Yeah VP Pence was saying the same thing today. People look at the positive count and think that is all we have tested, but in reality we have tested a ton and the come back negative.

Thats why I think that nations should announce their negative test outcomes. We are doing that here in my province. They just accounced 7K negative tests.

Looking at Korea they seem to have a 2.9% positive rate

Not sure though what these numbers tell us. I assume if you test negative today you can easily test positive tomorrow?

But it seems to be a thing world wide that 96-99% of tests come back negative.

I love how this thread wanks to Trumps edgelord comments on reporters, while ignoring that this dude and his administration are responsible for the slow response in America, fucking over Millions of people in the end, while also fueling the sentiment of "It's just a flu bro" in the beginning.

Aged like fine wine.

Quoting CNN news headlines won't bring you less cases & deaths, an administration handling this crisis like grown ups will.

part of his job is to contain panic.. you have no idea what goes on behind the scenes.. they had to revamp the whole testing process

same concept when he talks about his love letters to North Korea.. you really think he’s in love?

Yes that does look bad, and aged poorly. But his actions have spoken louder than tweets, and he wasn't the only one at that point making claims like that.

Ahh, I remember you. Back again to push the Chinese narrative that the US is bungling this?

US has far more ICU beds per capita though. Hospital beds can be increased as needed.

It's these types of articles that I think are trying to promote fear. You should be careful posting them.

This is also why I think UK is fucked and I don't believe the china numbers (I do tend to believe their percentages though. I just think they have under reported everything with one less 0.)

Wierd, USA is reported at 2.8 per capita most everything I read about it, and looking at that graph, look at the dates, I've never seen any data this high, what is going on in this picture?

USA at, 2.8, 2.89, 2,29 avaiable beds per capita, looking at various sites, always.

Is www.statista.com a reliable source?

Though, looking at the source data, this graph shows number of ICU beds per 100000.

Not the same thing (Source: OECD – Acute Care Beds & OECD – Acute Care Bed Utilization ).

Critical Care and total beds are different things. The US medical system pretty much tries to get you out of the hospital and home quickly. Places like Japan follow a long hospitalization philosophy.

ICU != Hospital beds. You cannot quickly increase ICU beds, you can drastically increase hospital beds with tents, ships, and take over of other buildings in a very short time .

The US has a lot more ICU beds than hospital beds for this reason.

904 cases in Brazil with 11 deaths. Just a few days ago there were 120 cases. This is going faster than Italy and our government has been slow as hell to deal with this.

Health minister already said the health system will be absolutely overwhelmed by the end of April. (IMO it will be earlier than that).

Chaos is coming.

I'm in Illinois and my boss just said we're working as usual next week. Not sure what exactly the stay at home directive has changed, I don't see how we could be considered essential.

So a bit of a question regarding 2 week shelter / quarantines...

After 2 weeks, if you have light symptoms, what do you do? No one has really provided much guidance.

I'm sure there will be people at the end of week 2 that are getting better, but possibly still shedding virus that will just go out and go to the most populated place possible to celebrate (for example).

There are a bunch of edge cases where this will get really really screwy and unsuccessful imho

You stay at home. This two week business is just to ease us into longer quarantines in some areas. I fully expect NY to be lockdown for 1-2 months.

It's clear as a day that Trump didn't take this shit serious at all, trying to ignore it in the hope that this crisis somehow vanishes from itself. This works for political opponents because his base doesn't care about them anyway, but this won't work for a virus.

Thank God he changed his mind at least, because he is just stubborn.

America is going to have massive fucking problems, far more than we here in Europe.

I just can't believe my eyes that 1/3 of this thread are about some fucked up ideological warfare between Republicans and Democrats, trying to out-edgelord each other and shift blame wherever possible while the virus is just going to wreck your healthcare system, wreck your jobs and wreck this useless administration that tried to ignore the problem like the Chinese Government (fair enough, they even tried to cover it up).

And even the administrator of this page posts selective headlines that do jackshit to improve your situation and fuel the sentiment of divide.

The same dude that made that CNN headline also wrote this article, guess it wasn't posted as look-at-the-media.jpeg

Me: I really wanna get Animal Crossing but I can save $10 if I pick it up at Wal-Mart, but it's also probably the most likely place to catch the coronavirus and there's confirmed cases in my county.

Sweden is starting to take off exponentially too :(

1623 cases, 16 dead, up by 33% in a day.

Tegnell said yesterday that over 100 000 could be infected. Would not surprise me the least.
I am bracing myself for the deaths that are about to happen.

Hopefully this will be a wake up call for all of us.

The US has a lot more ICU beds than hospital beds for this reason.

So, are theese active beds?

And there is still something off here, "However, there are fewer than 100,000 ICU beds in the United States, according to a recent analysis by Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security. ".

Ah, it's counting every bed collecting dust all over, not a good statistic to count at all:

"
Although the survey is a decade old and hospitals have added ventilators to their stockpile, "we figure that supply is less than 100,000 in this country," said Timothy Myers, a respiratory therapist and chief business officer of the American Association for Respiratory Care, which contributed to the survey.

"The number of ventilators pretty much mirrors the number of ICU beds in this country," Myers said. "The problem is a lot of these patients are being ventilated for numerous days. Some are off in three to four days. Others are on for several weeks. That is where you get the supply-demand issue."

The American Hospital Association estimates 960,000 Americans could need mechanical help to breathe during the coronavirus pandemic.

But even if hospitals pull out-of-date ventilators from storage and repurpose other machines to pitch in, there would only be enough devices and trained experts to treat 135,000 patients at a time, according to a paper the Society of Critical Care Medicine released Friday.

"

The 2.8 per capita figure is looking correct again.

EU is dead to you now? Yeah ... cool.

Yes.

Sweden had ordered medical equipment from German companies when COVID-19 broke out.
What happened? Export was refused.
Why? Because Germany would need it.

Eventually (after many critical days) after negotiation it was released. Sweden during this time experienced shortage which meant that the health care had to reuse already spent medical equipment.

EU is nothing but expensive bureaucracy. After all this is over, the fat cats should be cut from the teat.

Edit: I see now that you are Swedish. You should already know all of this.
