Marvel's Spider-Man movies and the Osborne problem...

Mysterio would be cool, and I'm definitely down for a retry at the symbiotes done right. The Osborn's will have to come back eventually but there are good alternatives. I'd LOVE to see Kingpin, even better as a team up.
A post-credits Kingpin or Daredevil tease would shake the entire fucking internet

As I said, I like Osborn as a bureaucratic figure (like the Kingpin or Luthor) that's obsessed with ruining Parker's life. It's just the Green Goblin persona that I think is lame as fuck. I haven't even read Superior Spider-Man but Doc Ock has plenty of iconic stories and he was portrayed to perfection by the god Alfred Molina.

He's also a perfect embodiment of most of Spider-Man's rogue gallery. He's a misguided scientist that can be ruthless but still has respect for Peter and some redeeeming qualities. Green Goblin is just crazy, he's more of a Batman type villain.
Not really. Otto ranted all the time what a moron Peter is in Superior while Norman kinda wants him as his son.
Also the goblin has far more iconic Storylines.

Edit: Now while I am thinking about it, Ock never payed respect to anything that Spider-Man has ever done, all he ever was ranting. And he couldnt respect Parker since he didnt knew he was Spider-Man and AFAIR they meet just a couple of time decades ago?
I am thinking you are mixing Spider-Man 2 stuff up in the Comics.

The goblin is an amazing villain. Goblin is the standard that good villains should achieve to. He's up there with kraven with my favorite villains. None of that anime "there's some good in all that evil" type stuff. He's ruthless, and cunning, and as much as he hates spider man, he's defined by what spider man does. He's more like luthor than he is any Batman rogue.

I hope they go for crazy scheeming Lex Luthor Osborne. Dafoe Osborne was basically Jack Nicholson's Joker. Had a memorable showing but was a one and done affair. I want the Osborne that keeps the mask in his desk drawer and runs the Thunderbolts and forms the Dark Avengers.

I don't contest the fact that Green Goblin has more iconic storylines (Gwen Stacy's death is my favorite Spider-Man story) and I haven't read Superior but while that wasn't a great time for Spider-Man comics, the 90s issue where Octopus operated on Parker and saved his life was pretty great. He had respect for him then and didn't want him to die because of a simple disease. I also liked the Master Planner stuff from the 60s or him trying to wed aunt May.

Goblin IS the main nemesis, I just think Otopus could be a much better one, as Raimi proved in Spider-Man 2. And I hope the new movies don't focus too much on the Osborns, I'm sick of them.

No, no, my knowledge of current Spidey continuity is very limited but there were plenty of times from the 60s to the 90s where he confessed his admiration and respect to Spider-Man and vice-versa. And he knew he was Peter Parker if I remember correctly, he probably forgot during One More Day.

Well, he did have a lot more dimension in that movie than in the comics at that point.

Then Slott came in and did even more with him.

It's the popularity that I question, not the acting. I havent seen the movie.

slott came around 4 years later, the hype was gone by then and his Arc where he build up Ock started even later.
And often use doesnt necessary mean that the character becomes more popular. SpOck may be pretty popular but that is not Doc Ock when you know what I mean.

Venom is trash. Leave him and Carnage and all that crap out of this series.

What I want to see is Peter stay in high school for a while. I'd love to see the John Hughes tone stay in place for at least a trilogy.

Now do the opposite of both these points and I would be a happy happy man.

I wasn't talking about his acting, though.

And you know what you have to do now, right?

Can you clarify, please? I'm having trouble with you you're trying to say is all.

I'll never watch another Tobey spider man movie.

The Doc Ock in the Body of Peter Parker may be pretty popular, but you cant say that he is the complete same guy who runs around with tentacles made of steel.
SpOck may be pretty popular, but "the real" Doc Ock not so much, even while booth are the same person.

I hope you understand now what I try to say, its a little bit hard to describe.

Cool, I get you now.

This is a problem I had expressed before The Amazing Spider-Man entered production, saying how Sam Raimi's films were essentially a Goblin trilogy. It's unfortunate that they couldn't steer away from it due to Gwen's death.

That being said, there's no Gwen Stacy thus far in this incarnation and no word of the Osborne's. It's going to be difficult to keep that charade up even if they use villains like Vulture, Shocker, Mysterio or Venom because eventually, given how critical Goblin is to Spider-Man's story, they will have to use him.

However, this Peter is a kid so I doubt you guys would have to worry too much about another incarnation of the Goblin. They can also do Gwen and Harry just fine without even mentioning Oscorp for a movie or two if they follow Spectacular Spider-Man. I highly doubt they will tackle any serious topics or storylines if they are working with a younger Peter and shifting focus towards a younger audience instead of an older Parker like Insomniac.

Best wishes.

Honestly I think the end credits tease will be the symbiote suit, not anything Osbourne related. Just to be like "yeah we're doing it right"

Furthermore I bet they'll do something stupid like Tony Stark is the cause of it existing/coming to Earth because everything needs to be about him

Would LOVE to see Mysterio on the big screen. Ideally you have one main villain and then a bunch of side carnies making appearances to break up the inevitable "does Peter Parker really want to be Spider-Man" storyline

Curious what route they take for the Osbournes/Goblin. Do you just say "ehh, he's dead" and just do Hobgoblin down the road? Or have a subplot in the first movie just be Norman's descent?

With the worst spider man? I don't see how.

Worst Spider-Man? Yes, even though I liked Tobey at the time. Best Spider-Man movie? Absolutely. Best Marvel movie? Also yes, even though I'm sure plenty of people will disagree. But Spidey 2, X2 and Civil War / Winter Soldier are far ahead of the rest.

As someone that just read the Ellis-Deodato Thunderbolts run, this. THIS. I want the guy that's a ruthless administrator, but that starts coming apart at the seams as soon as someone even mentions the word "Spider".

Bring on all the goblins. Green Goblin, Hobgoblin, Demongoblin, Jack 'o Lantern, Goblin 2099...

Or just cast Bruce Campbell as Mysterio or Kraven and be done with it.

I will never not laugh at that comic panel good lord.

As for Goblin, I have him as a prominent presence in the first two movies and then have him go full villain in the third.

I like this idea.
Osborn is a very important part of Spider-Man and should be in the background for the first couple of films.
Goblin is such an important Spider-Man villain that it will be fitting that he closes out this first arch of new Spider-Man films. It will also have a greater impact to see Osborn finally turn if he's been built up for two films previously.

That's the problem with Spider-Man. He's got a lot of villains, many of whom are pretty iconic, but most of them kinda suck. Or at least can't carry a movie on their own. Nobody really wants 2 hours of Mysterio, or Shocker, or whoever; ASM2 showed how pointless that was. Osborne is pretty much the leading man, Spidey's Dr. Doom or Magneto and it's almost guaranteed that whatever happens the movies will almost certainly involve him in some way.

Honestly, I think the BEST move would be to formally tie Spider-Man into the Daredevil Netflix-verse and make The Kingpin the villain but I think the difference in tone would probably sink it.

>_>

*raises hand*

...I do.

As I practically lived on the 90s cartoon and PS1 games as a kid; I will defend Shocker to the end. I fucking love Shocker.

Seriously, I like this idea. However, limit Daredevil's involvement to cameos in several episodes. Would be neat to see a naive and young Spidey go up against the dark and cynical "adult" world.

I'm in the camp of thinking Ock would be a good choice. I mean, I'm in the camp of what I think Slott was trying to do, where he saw Ock as sort of a dark mirror version of Peter. Like a Buffy and Faith scenario. To that end, I think Ock could be a really good choice.
I am not familiar with American comic's publication operation, can anybody explain to me why can't Marvel print a mini series to recon this story?
Because why retcon what you can completely ignore

I'd like to see some new villains in these movies. I'm a little burnt out on Osborns and Goblins. Of the five Spider-Man movies that exist right now, Peter has fought Osborns in three of them (Raimi Spider-Man 1 & 3, ASM 2). And it was Harry in two of those.

-The Sinister Six seems llke an obvious way to go. Or maybe merge it with the Master Planner framework? If only to show that image of Spidey under the rubble in the flooding lair.
-a moment where Flash Thompson gets wrongfully attacked while wearing the Spidey costume?
-"Face it, Tiger. You've just hit the jackpot."
-re-attempt the black suit/Venom story
- this leads to an eventual Agent Venom, maybe? Or Carnage if, y'know, they wanted to really dig into the bottom of the barrel...
-Scorpion? Alongside the Spider-Slayers?
-Prowler?
-Black Cat?
-Jackal and.... clones...
-a crime-centric story vs. Tombstone (as a stand-in for D'onofrio's Kingpin)
-Kraven's Last Hunt?

The tricky part is not all of these really affect Spider-Man really personally to create a real arc on their own. Someone like Scorpion or Mysterio could be cool to see, but it's also too easy for them to simply be villain-of-the-week type antagonists, making the movie simply feel episodic which is something the lesser Marvel movies get heavily criticized for. And typically, Marvel movies have far less-commonly sold their movies around the antagonist. Ultron, Loki, and Winter Soldier are maybe the biggest exceptions.

That seems like more than enough to tackle for the next 3-5 movies before they need to resort to Osborn again.

Following the typical Marvel Studios framework, it'll be about personal conflict just as much about the villain, so who cares if they go with a villain of the week approach when obviously, a movie featuring a run of the mill villain like Homecoming will be about so much more than that.

If there's anything to learn from the failures from the previous SM movies, its not overstuffing the movies with villain plotlines.

Meh. Completely disagreed. Spider-Man works in the comics because its full of over-the-top cartoony villains that he can run circles around and poke fun at. He ain't Batman.
