I had the flu about 3-4 weeks ago. This is a similar feeling as when that came on. Right now my only symptoms are the cough and a headache. I've been isolating since the 13th but the wife has been going into work. Thankfully she will be work from home starting Monday. This shit sucks, but it necessary.

Given the huge lag in testing and the blatant ignorance of the administration for so long, there will be a rather large lag for figuring out how effective the quarantine is.
The irony of downplaying shit comes to bite you back in that now businesses will have to suffer longer until there is a clear plan to re-open.

I can tell you in Canada we are still reporting 99% negative tests. Only 1% positive even as testing increases. We have done something like 70k test so far.

Thats the only thing i dont get. If 96 to 99% of people test negative how can 80% of the world get it? Why wouldnt the postive rate keep increasing so now it 90% test negstive then 80% then 60% and so on and so on.

Well i am no pandemic expert so these guys must have figured something out about it.

You see people all around the world moving about as normal, because honestly, the true danger of this thing hasn't been clearly conveyed and we're seeing wildly different results depending on countries. Japan's doing quite well without dramatically limiting people's freedoms. Meanwhile Italy is in lockdown and people are dying en masse.

A lot of folks are just not willing to give up their freedoms to lock themselves up in their homes for an undetermined amount of time. Many people don't even have that ability.

A long time ago I got pneumonia in my early 20s in the Army and coughed up blood, I didn't experience anything like what people are saying. Hell I didn't even get put on a respirator and I got sick on Post in the states.

Doubt it. Seems that most counties etc agree on the testing methods. Maybe a month or two ago there were some concerns and false postives. But for now everyone seems to agree that the testing being done is valid.

But ya it could be we find out in a few months that we needed to test for B and not A and that 70% of the negative tests were actually positive.

Italy has like 60 million people. US has 300 million. US has more population centers where outbreaks can occur.

Which is to say, of course the US can surpass Italy's numbers, but unless you take other factors into account that is meaningless. Just because the US has more cases does not mean we have it worse by any meaningful metric.

I believe one of the main factors when it comes to the spread of Corona is that alot of people walk around with it but without symptoms of it. That is one of the reasons a total lockdown will be successful in halting the speed of spread of the virus.

And if 99% of tests come back negative, it hasn't spread yet in any huge numbers. And that is great news.
