2. Okay, first of all... that's just three... it'd be like taking the cumulative numbers from NY and 2 bordering states... how does America look then? Because we're talking similar population levels, densities and so forth, or are you afraid to look at things per capita, factor in all the differences that come bundled with what you did? What does Canada bordering the US mean? Are you going to lump in Canada and Mexico case/death numbers with us?

Reasonable critical thinking skills wouldn't lead you to believe anything I've done is a defense of Trump, I mean the worst states for COVID-19 deaths are Democrat-led and Trump empowered individual governors and was incredibly responsive to their needs/requests.

Says nothing about the efficacy of masks or if they ought to be used. If the entire media is telling you wearing a mask will save lives and the average person swallows what their told by the media then they'd need to lack empathy to not do something that saves lives. Most people arguing anti-mask on forums like this... wear the masks when they're meant to... I mean heck, I'm not interested in whatever penalty the government of my state may impose and I don't want to be turned away from businesses. The actual argument is for them to stop enforcing it because the science doesn't back it up. My favorite part though is where they list higher levels of risk-taking as being linked to not wearing the mask... yeah... that one didn't require a study.

You cannot infer 2.) from one. Since the risk may generally decrease with distance, but with the exact cutoff point in a given situation depending on factors such temperature, humidity, ventilation, time spent together and amount of movement. And indeed that's what the evidence suggests.

I've been loosely following it on Twitter, I'll scroll down the list of covid updates from around the world nightly and many of them come from India. The students there are currently trying to take advantage of the virus to cancel school exams.

You keep saying this, but the fact is, that the early response in both the US and Europe were basically the same. Both places stayed open when "the science" told them that COVID wasn't a big deal and it was racist to worry about it. Both places started locking down at around the same time, and listened to "the science" when it came in the form of the garbage British Neil Ferguson model. Both places locked down in basically the same way, and didn't mandate masks because "the science" told them it wasn't necessary. Both places had a shortage of PPE and testing equipment and both ramped up quickly. I think the US actually ramped up its testing faster, and that was a key pillar of the response according to "the science." I could go on. In fact, the strain that devastated New York, and which spread from New York out, actually came to us from Europe, by all current scientific evidence.

The truth is, we were in the same boat for most of this. To the point where both places loosened restrictions at roughly the same time, and had very similar numbers, until the George Floyd riots. That is where we diverged. Weeks of uninterrupted and constant rioting/looting which uncapped a wave of violence we are still dealing with. This rioting was supported by the mainstream media and one of our two major political parties. The fact that cases started EXPLODING in the US 1-2 weeks after these riots, in places where COVID was very much under control, went unnoticed and undiscussed by the media, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. It did, and that is functionally the only difference between how the US and Europe handled this. Here in the US, we were in good shape until one of the major parties and our mainstream media decided that it was more important to march in the street shoulder to shoulder every night and, if you feel like it, set a few AutoZones on fire.
