So chances are that it's an religious thing, right? It would certainly explain why the culprit choosed that club instead of a general one where there would likely be more people to hold hostage.

Rumors on twitter say it might be a white supremacist. Obviously still rumors.

There is specific chatter on Twitter relating to the suspect but I guess we should wait for something more solid before concluding about the motives.

I feel like you're basing this on absolutely nothing. If what they're saying about a bomb and hostages is true, this sounds exactly like the Bataclan.

Of course, no way to tell yet, so speculation is pretty pointless.

I mean when would be a time to do it? People are losing their lives every day in the US over guns. Quite literally not surprised there is another mass shooting in the US already again...

This is awful, and I hope no one is buying quickly into all the rumors going around, just wait for official sources.

If people are being brought out on stretchers (confirmed in multiple videos), that would indicate that the active situation has ended, wouldn't it?

Edit: Also could we maybe wait until we find out more information before we start having the same gun debate yet again? Maybe at least let the thread get to page 2?

Targeting a gay club is targeting a specific group most likely and frankly most Islamists don't care if your gay in America - they care that society allows it which makes them all guilty.

Has the feeling of local prejudices but yes as above poster says it's probably pointless speculating at this time.

Doesnt sound like your typical mass shooting, if he went to the trouble of making explosives sounds like he might have a point to make (as far as he is concerned)

Holy crap. I've been to this place before. I hope casualties are minimal. Awful timing too since it's gay pride season all over the US. I don't think I'll feel safe going out for a while :(

I really detest this argument, it's nothing but confirmation bias. Go learn the definition of terrorism and why Dylan Roof is a terrorist while Elliot Rodger isn't.

Man, it's so sad how often this shit keeps happening. Having it happen two nights in a row in Orlando is heart breaking since it's the city I grew up in. If there is a hostage situation like it seems, I hope OPD gets everyone out safely. Gosh, this is depressing.

Apparently a sound of an explosion was heard by one of the reporters.

Not sure what caused it as of yet.
Edit: at least it was a controlled explosion.
