Marvel's Spider-Man 2 - Announce Trailer - PC

One year .. all it took is one year to get the best version possible of the game depending on your hardware of course.

I no longer understand what Sony is doing . At least MS own windows so it's in its best interests to have their games on PC.

Sony own shit on PC. Yet they advertise a 700$ console … then release all their blockbuster games on a platform they don't own. Just for sake of quick short term profit while damaging the PlayStation hardware brand.

The reason people bought PlayStation over Xbox was the number of exclusive IPs they had over MS.

What are they doing now is basically telling you if you can wait just a little, You can have a better version of our games . With cheaper price too ( at least if u know where to look ), and guess what ? No upgrade fees and plenty of community mod that they can't even stop even if they wanted to.

Absolutely clowns. I am sorry I can't just find any better word to use.

As a PC gamer ? Day one

The future of gaming is an app service on every device. Sony knows this and has to plant seeds now.

The most exciting part is the mod and that they might fix the outstanding bugs with the PC release

no, the future of gaming is the same as the present, it is in owning a platform. Sony is voluntarily reducing the value of their own platform, that they spent 30 years building, to rake in some short term cash.

It's a mistake. At least with MS you could make the argument that they were getting people in their own ecosystem on PC, through the Xbox app, until they didn't, and then Xbox totally collapsed afterwards.

Sony is doing fine. Gamers double dip a lot. The one year gap is long enough that most gamers can't wait. They then buy it again a year later. Mods can't and won't fix most issues. Nexus will ban any decent ones.

I know they work with PC, but that doesn't mean they have binaries compiled for Windows runtime environments when working with said PCs.
Of course it does.

It's not the same as writing code with calls to Windows APIs and middleware packages when coding for a non-Windows platform like a PlayStation 5. If that's how it worked, there wouldn't be much reason for hardware-based PS5 devkits.
This has been standard practice for decades. Yes the PC version will only be as functional as it needs to be for development purposes (which could mean missing graphical features, support for online platforms, peripherals etc.) but it's still an actual PC build. And for engines that come with their own editor & workflow, that means PC version is usually fully featured in terms of graphical elements as well.
Pre-'repurposed PC GPU' era - there were elements that would really not work well (or at all) on PC Builds - but it was still common practice to maintain them - even dating as far back as 2001.

Hardware based devkits are the source of truth ultimately though - if something doesn't work there, or doesn't perform, or anything else - then it doesn't exist, especially for console exclusives.

Anyone denying day and date is coming is coping hard. Hermen the grifter can't resist.

As for this game, whatever. It was a massive step down from the first one.

Yah the game feels like a glorified DLC with the play time. Not to mention how buggy it was on the PS5. At least PC version is shaping up to be the best version now

With their console dying, Xbox fans are hiding behind the PC like scared little kittens.

My point though, is that especially for older games, those PC builds were in nowhere near a state where someone could just take the PC code and build a playable binary of the game to run on that PC. Like you said, many things just would not be running or wouldn't be functional on a given PC running a given OS with given APIs, because large chunks of the game code would be using API calls in SDKs built for a different OS running on completely different hardware.

Which kind of gets at the whole definition of "PC" while we're at it because even back in the '90s or '00s "PC" didn't synonymously mean Windows like it does for gaming today. A lot of SNES & Genesis games had portions coded on Amigas for example; that is closer to a microcomputer (with proprietary hardware & OS) than an IBM-compatible Windows PC.

Hardware based devkits are the source of truth ultimately though - if something doesn't work there, or doesn't perform, or anything else - then it doesn't exist, especially for console exclusives.

And to that note, even today it's the console exclusives that generally have the least amount of critical systems up and running with Windows & DX12U-compatible API calls or whatever, unless it's an Xbox console because that's Microsoft's and they all share the same SDK, and Xbox OS is based on the Windows kernel.

So how is a game like Spiderman 2, that was said to be an exclusive built from the ground-up for PS5, releasing on a Windows PC so soon? Well then it must've had large portions of its code and development environment already running on Windows. The engine already has a Windows version because of the port for Spiderman 2018. I'm bringing all this up because it also shows why there's a playable build of Wolverine already running on Windows PCs. But also mentioning it because I think it's fair to ask just how much are 1P games really taking advantage of PS5 hardware, certainly going forward. Especially if the stagger windows between console to PC are just 1 year or shrink even faster, or if they go Day 1.

I was just thinking this. The time really flew. Unfortunate for this game that I won't be playing any big AAA now until I start and finish stalker 2. I'll wait til it's on sale on steam.

This is the audience SIE are chasing on PC. And at least you're actually going to buy the game (what kind of sale we talking here? $50? $40? $30? $10?)

This is only true of usually the biggest and most anticipated games. And only when the new port offers a ton of new QOL benefits and/or content the original version did not. Double-dipping isn't as favorable for SIE's heavily story-driven games as it is for, say, a GTA6, even if GTA also has a big story-driven campaign.

But the open-world elements of a GTA typically outshine most every other open-world game on the market, and they also have GTA Online (and while not on them, fan mods of GTA Online like NoPixel) to further drive double and triple-dips. SIE's single player story-driven AAA games don't have that going for them.

I'm a black dude with mostly black friends. Never seen anyone with that haircut. I'm sure it's out there, but I was at the barber when they revealed Eddie Gordo in Tekken 8 and we all laughed at the haircut.

Maybe the ones in your neck of the woods do like it. Those around me certainly don't.

Hold on!!!! People in your barbershop thought this haircut looked stupid?

Where do you live and around what's the age of you and men in your barbershop?

Virtually no one has this hair cut and these developers need to stop using it for every single black character. It's beyond ridiculous at this point.

Where do yall live? It's like there's totally different type of black men on GAF now. Are yall real? LOL!

Nah bruh! You just eliminated PC, Playstation, and Nintendo for no reason lol. Why do you hate gaming this much?

I'd have to agree. I liked Spider-Man 2 but I wasn't gonna rush out and buy a PS5 for that game horizon or any of their remasters. There's so many games releasing these days and we all got backlogs, so waiting is not a big deal at all. Worse thing is I have yet to play horizon and I bought ages ago, I could have waited even longer to buy it.

He's not lying though.

I work in the music biz and I hated it when streaming and digital downloads killed physical media. I'm sure movie biz peeps fealt the same sting….. but you know what? We accepted that that's the way the world is going and adjusted for it. The gaming biz is now going through that change. And the people who work in it are adjusting to the changes.

It's just die hard console gamers like yourself who are clinging on to how it used to be. He doesn't hate gaming just because he can see the writing in the wall….

The account is more important than the box they sell you. Gen X gamers and younger don't care about your gaming box under the TV…. They are all playing GAAS on tablets…. They are the majority now.

You don't have to like it and shit…… too a degree I don't like it…… but it's where we are, here and now and where things are going? Have you not seen the latest stats on gogiral VS physical? And GP may be stalling right now but the fact they even Sony is ( half heartedly) promoting a subscription service should tell you where the biz is heading.

I remember a few years ago working with a pretty well known recording artist and we was debating digital vs physical and he said something that sums up business well…. "Where this change go 💰💸💵💶💷……this game go"…… that's every biz ever…..

Wishful thinking about the old days, is nothing more than that…… things are changing in the biz. And who don't adapt will lose hard….. Sony learned this already when iTunes and Spotify crippled their music biz. And now with PS as the main bread winner at the house of Sony….. well…… they are gonna be about this money. The account rules…. The console is just the box you have the account on. That's how it goes now.

Did you see what he said? Gaming is going toward an app on every device, instead of what it is today. Yes, to want that means you hate gaming. VR gaming on console only happened due to Sony making PSVR and PSVR 2. Nintendo made the world understand and accept handheld gaming could be a SteamDeck or a Rog Ally.

And the bolded is literally 100% incorrect. GenX gamers do care about the box under the TV or on their desk. And they aren't all just playing GAAS games on tablets. Why are you saying things like this?

There are significantly lesser games on consoles, so the backlog issue is lesser on consoles too

…… because it's true. They don't care anywhere near as much as you might think….. tell me…. Do you have kids?

Sometimes you guys speak from such an ideological point of view….. not reflective of the state of gaming at all…. Just saying what you wish it still was instead of acknowledging where it is….. these are companies that are out to make money and they go where the consumer goes. Don't shoot the messenger…… 🤷🏾‍♂️

There was even a study that showed that Gen X & older gamers prefer single-player games...well where are a lot of the best single-player games? On PlayStation and Nintendo systems (and Xbox I guess, but less).

So chances are those types of gamers have some combination of a PlayStation, Nintendo, smartphone, and PC. They aren't playing those single-player titles through cloud streaming services in any significant number.

There are still thousands of games on consoles though, so backlogging isn't suddenly insignificant on console hardware.

No he's right on that point. You should go see the study about gaming habits of older gamers. They're more into single-player games, at least those into console/core gaming. But I imagine it's very similar for mobile gamers as games like Candy Crush are single-player centric, too.

And in both cases, very likely they are playing them on local hardware, not through cloud streaming services & apps.

With this megaton, I'm starting to think that people who hypothesized that Sony is intent on coming up with their own PC store were onto something. That's a flagship title that we still regularly see in the top 20. No way have the PS5 sales slowed down that much.
Actually sales probably did slow down without any episodic DLC like spiderman 1.

Thousands of games on consoles is still a small fraction to what is being offered on Steam or mobile

Or how about black women where it's often that big loud Scary Spice hair?

I'm fine with visual changes to characters. but race swapping is a bridge to far. You almost certainly know the majority of people interested in something like that has certain distasteful views.

Not really. It depends on motives. Some people don't care about race at all, and will change the race of a character, because why not..who cares. I think we need to move past the lizard brain stage and not care about race. However we know that if somebody made a white character black it would be seen as good thing but let's be honest that wouldn't be done by somebody who doesn't care about race.

Somebody changing anyone's race, be it white to black or black to white obviously cares deeply enough about the matter to mod it. They are free to do so, but it's pretty obvious why they want to do so in the first place.

This is the problem today. You can't read minds but everyone thinks they can. It's just pure projection. To some people race is everything, it's the most important thing to them. If somebody changes the race of somebody it must be due to that reason because that's how they think. I could quite happily change Peter and Miles to two hot Asian women. Not because I hate black and white men but because I like Asian women. You just don't know. If somebody wants a McDonald's and not a Burger King, it doesn't mean they hate Burger King. We don't apply this logic to anything but race and gender.
