Mass Effect 3 PC Thread: Fixing Bioware's broke-ass console port, now with holstering

Yeah I just did a little internet digging and setting DoF to False turns off all post-processing. The game looks completely different without all the effects turned on.

Yeah, it's a serious pain in the ass. Turning off depth of field and vignetting specifically would be a dream come true.

Agreed. But at the same time, the game looks kinda cool with all post-processing turned off. I prefer the look with everything on, but it does look different in a not terrible way with everything off.

They will never patch in pad support. They have never done it for their games before (the last 4 Bioware games also released on console came to PC without pad support and never got it patched in) and they aren't going to do it now. They just don't give a shit.

Yeah. That's bullshit. I know they haven't before but man it's really hard to buy this one on pc and be excited about playing it.

Any chance you could show us?

Sure!

Don't worry, Xpadder makes it almost as good as native 360 pad support. I've played 20+ hours with Xpadder.

A user on Guru3D told me this interesting tidbit of info.

0x080100C5 flag works just fine in ME3 at least with 285.62 (and 285.79) drivers.

8xMSAA+4x Transparency supersampling:
http://www.abload.de/img/masseffect32012-03-0693kwx.png

I wouldn't be surprised if it did not work in new drivers since at least in my case that flag stopped working in ME1 in 29x.xx drivers. It may be same issue.

So to anyone that wants to use MSAA + normal transparency supersampling (less performance cost than SGSSAA), you may want to try 285.79 drivers.

I like the Xpadder profile, but how do you deal with selecting skills?

Simple... either hit D-pad down and it'll pause combat and let you select stuff, OR...

Hold left trigger and A, B, X, Y control quickslot 1, 2, 3, 4 up in the left corner. For example, on my Vanguard I hit d-pad right and it does Charge, then once I nail an enemy with that, I hold left trigger and hit Y and it'll activate Nova.

Try it out!

So I've been trying to get the nvidiaInspector settings to work, and nothing I do seems to have any effect in-game (still jaggy'd).

I'm using the 295.73 WHQL drivers, with these settings:

I even tried uninstalling, Driver Sweep, and reinstalling before using Inspector, but still nothing. Any ideas?

Way too many people seems to have troubles with such easy thing as Inspector settings.

Here's a guide on how to make it work.

The following is for the 296.10 drivers (the only difference with 295.xx is that you need to set Antialiasing - Behaviour flags to "None").

1. Go to NVIDIA control panel and on the Manage 3D Settings page hit Restore button (it's the only button there). Click Apply, close NV control panel.

2. Launch NVIDIA Inspector Elevated Settings, select Mass Effect 3 profile

2.1. For MSAA make it look like this:

nvi_msaax9jhn.png

Hit Apply settings, close Inspector window.

Result:

For transparency AA you may want to set "Antialiasing - Transparency Supersampling" to "2x/4x/8x supersampling".

2.2. For SGSSAA make it look like this (copy&paste 0x000000C1 bit into the field):

nvi_sgssaaaj3sa.png

Hit Apply settings, close Inspector window.

Result:

2.3. Note that 296.10 drivers have a special AA behaviour flag for ME3. If you leave it as is then you'll get better perfomance and less blur with SGSSAA (although I'm not sure that this is SGSSAA at all):

No need to be passive aggressive man, many people know how to use it. But for many people the aforementioned bits don't work at all. Example, if you game at 1680x1050, none of the bits that have been mentioned sans 0x080100C5 bit are going to work period.

There's a registry fix you need to apply in order for them to work.

Good to know. I am actually running at 1680x1050, so that's probably what the issue is.

And thanks for the steps, dr_rus.

I am thinking about replaying Mass Effect 1 and I cannot, for the life of me, get AA to work. I am playing the Steam version, any tips? Which compatibility bits should I be using?

You should be using 27x.xx or 28x.xx drivers. They've broken default AA bit for ME1 and UT3 in 29x.xx branch.

FOV fix isn't working some reason. Whenever I enable it during the intros, the main menu freezes and doesn't let me click on anything.

I'd rather get the definitive version working. I'm not sure why it's acting up though. It even breaks the title screen. Makes all the text and logos disappear.

Do you have a secondary screen in your system? Widescreen fixer usually tries to determine your desktop's resolution and tends to be wrong if you have extra screens. Alternatively, you can press the little gear icon in the Fixer and manually set your resolution.

Also if ME3 crashes outright, it probably means the usage of a "foreign" exe, widescreen fixer only works with the retail origin Exe as it tries to change variables in specific addresses that are changed in custom .exe.

Oh yea I do have a second monitor. I'll try to manually set it.

I have this from time to time. I have to alt-tab out and close the window from the desktop. It's only happened a small fraction of the times I've launched the game though. The problem I have is sometimes the FOV fix just doesn't work and I have to exit the game and relaunch. I believe I'm pressing the hotkey at the right time but sometimes it just doesn't work. It wouldn't be such a big deal but the EA server connection takes just long enough to be annoying.

There is one thing I wanted to ask. During some cutscenes there are some jerky animations. For instance a character will suddenly shift direction awkwardly. Is this normal?

Yeah the game has some weird bugs like that, in some of my conversations, my shep kind of starts twisting his head/eyes in a really weird way, like his tracking some one elses movement, but it gets to the point where its really funny with his head facing the right but his eyes trying to remain in the front.

Just checking. There were some weird animations from time to time in ME 1 and 2 but I think it happens more often in this game. The sudden shifts in position are the worst.

How?

Is it the same way you do it with ME2?

I actually have no idea how to do it in Mass Effect 2. If you could tell me, that would be awesome.

But this is how you do it in ME3:

1 - Download this right here. It will allow you to edit your coalesced.bin (found in your Origin Games/Mass Effect 3/BIOGame/CookedPCConsole) file for Mass Effect 3. I cannot, for the life of me, find the website for this thing, where you can get updates, but this works and it's safe.

2 - Go to bioinput.ini -> sfxgame -> sfxgamemodeflycam -> bindings = (multiple) and in an empty space at the bottom add ( Name="F1", Command="ToggleFlyCam" ). Replace F1 with whatever you want. You can also add a toggle HUD command by replacing "ToggleFlyCam' with "ToggleHUD".

3 - Also in bioinput.ini -> sfxgame go to -> sfxgamemodedefault -> bindings = (multiple) and add the same command at the bottom. ( Name="F1", Command="ToggleFlyCam" )

4 - Hit save and you are done. Oh and you should back up that file before you do anything, just to be safe.

Enjoy!

Also, can you tell me how to disconnect the camera in ME2? I have never gotten anything to work.

I actually figured out how from a thread on the BSN but I cant find it right now.

It's similar to the process detailed in the comments on this page

EDIT: Is there a timestop command?

Also thanks

I think that the commands in the thread you linked me to will work for timestop. Haven't tried though.

And thanks a bunch for those links. I have been trying to find out how to enable flying camera and timestop for a long time, and couldn't find anything for the life of me. Now if only tiledshot worked. That damn vignette ruins it. :(

Guy made a really cool ENB graphics mod. You can even add film grain! http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/323/index/9346212

I don't like the Gameplay Optimized Verison. Seems too dark. Even when raising the brightness in game. Enemies and details seem harder to see. The Cinema Mod is fine though and works with the Nvidia Inspector settings from this thread.

Here's a video with some footage of the mod running, This mod works with Mass Effect 1/2/3.

I can't really tell much difference between the gamplay optimized one and the default.

I could tell something about it was less visual. In the gamplay optimized one, go the brightness settings. You actually can't match up the black and white logos. Where as the normal one you can. He lowered the contrast in the gamplay optimized one for some reason.
