Not knowing anything about Doctor Strange, if he loses that to Thanos, which we assume that he will at some point in Infinity War, would he still have his powers? Or just not the specific powers allowed by that gem?

As always with these films, I'd imagine around a few days beforehand. Genuinely fascinated to see how it'll be received.
Depends on the movie but Marvel has had press screenings a week or two before release for awhile now. Civil War got screened like a month in advance.

Flicked through the latest Empire magazine and skimmed their Doctor Strange cover story. Some details I remember:
- Director originally wanted Cumberbatch for the role but there were scheduling conflicts because of the actors commitment to a Shakespeare production. They looked at other actors including Joaquin Phoenix, Jared Leto and Ryan Gosling but the director was adamant that it should be Cumberbatch. Because of this Marvel pushed back the release of the film so he could be free to play the role once he was done with the Shakespeare production.
- Wong is master sorcerer and a sort of intellectual guide for Strange. Something like that.
- They thought long and hard about how to tackle the Ancient One and are happy with their decision despite the controversy.
- Kaecilius was a former student at Kamar-Taj (where Strange goes to learn) but left and formed his own little cult.
That's all I remember. It was a quick look through.
