The council has a lot to answer for this

With a blaze like that and the fact that it started at the very dead hours of the night/very early hours of the morning, I'm fearing for the worst.

Worrying reports that very few people seem to have been seen being treated after escaping, the inference that not many have managed to escape. Saying the fire was actually in the fire exit stairwells.

Really not good at all. God help them all.

Kensington & Chelsea has got to be the richest borough in the whole country as well. The fact that a decaying high rise was left in this sort of state with people crammed inside is a disgrace.

I'm not talking about that fire, sorry didn't mean to come off like a giant douche. I'm just saying it's good to have one at home.

It's the best early warning system you can have against fires in your home.

Again, was just a PSA for Gaffers. Sorry.

Horrifying.
My state started requiring sprinkler systems in all new construction which I originally thought was overkill, but then I watched a house in my neighborhood go up like a Roman candle within minutes of the fire starting.

I used to live in a building like this (although a lot smaller, only 8 stories).

When the fire alarm went off, everyone just used to ignore it. Horrible thought.

Jeez, there is, what sounds like an Australian guy called Jody, live on BBC5 that was there at the beginning who doesn't think anyone above about the 4th floor got out. He ran around with a fire axe trying to help but couldn't find a fire exit.

A lot of older high rise blocks have 1 set of stairs, a couple of lifts and no external fire escape. If the stairs are compromised you're utterly fucked.

Watching BBC America live and man it looks bad, real bad. It looks like they will just have to wait until it burns out and it might collapse before that.

I imagine the only way to put out a fire like that is with helicopters or planes dropping water on it.

I feel bad for London. So much tragedy this year.

Fucking hell.......makes me wonder if it was started on purpose. I heard there are many Muslim families living in the building.

For what it's worth, a survivor went on camera to say that's neighbor's appliance exploded in a nearby apartment, causing the blaze. That is no substitute for an investigation of course.

Person on Twitter saying the fire started at 11.30pm wtf. Kids were screaming save us from the top floor and people were busy recording on their smartphones. 😢

We have no idea what caused this and it is too early to be saying something like that. Building could have been well maintained and in code. It could be something that multiple inspectors didn't catch. It could be intentional. We have no idea what caused this yet and it is way to early to make this claim.
