like he's doing much of anything except playing Breath of the Wild, talking about MVCI and DBZF, and meeting up with the MVC3/UMVC3 team

Wait, Marvel wanted Thing in the game? Haha how ironic considering their stance on the team now

Weird how Thing was mentioned again as a rival for Gunrock in that MVCI interview.

This game screams to have alt-character skins like Injustice where you have a reskin of an existing character with a different voice set and effects on their attacks that otherwise plays the same.

Punisher would be a great one for Chris.

The way it was translated for me was that one person from the image he posted previously was on the RE team, not he himself was on it.
He himself was in the image that he posted, along with other people from the UMvC3 team.

Niitsuma -> Resident Evil team
Kadowaki (Producer) -> Monster Hunter team
Nara (Director) -> design team big shot [he worked on SFV and is probably working on MvCI]
Mr. Kawakami (Marvel intermediary) -> Capcom USA
Pete -> localization team big shot
Neo_G -> left for SNK (haha)

Well, that does make more sense

One day Capcom will realize that having clone characters in marvel vs Capcom is completely ok

Even with a cinematic focus, I'm still kinda surprised Marvel really isn't trying to push their latest forms of characters more in this game. Or maybe it's that both companies focus way, WAY more on what DLC does for titles now.

A character like Silk would fit so well along someone like Strider Hiryu, visually. Could they not have snuck in some very DOOM stuff with Infamous "Ironman"? Iron Fist has a new book out, Inhumans is getting TV series, Agents of SHIELD is way better than it has any right to be (I like it more than many of the movies)... So why do SO many roster slots in this game seem dedicated to rehashes and lamenting no X-men / FF?

It doesn't make me hate this game or anything, but it's just odd that the image the comics give off, VS what this game does, are so different.

For what its worth, when developing TVC, Niitsuma said he deliberately choose Mega Man Volnutt over Arthur.

http://dengekionline.com/elem/000/000/234/234680/index-2.html

I guess the idea is that they're both short jump n' shoot retro characters with a lot of projectiles. Niitsuma and his crew were always notoriously choosy over what characters got in and they made sure there was no overlap between any fighters whatsoever. For example, they rejected Marvel's request of including the Punisher because they already had Chris as their weapon expert.

To be honest, I thought Arthur was a bit fucked when X was revealed, because of the tidbit above. Didn't help that they gave X a somewhat similar armor special.

Same here. I thought Arthur were gone but I'm so glad that they got leaked so I don't have to worry about them any longer.

I do think it meant good things how they would select the characters for future inclusions since they don't allow the moves overlaps to prevent characters despite I want more variety in the game. Hopefully it meant good things for future characters.

What's funny about this is that things like it would've made the game fun. Instead we got Dry Fighter V.

That definitely would not have made SF5 better. It's okay in Marvel since there are movement options to get around it. You start putting that in SF, then you may as well be making another fighter.

Not really a huge fan of X's moveset. Makes me wonder if he'd have a more fleshed out set of tools if the MVC3 team designed him.

Fully agreed. His moveset feels a bit limited and he doesn't have one super that looks impressive to me. He should be a character with as many options as Zero, but Zero feels much more complete as a character adaptation.

Where's my Giga Attack, Capcom?

At least you can't argue that fireballs were weak in that iteration of SFV.

So what you're saying is that X and Zero are accurate depictions of the X series.

X's move set makes me want to use him more (well, OK I would've wanted to anyway). I like that he can fill the screen and do double motions for EX style variations.

I feel like X isn't really accurate to the source material. When you think of X, you think of a character with a huge arsenal of weapons. He doesn't need to be Dante, but he needs to have a well-rounded moveset.

Outside of his 4 Maverick weapons, he can't charge any of them to use more powerful versions. He can't even charge his Buster while moving. Zero can, Classic can in MVC1/2, but X can't. That's a strange omission for a character like X, since that's something he's always done. I just feel like they dropped the ball on X big time. That's not to say he's bad. I just would've liked more variety compared to what we got.

What's really funny is that everyone complained like crazy when they first saw this.

In other words, no matter what they did, leave it or remove it, someone would have claimed that the other way was better...as evidenced by your post.

I mean...Chun's fireballs there look just like CCs from A2 and A3 (kind of...have to be closer to cancel them so quickly, so you wouldn't be able to use them like this). And I don't know I've ever heard anybody say that Alpha 2 and 3 are BETTER because of Custom Combos, lol. People generally like them in spite of CCs.

X is front and center on the box art and appears to be the most important Capcom character in the story, so Capcom probably wants him to be palatable for new players (like Ryu and Captain America). I don't think it's a coincidence that Capcom added a bunch of new stuff to Zero while simultaneously designing a limited, Shoto-esque move set for X. X is there to learn the ropes, and Zero is there if you want to do crazier stuff.

Just like their roles in the X games. That's actually super awesome and impressive. :')

I played Zero May Cry in UMvC3 so I'm probably either gonna play X/Zero or Dante/Zero unless Monster Hunter is awesome and the glove fits. Glad Mega Man, especially the X series is getting some love this time around.

What are everyone's guesses for the other 4 new dlc characters?
These are just hunches:
  • Green Goblin (Comic-Con tease, two Spider-Man variant covers)
  • Loki (most popular MCU villain, two Thor variant covers)
  • Lady (Dante lost his Kalina Ann moves, I feel like at least 1 of the 6 DLC characters must be female)
  • Gill (to put Street Fighter on par with Mega Man, almost made the cut for UMvC3)

Spider-Man, Gamora, Rocket, & Groot, too. Though before, Marvel just sent their cartoon VAs to New Generation Pictures to record for (U)MvC3.

I ran out of time before I got to write the rest, but it does show that there is alot of VAs being carried over to keep the feel of the Marvel characters (again minus Capt America I believe).

I kinda hope that Green Goblin and Lady are revealed at the same time, or she has something related to her father to say to Norman. Arkham and Norman are kinda similar (plus Mary and Harry)

Betting Ant-Man, Green Goblin, Lady, Asura.

But really who the fuck knows. I think there's pretty weak evidence all around. At least in terms of actually predicting what Capcom will do, not what we think they'll do.

I wonder if the day will ever come where Capcom will stop saying "Well, we can't do X character because Y"

Just put the cool characters in and don't think so hard about it. I want a Marvel vs Capcom with a roster that rivals Dragon Ball Heroes in number.

This is true, it definitely could've been toned down but still there. It's not broken if other characters have similarly powerful abilities. Though I get that it's Street Fighter and is not meant to be over the top.

SF is supposed to be dry. Flashy is Marvel's thing. SF is for gentlemen who don monocles and top hats to play, Marvel is for monkeys smoking cigars.
