Mass Effect: Andromeda |OT| Ryders on the Storm

I'm really not a fan of the Galaxy Map. The system in Mass Effect 2 was way better. This fading in and out and scanning weirdness got old pretty fast. Already tired of it. :/

Currently the only thing that is kinda bothering me. I'm having a great time otherwise.

Game tries to load a cutscene after meeting
Jaal
and it just endlessly loops. Tried reloading several times and nothing. Looks like I'm stuck.

I am really enjoying the game, its exactly what I was expecting...Mass Effect.

I just got to the planet
With the Angara and its awesome. I was on a media blackout so it was cool seeing them all

I still want to break my controller every time I scan a planet. It probably takes 15 minutes of real life to scan 5 planets in a solar system when it could take 2 minutes and we only get like 15 iron.

Enjoying the game a good amount so far but I'm really disappointed with the exploration aspect, at least
on Eos.
It feels like I'm playing a game from last gen at times when you're out in the open world. I don't know how to explain it, it just feels dated. Also, the Nomad is just not fun to drive whatsoever. There are times when I'm trying to go up a hill that isn't even that steep with off-road mode, and it just keeps sliding back down even when I use boost.

I do love the combat though and I think that's keeping me interested. I'm going full on biotic and I'm having fun mixing up skills and trying new ones. Going to try out the MP later.

Maybe I'm not too far into it (I got as far as the night-time jungle planet and the ice planet), but so far it feels like the jank was over-sold. - outside of menu design, that is - the UI could definitely be better. And the graphical oddities I've seen are more likely due to my pc being more minimum-spec than due to bugs.
The exploration gameplay is very DA:I, and I can understand that turning away people who want focus.
Then again, I play mmos and ate up DA:I no problem, so maybe i'm just weirdly accepting.

EDIT: I guess Bisnic above has similar sentiment.
EDIT2: The galaxy map is nice-looking but so slow.

I wish they didn't bother with the Nomad not being able to get up hills and other inclines. It just makes it annoying and it would be much more fun I think if you can just make it up things.

Man I really like this game besides it's flaws. Not sure what the hell they were thinking with those poot mans sudoku puzzles though.

I was worried about the squadmates but they are.. fine? Not sure why people say there's no standout characters. Sure there's no garrus but they had 3 games to devolop that character to be the ultimate bro.

He texted me with a photo of the credits and I know he only started yesterday. He wouldnt lie about something like that. He is a big ME fan.

I can make an Elder Scrolls game even shorter than that if I wanted. Most reports have people getting up to over 60 hours out of this game and at least around 40.

Man, the
Kett
sure are crappy enemies theres nothing interesting about them. The
Archon
is the most generic villain ever too.

Took me a couple tries but I stormed
a kett base on Eos
which was pretty great. lot of little optional objectives, and felt a little more like a ME2 style mission while still being out in the open world, with my only gripe being that the objectives
for overriding security measures
seemed, if not bugged, kinda wonky.
I had to hit three overrides, and the locations stayed on my map after I hit them, then I had to go and hit the alarm deactivation switch, but that *wasn't* on the map and I just had to find one. There were a few of them so it wasn't too bad, but jesus they do not stop coming until you find it and the alarm noise got really grating. Oh, and there was only like one checkpoint part of the way through the base, so I had to make up a fair amount of ground when I died, which happened either two or three times.

Can anyone tell me what the HDR10 Peak Value actually does? On my KS8000 the boxes are both white at 20% when in HDR, but I have it set to 100%. Or should I lower it to just when both boxes are white? 20% seems pretty low.

I thought it was for setting the max nit value, but my set can do 1000 nits which supposedly makes you squint but so far hasn't happened even when looking into the sun.

Still looking for this experience:

So they are continuing tradition that is Mass Effect main enemies / villain? Good to hear.

Saren was cool. Specially his backstory. But, these
Kett
are the crappiest enemies ever. I figured Bioware would have actually y'know made an interesting race for once.

Kett are basically cloning themselves onto others. Only the Archon or w/e is intelligent and that is stupid

I don't suppose anyone happens to have a 1 month EA Access (UK/EU) trial code do they spare? My buddy is really awkward and won't get one and I'm trying to tempt him into picking up Andromeda. He was all set to buy it until the reviews.

You can switch to all wheel drive mode and boost to make it up inclines from the beginning.. I assume upgrades down the line will improve hill climbing in the nomad.

That mission could have been great if it weren't for the checkpoint issue as well as opponents spawning out of thin air.

I may be the minority but I absolutely love the new galaxy map and how you travel to different systems & planets.

Concerning the tempest, I had a bit of disappointment that it wasn't named the Normandy. But the ship layout is really cool.

Yeah. The spawns were annoying, but more out of a sense that the designers should have just been more intelligent about it, like have them come out of somewhere rather than just spawning so it at least *feels* organic. I don't have a problem with waves if you dress it up a little.

The checkpoint is what got me. I got to the end and died and then had to step away from the game for about a half hour because I didn't want to repeat all that. It's frustrating for me because it feels like tweaking checkpoints is the sort of thing that is such a huge QoL change.

I realized last night that I am actually enjoying this game more than I did Horizon. It is not as pretty or polished, but the whole space opera, planet exploring and building a squad thing firmly has it's hooks in me just like the old games did and that makes for an incredibly addictive game that I will no doubt return to play multiple times. It just has that feeling, if you get what I mean.

Absolutely, the
Regent I think was the boss's name
at the end just jumped on me and meleed me for an instakill even. I didn't step away but set the difficulty to narrative until I was at the same point I died. If they'd just given us the option to safe more frequently much of that could be alleviated and I wouldn't need to fear losing progress all the time.
Now I just build my Ryder super defensively and just don't die.

Know exactly what you mean. Hell, I want to go back to ME 1-3 and play as a biotic as I always played as soldier before.

Completely agree. After a while I just gave up and went somewhere else. Kind of hurts the exploration when you can't even get to certain areas in the Nomad because you just can't get up hills/inclines.

The normandy was an active ship when the Tempest was conceived.

The thing I thought was weird about this was that the model you can find in Alec's room is of the Normandy SR-2. Just based on a basic knowledge of the timeline (it takes place before ME3) the SR-2 would still be flying Cerberus colors. I feel like it would have made more sense to have a model of the SR-1, and would have been a neat little nod, since everything else in this is supposed to be a nod to ME1.

Isn't that what the 6-wheel drive mode is for?

Fuck I'm just sitting here at work twiddling my thumbs and thinking about MP builds and getting to the next planet and shit.
Yeah this is torture.

A sign that a game has left more than just a good impression on me: can't stop thinking about MP builds.

all I have done is come home from work and play Mass Effect and before I know it, I need to sleep to even get 5 hours of sleep before I have to get up for work again.

Some of it is a chore, but it is Mass Effect to me. The game has me hooked sort of like ME1 and ME2 did.

Same.

The Mass Effect campaign is the bread and butter for me, but you guys are really making me want to hop into a few matches of multiplayer as well. It's always nice to get a full package.

My third attempt at Sara Ryder + a bonus pic of Papa Ryder.

She still looks a little off at certain angles when she's talking. I'm not sure if it's the just the game's jankiness or if it's because I messed something up in the CC. Anyways. I'll give the CC one last try to see if I can come up with something better. But if I'm not able to, then I'lll just stick with this one.

This looks amazing, how can I recreate this for my third playthrough? :O

I bet you didn't even read the novel. Filthy casual!

Well that is true. Never opened any Mass Effect novel to any page, but then I think there is fundamental flaw in your games story if player is required to read 6 different novels that fill out gaps or actually, you know, develop characters in the game.

So are points invested in passive abilities active 100% of the time, regardless of what Profile you pick?

So for example if I current have only points in the Tech trees, but put a couple points into the Soldier tree Combat Fitness, or Shotguns, that will be active regardless of what build or profile I am using?

Now I just build my Ryder super defensively and just don't die.

I built mine originally for biotics and going for a vanguard style, and since then I've switched up to more of a soldier style. Went into that situation with a sniper, a shotgun, and the assault rifle from the deluxe edition (3 round burst? 3 round burst.) but the thing that's pretty neat about this system with profiles and whatnot is despite that I still have pull and charge as two of my abilities...I just don't use them quite as often as if I just ran in with a pistol.

hearing "you might have more luck trying another entrance, the front entrance should be pretty well defended" then sniping the living shit out of everyone out front was pretty hilarious though.

Anyone else have this issue......it can't be normal. I'm not drunk in game btw it's persistent and I don't recall it on the first planet
I had it during the first planetary mission, it went away after saving/reloading the game and so far hasn't repeated.

I asked him. He wasnt really enjoying it basically so he was advancing the story to see if it would get better, and then he didnt realise it was the last mission.

Correct; the profiles are just there to provide additional benefits. You could have all your points into tech damage boosts and be on a level 1 adept profile if you wanted.

Played a good bit last night. Didn't make it super far as I spent time reading codex entries, exploring the ship etc., so I'm still on EOS.

I'm enjoying it, but definitely feel some of the complaints from the reviews. Animation hasn't bothered me, but the faces are just bad especially the eyes. My biggest gripe so far is the UI clunkiness. Active objectives switch themselves when you hit as quest thing sometimes, changing them back is clunky, the on screen compass isn't super helpful at times etc. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but it's made getting around EOS a pain.

The game is also very slow plot wise compared to the trilogy and the characters haven't grabbed me as much yet.

I am enjoying it, so don't take that stuff as overly negative or anything. Just some disappointment, to be expected after reviews, given how much I love the first 3 games.

So I spent about 20 min last night trying to jet and boost up onto this big rock on the Eos map because I can see a loot chest on top of it. Had to give up and go to bed lol. Sitting here at work thinking about how I might be able to cheese the Nomad up there instead....

6 wheel drive + boost spam. You'll be surprised at the areas you can fumble up to haha.

Okay, this becomes a completely different and better game once you leave Eos. Actually starts to feel like Mass Effect.

That's good to hear. What I've seen of
Voeld
does look much better so I'm looking forward to that.

Yeah I've been doing that. Still doesn't work well half the time.

I'm only a few hours in, but so far it feels like a Mass Effect game (although I absolutely see the "DA:I in space" comparisons). The combat is tight and really, really enjoyable. I can't wait to start unlocking some of the more advanced powers/abilities.

I love when the squad pulls off a combo. An example is I'll prime one enemy with a pull and Cora will blaze in and finish them with Nova or Liam will lob a grenade, etc.
