Marvel's Spider-Man 2 - Announce Trailer - PC

What the fuck are you doing, PlayStation ?

Selling videogames for money to make more videogames

I'm tired

Still amazed he has not accidentally kicked someone in the chin doing this xD

The yes men of Jim Ryan doing damage control. Celebrating every dumb decision Sony mades that leads them the same way of Microsoft. Meanwhile in Japan the PC sales are 4 times bigger. But fear not: Ryan is gone and his right hand and responsible for a 400 million fiasco is in charge of half the company now. I'm sure that he'll course correct.

Personally still think Jim takes a bit too much of the blame (he was with PlayStation for 30 years), but you're right about the corporate bootlickers and defenders now. They're just about as bad as those for Xbox before the truth finally forced those ones to stop talking delusions.

I don't doubt SIE will still put out amazing games: that's much harder to screw up than sales momentum for your platform, SEGA was proof of such. But they're going to be fewer in number, creatively "safer", and less a big driver for console sales. Plus it'll be even less in terms of non-GAAS considering SIE still want to chase that ghost.

For me, the best days of PlayStation are in the past. They just don't have that hunger like with the PS1 (to prove themselves) & PS2 (to prove they weren't a one-hit wonder). Or the PS3 (to prove themselves again after screwing up big time). We'd need a new outsider to step in to bring that hunger back.

Yep, playable from start to finish. This was because of the Insomniac leak.

Runs like trash, but the modding community works fast. If you're Sony, you probably don't want them one-upping you with a fully playable and decently-running pirate build.

At the end of the day it's still SIE's fault because if they didn't have a partially compiled PC Windows version up and running, if they didn't have the game engine compiled for running on PC (which was required for the port of the first game), they wouldn't have hackers running the game already. In fact, hackers wouldn't have had playable builds of Wolverine up-and-running, either.

SIE created this problem for themselves and I don't feel a lick sorry for them about it. Corporate greed to chase a few dollars with porting everything to PC this gen got them in this mess. Now it's forcing their hand.

Can't wait to find out. Sony knows how much a bad port can affect sales.
That would be beyond moronic even for them, the whole thing would simply boil down to "It's a shit port", certainly not "PS5 Pro better". All it would accomplish is further damage to sales.

And there wouldn't be a single reason for this version to not have those additional RT features common with Insomniac PC ports, and those alone would make it the better version barring, unlikely, stuttering issues.

Let me tell you an open secret: Most PC gamers don't give a shit how it runs on PS5. Most PS5 gamers don't give a shit how it runs on PC. As long as it runs well and looks good on their platform, they're happy.

Precisely why intentionally damaging one version of software you want to sell, for the sole purpose of making another platform look good, would be, again, beyond moronic.

I guess there are however people who care, many on GAF game on both high end PC and consoles and benefit from informed comparisons.

cn we get astrobot and GT7 next? 🥺 please?
I don't want to be THAT guy but why the hell is Sony porting everything but my beloved GT7? I need it on PC. And I needed it yesterday.
Gran Turismo is behind some licensing hell as Sony NEVER does anything with the games; no PS1 classics on PSP/PS3, PS Vita or PS4/PS5, PS2 classics on PS3, PS4 or PS5, or PSP classic on PS4/PS5. They weren't added to PS Plus or PS Now either, ever.
Plus, GT5, 6 and Sport were eventually delisted from digital stores (funnily enough, GT PSP is still available).
Sony has already ported all of its 2022 games (Horizon Forbidden West, The Last of Us Part I and God of War Ragnarok), EXCEPT FOR Gran Turismo 7, and no word of it coming any time soon.
i didn't talk about sells. but because you keep talking about them...

Ragnarok
Forbidden west
Miles Morales

all of them performed worse than than their previous entries on PC.
Using Miles Morales is pretty disingenuous here, especially since it was ported just 3 months after Spider-Man.

The game will arrive in January on PC. It's clear the game might be at 15m. units sold atm. And we still have the holidays which will sell great. I can see Sony doing the $40 price point which will increase them closer to 20m. units.

And the game will continue to sell on PS5 and PC.

One thing that people still forgetting that the first Spiderman was released in September 2018, by April 2019 it was already at $40 and in June 2019 (Days of Play) you could get it for $20.

Despite Niche Man 2 budget being more than the first one, I'm also seeing that they got more revenue from it.
It's not clear 15m yet, Spiderman 2 is selling slower than Mario Wonder if Wonder doesn't cross 15m yet then it's impossible for Spiderman 2 to be at that mark.

that's worse, because the idea is that the closer the release dates between PlayStation and PC, the higher sales on PC will be.
What are you talking about? I'm just saying that it was ported in November 2022 (2 full years after the original release), just 3 months after Spider-Man in August 2022.
Not all of those people were going to buy 'Spider-Man BUT more, with Miles Morales' in such a short period of time, at full price.

Most developers work with PC - having a partially/fully working PC version during development has been standard practice 'at least' since early 2000s. Doesn't matter who the pub/dev were, or whether games were exclusive or not.

i understand what you are saying. you can see a bump in players down the line for a bit. (but it didn't surpass the initial number). a deal, people finishing SM? 🤷🏼‍♂️.

Ah, the one game that had me still thinking about getting a PS5 at the end of this year. My PC is becoming more and more of a PlayStation as we speak lol.

1 year 3 months. So what happened to the "minimum two year gap".

Everyone knew the gap would shrink. And at some point for the big SP games, it'll be zero. Just like GAAS are day one, and those compilation packs or LOU Part 1 are all less than a year already.

WHERE'S BLOODBORNE YOU STUPID FUCKING BASTARDS
I bet with 99% certainty that Bloodborne will be remade for PS6.

Unless there's some legal issues that prevent SIE from doing something with the franchise that we don't know about.

You know, Blue Point has been suspiciously quiet about their "no remake" game that they've been doing for 4 years now. Bloodborne 2?

Let me tell you another secret: Most console gamers don't give a shit how it runs on console. As long as it runs well and looks good on their platform, they're happy. It's shocking 😅, but real world people are not the likes of neogaf bubble and twitter warriors. They are simple gamers, it the game is not crashing, they are happy. Thats why most people have last gen console and mid PCs.

With this megaton, I'm starting to think that people who hypothesized that Sony is intent on coming up with their own PC store were onto something. That's a flagship title that we still regularly see in the top 20. No way have the PS5 sales slowed down that much.
Day 1 on their own store/launcher.
1-2 years later on Steam.

That would kickstart the popularity of their launcher.

But Nixxes needs to do the development of the PC version side-by-side with the main studio for this to work. And I don't think that's realistic. Even 6 months later would be difficult, and then people would rather wait for the Steam release.

Anyhow as someone with a PS5 Pro preordered and a dedicated couch PC with 7800X3D and 4080S I'm starting to wonder what the Pro actually gets me. Is it really just about skipping 1 year timed excusivity going forward? Or is SM2 a rare exception? Maybe it's Marvel that's shortening the delay here?

Funny how they had another chance in this trailer to highlight the MJ levels they're so proud of, not to mention all the "progressive" and "inclusive" content featured in the game but they once again chose not to...

Isn't that what "modern audiences" want? If so you'd think they'd showcase it front and center, but yet they never seem to, I wonder why...

Yep. He had that perfect fade they replaced with that stupid Killmonger haircut every black male character in video games has.
The waves were crispy, and then they went and turned miles into a CW character lol. How his dreadlocks grew that long that fast is probably the most wacky part of the entire game.

I know they work with PC, but that doesn't mean they have binaries compiled for Windows runtime environments when working with said PCs. They use linkers and program suites with compatibility to APIs in the SDKs of the target platform, and then compile builds to run on a dev kit based on the target retail hardware. Sometimes, they may have some type of emulation that can run part of the game code in an emulated environment on PC.

It's not the same as writing code with calls to Windows APIs and middleware packages when coding for a non-Windows platform like a PlayStation 5. If that's how it worked, there wouldn't be much reason for hardware-based PS5 devkits.

I think it's good that they don't release any DLC, Morales and the DLCs burned the formula a little bit and Spiderman is a kind of game difficult to reinvent, because its formula is already perfect.
Important not to burn the IPs (Horizon take note...).

I remember I was accused of "concern trolling" for wondering about how this would run on steamdeck at one point 😅.
Guessing it will be a bit heavier to run than the first game.

Hope this game will trigger the start of a new modding site and the end of Nexus Mods, no way Nexus C*cks will allow anti-DEI mods and people will want them.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't Lego Horizon game and Horizon Remaster Day 1 on the PC?

Good. For a long time I didn't purchase anything from PSN because they bring their games to PC. Sony cemented this further. No need to buy from there, I'll play it on PC. I can wait, no problem.

Maaaan I remember myself that I was a reaaaally hardcore Playstation fan on the console side. For nearly 30 years I had PC + Playstation and have all the PS consoles (still have 1, 2, 3, Vita, PSP, 5). Now I don't want nothing to the with Playstation anymore. I'll add games to my Steam library when they come to PC because I'm not rich enough to double dip in on every game. That's why its's not feasable for me to purchase games from PSN anymore.

Thank you Sony :messenger_heart:

Yes, correct.
