Mary Olson is replacing Yumi Yang as Head of Santa Monica Studio

If the game fails, it is the studio heads responsibility.

No, it's literally not. Unless there were systemic issues with the studio management that caused the game to fail.

If the game is good, it is the studio heads responsibility.

No. It literally isn't.

Everything that makes good games good involve technical, design and creative inputs that DO NOT COME FROM THE FUCKING STUDIO MANAGER!!!

How many times do I gotta say it.... IT'S NOT A FUCKING CREATIVE ROLE.

How many times have you heard stories of a studio being mismanaged because of poor executive leadership?

A wholly owned first party game studio?! Virtually never. Because the systemic issues for studios in this envious position are almost always cultural issues derived from the publisher and not the studio execs.

There are very few exceptions, but studio execs DO NOT HAVE ANY MEANINGFUL CREATIVE INPUT INTO THEIR GAMES!!!!

You have 8 Years of Service on GAF.

I have 11 Years of Service on GAF.

This is almost a 30% difference in experience. So I can understand why you have these gaps in your knowledge.

Wow!!! How old are you? WTF!?!

But by this logic,

What logic? I made a factual statement about what the responsibility of a studio head is.

no one should've ever pressed Bonnie Ross, or even Matt Booty and Phil Spencer (since neither were involved in the day-to-day development/creative side operations of studio projects).

Pressed them about what?

No-one is blaming Phil Spencer or Matt Booty for the failure of a single Xbox Studio game. They rightly get blamed when multiple studios launch a string of failed products, because that speaks to systemic issues both within and around the studios that is preventing them from being able to ship competent games---especially when some of those studios were previously third party and were able to successfully ship great games prior to coming under the Xbox umbrella.

Studio heads run the studios, so any cultural or structural issues that could get in the way of development are directly their responsibility. But if they've done their jobs and removed all roadblocks that doesn't mean that a game is a guaranteed sure fire hit or will be critically acclaimed. Once the cultural and structural issues are resolved, after that it falls to the creative leads to create a compelling game. The studio head have no more input into it.

Fostering an environment conducive to the creation of games isn't the same as being responsible for the quality of the games being made.

And clearly, those three deserve the criticism they've received. As should ay studio head. ALL the criticism? No. But they're not completely absolved of blame (or praise, if their projects are successful).

So...I kinda disagree, respectfully.

You've contrived my argument into something I never claimed that you're now trying to disagree with. I never said studio heads work has no impact on the quality of the games the studio makes. I merely made the factual statement that they have minimal creative input to the games being developed. It really shouldn't be difficult for anyone to be able to comprehend that those two statements are not the same thing.

You betrayed your ignorance right here.

343i - Halo Infinite
Bungie - Destiny 2
Arkane Austin - Redfall
Firewalk Studios - Concord

All first party studios with stories of mismanagement. Once you get more experienced in the gaming space you will realise that it is not 'virtually never'.

ALSO

Your knowledge of game development is rudimentary at best.

You believe that creative input is the most significant factor to shipping a good game.

Look at Too Human, it is a story of having a great vision with poorly managed execution.

Your opinion is an incredible minority.
