I love how this thread wanks to Trumps edgelord comments on reporters, while ignoring that this dude and his administration are responsible for the slow response in America, fucking over Millions of people in the end, while also fueling the sentiment of "It's just a flu bro" in the beginning.

Aged like fine wine.

Quoting CNN news headlines won't bring you less cases & deaths, an administration handling this crisis like grown ups will.

I'll respond even though this dude is banned.

I'm not a Trump fan by any means but continuing to undermine an administration amidst a public health crisis is not productive and helps no one.

Agreed. On average 150k people die everyday. It sucks that some of them are to COVID-19 but life goes on.

The issue is these deaths are on-top of most of those existing deaths, and these are deaths that likely wouldn't have happened otherwise (not all, of course).

We're seeing something like 49 countries with under 1000 cases right now. But these countries getting fucked by COVID19 right now used to only have 1000 or less cases. The fear is the Luxembourg of today (+149 cases) will be the Italy of tomorrow. If *every* country ends up on an Italy path, can you see how completely, monumentally horrific that would be?

RIP Brazil. :messenger_pensive:

Anecdotal, but an online friend said they weren't taking it seriously in Brazil. Like at all.

Combined with the close-knit nature of their residential areas, and yea, I think we're looking at a disaster.
I can confirm. Just to have an idea, I work in a freaking HOTEL and just last friday I was trying to tell people this was a big deal and everyone should be afraid and be ready. What I got were laughs from everyone and people saying I was crazy. Fast forward to today, we have close to 1k cases and the mayor declared emergency.

What the deuce

Sadly cant read the article since I am a filthy European.

But based on what I can read, I think they are right. You can not contain this.
You'll have to let is spread as controlled as possible (meaning, as slow as possible).

And even if you manage to contain it, all it needs is one idiot and it gets going again. And there are a lot of idiots out there.

Also a PSA. Be nice to people working in grocery stores folks.

These people are working on the front lines to give you food.

Actually, the grocery store situation calmed way down here. There wasn't any lines during lunch time and toilet paper is back in stock. Maybe the doomsday preppers vaults are full

I have faith in my governments leadership so far, they seem to be doing a good job. Not sure if I can say about the rest of the provinces. Stay safe out there in Alberta.

I saw the Chart with Italy vs Canada and we are starting to fall a bit behind Italy right now. If people take this social distancing stuff seriously and report cases ASAP we can hopefully keep slowing it down.

Also testing numbers are ramping up, if your province shares test numbers look at the negative test numbers as well. With more testing numbers will increase.

pJl84E7.png

We had another 40 something cases here today.
Calgary seems to be a hotspot.
Cases increase every 5 days at 30 percent as expected. By next week we should see daily increase of 70 and up for another 5 days.
Testing is the highest per capita in all of canada so they do a good job at that.

Sadly the numbers are low for people to take this serious. Today there was a huge increase in traffic in stores and on the roads.
I hope it just preparations for the weekend.

Limited amount of daycares for up to 15000 children will reopen with limited capacity to ensure people on the front lines such as healthcare , fire department police etc. are able to continue to work as we need them the most.

I think the goverment is doing everything possible to prevent a full on outbreak but a lot of people got laid off and this will be the case at least till august.

WASHINGTON/NEW YORK (Reuters) - The U.S. electric industry may ask essential staff to live on site at power plants and control centers to keep operations running if the coronavirus outbreak worsens, and has been stockpiling beds, blankets, and food for them, according to industry trade groups and electric cooperatives.

The contingency plans, if enacted, would mark an unprecedented step by power providers to keep their highly-skilled workers healthy as both private industry and governments scramble to minimize the impact of the global pandemic that has infected more than 227,000 people worldwide.

“The focus needs to be on things that keep the lights on and the gas flowing,” said Scott Aaronson, vice president of security and preparedness at the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), the nation’s biggest power industry association. He said that some “companies are already either sequestering a healthy group of their essential employees or are considering doing that and are identifying appropriate protocols to do that.”

Maria Korsnick, president of the Nuclear Energy Institute, said that some of the nation’s nearly 60 nuclear power plants are also “considering measures to isolate a core group to run the plant, stockpiling ready-to-eat meals and disposable tableware, laundry supplies and personal care items.”

Calgary does seem to be popping off, and my sister and her 2 kids live there :-(

They just announced here schools are closed till May, but I am sure that this will be revised, I doubt kids are going back. If they are lucky it will be the summer.

The economic impact is scaring me more than anything. Tough times ahead for everyone. I know that in Montreal we aren't far away from those places and this thing grows so quickly that in 2 weeks we can be sitting at 100's of cases.

Stay strong CANADA GAF.

This is absolutely wild. BTW I think the triggered emoji on liking posts should be "scared", it looks like a scared face. I mean it's just a suggestion if we survive through this.

Just in case you still wanted to read it.

The nation’s second-largest municipal health system has told its staff that it is essentially abandoning hope of containing the coronavirus outbreak and instructed doctors not to bother testing symptomatic patients if a positive result won’t change how they would be treated.

The guidance, sent by the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services to its doctors on Thursday, was prompted by a crush of patients and shortage of tests, and could make it difficult to ever know precisely how many people in L.A. County contracted the virus.

The department “is shifting from a strategy of case containment to slowing disease transmission and averting excess morbidity and mortality,” according to the letter. Doctors should test symptomatic patients only when “a diagnostic result will change clinical management or inform public health response.”

The guidance sets in writing what has been a reality all along. The shortage of tests nationwide has meant that many patients suspected of having COVID-19 have not had the diagnosis confirmed by a laboratory

Thank you my bro.

It sounds similar to the strategy currently being used here in Sweden.

I live in calgary. I can tell you no one will go back to school this year.
Yesterday they kicked everyone out from campus at SAIT.
Its been not even a week with no school and i can tell you wife is already going insane.
Most people here are following guidelines but then you have all the east indians who just go in herds and bump into everyone at canadian tire and such.
As i said the city was quite and this city is larger than new york.
But today and yesterday there were a lot more people out.

My wife is now locked in to work 7 days in a row and 2 days off.
She wanted to transfer to a different department as they are looking for nurses but her unit doesnt let her. She gets no sign off from her boss.

I can post updates about the hospital situation but so far its been quite.

We have i believe 350 ventialators and a couple thousand beds but dont quote me in this.

We have the most cases here as we have a lot of ethnic groups and also we are one the 4 airports that let canadian planes land that bring back everyone from vacation till end of march.

You have no idea how frustrating it is to finally be forced to stay home, have this perfect opportunity to game and just be a recluse.. and yet I have kids so I don't get a damn minute to myself and by the time they go to bed I'm too fucking tired to play anything.
I hear you. Got doom nioh2 and i cant turn the damn thing on cuz either my child wants to watch or my wife uses it to do her lemills fitness workout now that the gyms are closed.
Its not like we dont have 3 tvs in 3 separate rooms in the house. They are all hogging my set up.
And after 9 i dont have the energy anymore.

Ok, seriously, why are so many celebs testing positive for COVID-19?

Yes, I get that they're getting to the front of the line by being rich and/or famous.. but how is the social elite cluster so big? I saw one of the Bachelors also tested positive today.

Was there some huge 1%/Celebrity/Deep State/Epstein orgy where one of the slaves was infected?

Getting old is a real bitch! I set up a 'home office' in my bedroom with an Xbox and TV and everyone comes in here to bug me too lol

Fascinating article on why Italy was the second epicenter of this virus.

God bless your wife bro. She is putting her self on the line for others, and even though we are Kilometers apart I appreciate the work she is doing even if its hard on her and you. My sister is safe so far.

Updates are always appreciated.

Montreal is kinda the same. I feel people are doing the social distancing thing but I still see people out and about. There was a line up around the corner at the Weed store LOL.

I think we have a good hospital situation here in Canada, Hopefully I am not being to optimistic but I feel we will be able to give care to the people that need it.

Well, here goes...
Things have started to slow down a little bit at work, we have been getting supplies in. Finally got some tp for myself.
Did have a major scare today. The assistant manager in my department told me An idiot couple who recently got off of a
cruise ship decided to go shopping at my supermarket. I kept my distance, grabbed the carts they used (with my
gloved hands), moved them to the side of the building and sprayed them with bleach cleaner spray. I immeadiatly
removed my gloves, washed my hands, used hand sanitizer, and put on fresh gloves. This is getting to close...
