Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster |DT2| oh dear...

It's worth remembering that characters may be planned for DLC down the road and not just in the first flight.

So it's entirely possible that even if Winter Soldier (for example) is an NPC in the Story Mode, he may not be dlc until later.

Look at Ed and Kolin in SFV as an example.

Having Bucky but not Venom would be weird as fuck.

Considering that Venom doesn't exist in the MCU (or at least not at the moment), it wouldn't be weird at all to consider. Hell, I wonder how many people knew about Winter Soldier until just recently. You could argue that if you have followed the comics, sure you know Bucky, but for more casual followers, all we knew about Bucky was that he exploded when Capt got frozen, the end.

Then suddenly we see him in the movies, and he becomes rather prominent in the Marvel shows under Disney's watch. In that sense alone, you can also argue that Venom would be a safe bet too since we have seen him (in different forms mind you) with Spiderman in the Disney shows (and that's also not counting the leaked roster and the supposed "Symbiote" NPCs that you will probably fight in the game's story mode (if that is true of course).

A few days after launch with people actually having the game in their consoles and a training mode to test stuff.

The game is going to look way different from what we are seeing now when people get actual lab time on it. That means actual combos, actual mix ups/resets, actual tag set ups, better application of surges/storms, better movement and better application of mechanics like advancing guard.

Not to mention we would actually know frame data so none of this guessing about what is punishable and what isn't.

I could see a Kolin of Ed situation happening for Bucky if he's not playable on Day 1 or Season 1.

Can't wait. I love the under two months away from release feels where you analyze the meta and all your options so when you jump in you already kind of know what you're doing.

Shuma Gorath WILL return.

He better

Please

After hearing about how Capcom had to throw a tantrum for him in 3 probably not ;_;

I wouldn't mind Shuma being promoted to being an actual final boss of a MVC game. Maybe him infecting both universes like the Many Angled Ones did during the Thanos Imperative (Think it was called that)

And Shuma was initially only allowed under the condition that he was DLC.

The chances are almost negative at this point :/

This would be a dream come true considering how in-universe he's nigh unkillable.

I'm curious how Capcom even got that....thing, in Marvel Super Heroes in the first place. He isn't exactly a notable villain in the comics, and is just overall weird.

I think they saw a picture of him in one of the Marvel Encyclopedias and thought he would be a cool character to make a moveset for, so they asked if Marvel would let them use him. Marvel....really didn't care at the time.

Blackheart made it in the same way

He'll get in, somehow. CoJ has some weird boner for him and this roster won't be limited like 3s was, In that they'll be constantly dumping characters as DLC

The legend says back then Marvel was in financial troubles so they were less picky about their licences, they handed Capcom an encyclopedia of characters and said "go nuts", the peeps at Capcom just picked any character they thought would have cool moves without thinking of notoriety or whatever, so once they had their bases covered with spidey, cap, wolverine, hulk and ironman they just went with obscure but cool picks like Shuma (who up until like 2009 wouldn't show in comic book pics if you google him, just game screenshots!) Blackheart and Psylocke.

Is it weird that BIonic Commando dude is even in this game? Seems like a weird call back for Capcom.

Any chatter on Punisher?

We all know why Spencer came back.

Combo Fiend probably asked for him and he has the reach function.

He sure didn't come back based on popularity from the masses. Though I will say his game did finally pass 1 million in sales.

Your explanation makes the most sense, and quite honestly, Marvel needs to be a bit more flexible with what they can offer in their hero pool to Capcom. I would love to see what they could do with Cloak & Dagger as a dual-character.

Psylocke was probably a hold over from Children of the Atom. While it would have made more sense to go with Storm if you needed at least one female from that game, she was (kinda) Japanese, so maybe that's why they went with her in MSH. I do believe Capcom's gone on record saying that they added Shuma in specifically because he was one of the only non-humanoid characters in the Marvel Handbook they were given, and they didn't want the whole roster to be guys in tights. I kind of think they went with Blackheart just because he looked cool, but I also don't think his inclusion was ever commented on, and unlike Shuma he isn't really questioned that much.

I wish marvel still didn't care.

hmm....I wonder how excited we would have been over the Spider-man/Deadpool cover if it hadn't been leaked. I think we'd wonder why they're keeping it so secret and nobody would have thought it would be Dorm/Firebrand.

I honestly didn't even know he was a Doctor Strange villain at first. I just thought Capcom really wanted to sneak a lovecraftian horror into their fighting game.(MvC3 was my first with the series)

I do have more of an interest in Doctor Strange now, though.

She was picked because she won some obscure Japanese popularity contest they held for CotA vets.

God this game's soundtrack is trash. I like every Capcom fighter's soundtrack from the last 2 generations (and this one will probably still have a few gems) but this time there really hasn't been anything to stand out. I get the impression the Capcom themes have been remixed so many times that they're out of ideas for what to do with them anymore (some of them are still good, it's pretty hard to ruin Ryu's theme for example), and whoever's fault the new Marvel side's themes are made a terrible, terrible call.

It's just another one of those things that we should be excited for but they haven't given us any reason to be.

I know we should wait until the game is out. But I gotta say. Devil's Never Cry isn't sounding too hot atm. If you turn it up the chorus sounds way off. Like they're bored.

I know the MVC3 isn't some people's favorite. But I think it did a really good job of using both.

Oh man, they sound like they're just talking in unison. :|

Welp, RIP Infinite. /s

Between the roster and the music, it's clear that Marvel gives zero fucks about this series' legacy.

This sounds right to me. I can't imagine Capcom would remix all those MSH and MvC1 themes for Marvel 3 and then say "this time let's make the Marvel side's theme music all generic and indistinguishable from each other". If there were an option to play the classic themes instead I would turn it on first thing when I boot the game up.

Ironic that Marvel Entertainment is hell-bent on molding MvCI's Marvel side after the MCU when Marvel Studios broke away from Marvel Entertainment not too long ago to avoid Perlmutter.
