Dante is really good and top tier but ppl kinda buy into weird ideas of what that means. He's very versatile tho, so if you keep at it you can often plug him with other characters you might be interested in learning

I would be less mad at Dante if it wasn't for how they made everything safe except 3 moves and let him funny convert off of every stray hit and he gets standard or better damage without any of his previous difficulty or any weaknesses at all. Power like that should come at some kind of cost.

Remember when you had to bold cancel just to combo something after Stinger? Good times. If he was like that for these combos then honestly i really wouldn't be mad, but with these Dante players you can see them panic buttoning, you can see them mashing but you just can't do much about it.

Yeah like the only weakness he has is that some of his buttons are slower than a lot of characters? But then you just get good at spacing which is easy with his big ass normals....which you can make safe with bold cancels.

Not sure what they were thinking with his whole moveset in this game when they ported it over.

He can also randomly convert off throws by himself now too. Like...why lol

Dante players thinking they putting in work but it's literally just do all ur specials until u get that hit because there's gaps in his moves, random af cross ups and I mean TRULY RANDOM AF, do that one air gun move into hammer (ur rarely blocking this cause he switches sides like 10 times during this shit) etc. I can keep going but you said it best.

Before anyone says I'm salty, NO IM NOT lmao. It's just a lil absurd and I could pick Dante too if it really bothered me.

For example, I played Zero/Dante to see how much of a drastic impact it would have like I said I would and WOW. I literally played Dante for like half hour to an hour and I was beating or at least giving players a lot of trouble who would bop me when I wasn't using Dante.

The main point of it all is to JUST PICK A TOP TIER.

Opposing Dante whiffs rando prop shredder. You try to whiff punish. You get clipped by prop shredder into a full combo. What do you do?
 
Been labbing it up with my Monster Hunter/Dante team these past couple days and it's a super fun combination. It's fun to play a character that's new to the Marvel vs. Capcom series.
 
Yeah, it's annoying that Dante can convert off of damn near every single one of his huge arsenal of moves by himself.

I also fucking HATE his spinny-gun-shoot-down-in-the-air move in this game. Like wtf does it cross up? Does it hit high? I feel like I never know and get tagged by it in so many times where I feel like I should have blocked. And it leads into a full combo by his partner or by himself if he's low enough.

That's part of the reason why he's OP in this game. Much lower execution bar means far fewer drops. Even pros would drop Clay Pigeon loops (needed for max damage) in 3. I also have no idea why Dante converts off ground throws in this game.

Nah, he's not ass. Other characters are just in the spotlight right now because of their obvious strengths. X's strengths are less obvious. I've been playing him since launch, and I actually think he's pretty damn good, and he has a lot of potential. Not even close to playing him as optimal as I can yet.
 
Yeah I've been seeing lots of Dantes in these pro matches. At least he looks better now with DmC Dante and I legit didnt see him last time I played and I was in at least 20 matches. I'm sure my mmr is rock bottom etc just for perspective so I'm sure you high rank gafs see nothing but meta at top tier I dont envy you (well beyond being good enough to be high rank)

Why would anyone with money on the line pick someone that's "decent / pretty good" when there's so many characters that are "great"?

Seeing how faithful Zero and Sigma are to the source material and are still super versatile just makes X's moveset all the more disappointing. I can think of two things that I'd like added to make him more like his games but don't see happening would be improving his air mobility with 8 way dash / flight mode and unifying his Buster functions with his Special Weapon system.

Nearly every game in the X series gave X enhanced air mobility. X3, X6, X8 gave multi-directional air dashes and X4, X5, X7, X8 gave X flight modes. I don't know how much this would help him but the boy could really use tools for the air besides X Buster (that doesn't have any follow up options like the ground version).

Being on the SNES and PS1 with four face buttons now, X could still use his regular buster while also having a special weapon equipped instead of one or the other like Classic Mega Man. So it's strange to me that his Buster and Special Weapon functions are two disconnected systems. Considering X in his games is very projectile heavy, it's really strange that Zero and Sigma are better at space control than him. So I think it'd be better if you could cancel buster shots into a special weapon and vice versa.

Limit them to the Light Armor install for balance issues and to make his install more distinct but I'd just like X to be closer to his source material and have more options to his gameplan. But I bet the best we'll get in patches will be classic Capcom "buffs" like "Point blank buster starts 1F faster! Gamechanger!". Maybe an "Ultimate" version for season 2 will make X a bit more imaginative and faithful.
 
I don't why you guys are salty that Dante is super safe on everything. He was safe on everything in MVC3 too because of Bold cancel. That is a key part of his playstyle. Just like Zero can cover his stuff with Buster.

No surprise people most salty over Dante were Zero or Morrigan players in 3 (ie. Absurdly safe characters). Check your priveleges!

Dante definitely OP though but safety and combo ability are a core aspect of Dante since 3. What's not the core aspect of Dante is instant high/lows. The stotgun puts him over the top.

Pretty much. The game's playstyle fits Dante especially without assists.

I run Zero/X a lot and he’s pretty fun, not the best but not bad. Really easy to keep him in armor since it lasts so long, and you can get some good buster shenanigans going with command dash tech. The double buster hyper is a great counter, seems to steamroll through most everything.
 
Eh I think Dante was pretty damn high tier in UMVC3 but you had to work for his conversions there to get a handsome reward. Man's got every tool except a quick normal but his setups and approach are pretty strong, and power stone completes his arsenal -- where's the tradeoff? Thought he was the perfect model of what a top tier should be in Ultimate. Morrigan too; insane chip on soul fist aside, hit-persistent missiles just put her over the top.

He's not Vanilla 3 level but he gets pretty facerolly at times in Infinite. Nova style face roll. But that's marvel.

I know Zero is dumb but with Buster fixed he's not *as* bullshit and pretty fair game in marvel imo. Dorm just needs thorns looked at.

Dante's work to output ratio just doesn't feel right compared to a lot of characters -- call it a hunch but eh. I'm not gonna be good at this game for a long time anyway.

He's got some stuff that seems OP. Comboing off grounded buster. Following up a level 3 hit. The amount of invincibility on his new DP hyper.

I don't care at all that he's safe or even being able to convert off of almost any stray hit (that's a skill needed in marvel in general and I could convert off of a ton of wacky shit in umvc3)....i even don't hate the overhead because that shit is kinda hype. For me it's 100% twister/tempest. I need to hit the lab to figure that shit out or just play Dante and see how others deal with.

Zero is def given less credit than he's due atm, invincible super and shoryu is really good, blocked super gives great mixup, ice tackle is + on block, etc.
 
Looking at all of X's techniques from the series makes me wish his moveset was more explored. I feel like it's way too basic, and he's definitely not a beginner character.

Not saying he needed to be Dante esque, but his moveset is dry.

Will many pros go to that Canada one for example? I know Justin is.

That's all the characters that seem to really matter to most people anyway! Even the new DLC characters get more attention than most of the base roster in this game. I don't want to hear the meta is still too early because everyone's saying their working in the lab with the new DLC's. The only characters that you'll see get any tournament play is the same old, same old's and basically, any of the current and future DLC characters with the rest of the game's roster you might as well say they are basically none existed at this point!

Canada Cup should be packed with great players.
Stone tournament and one of the last premier events for CPT. All the top NA and international players will be there.

There is a punish that exists to it. Check out Flux's twitter, you can push block at the right time allowing you to actually punish Dante for it.

On a side note, I don't really have trouble with reality stone spam, but Monster Hunter is making playing against those people hilarious. It's like their whole gameplan is just fucked.
 
finally got my brooks ps3-ps4 converter and I can finally play this the way I want too. Ready to "find" my team. I hear Black panther is tough to use, but he looks the most appealing to me. Also thinking Jedah, only because his my fav darkstalkers character.


unrelated: I want Daredevil in this.
 
Dante is the UMVC3 Doctor Doom of Marvel Infinite. He's relatively easy to use, doesn't have a lot of bad matchups, gets damage off of everything and no matter what character you use he's probably the best possible partner for them.

He’s been great for me paired with monster hunter I really quite like him. I’m probably playing him wrong but I’ve had success using him to punish mistakes and runshing in on tags with Monster Hunter. I went 1:3 with a MH Jeda Combo yesterday with a similar strategy. Jeda on point and MH rushing in.
