Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashes after takeoff to London Gatwick

The presence and sound of the RAT turbine suggests double engine failure and/or significantly reduced power in both engines.

Is this the flight with one sole survivor? I don't even know how one deals with being the only one alive after a horrific accident. Insane tragedy.

Posting this for new page. Excellent video

So possibly a human error. But it seems so inconceivable that such a modern aircraft will allow for such a basic mistake AND will go down because of it.
And the pilot also made a mayday call which probably points to something else?
We will get to know soon enough I suppose. I believe the black box has been found.

Looking increasingly likely anyone saying "pilot error" or similar is jumping the gun here.

i am sorry but planes should have automatic systems that either fix these pilot errors or let the pilots know that they have made these errors. this is the second or third time ive heard stuff like this happening.

they are relying too much on pilots getting everything right. maybe have a screen up or a voice confirmation after pilots have taken an action. so they dont have to triage the issue with seconds left to live.

this is why i hate flying. statistically this. statistically that. i couldnt give a fuck. i dont want to put my life in the hands of retards.

Yeah the more I read about it the harder it is to believe such is the case. The people running this through simulations are saying even if you bypassed the protection system that dont allow you to retract the flaps accidently, you would lose lift but it would not cause the plane to fall out of the sky like it did

I'm still leaning towards dual engine failure and the terrible engineering standards set by Boeing

In flight entertainment not working is no reason for a flight to be cancelled.

Ever been on a flight with no AC? They usually start one engine on stand to get air into the cabin.

EDIT: it will be interesting to see the data from the flight recorders.

Follow up video now he thinks it's a double engine failure. A support propeller deployed which provides emergency hydrolic pressure. Also some are saying that the landing gear is angled like it was being retracted then may have lost power which supports the hypothesis.

Can't take this guy seriously after he was so willing to jump the gun and blame the pilots in his initial video due to the usual youtuber culture of rushing to be first to get content out on an event/situation.

I can only think of fuel contamination would cuase this

That or poor/inadequate maintenance.

There's also this:

So hopefully the investigation ends up being as thorough and accurate as it needs to be.

Oh NOW he thinks it's double engine failure and not pilot error?
What a clown, clearly got called out on his first take so he had to pivot.
I mean, we're all speculating from grainy footage and he claims as much very explicitly in his original video multiple times. Then he adjusts his views based on new information. No need to call somebody who admits they were wrong a clown but ok

But I do admit it is a bit wreckless to speculate that it was pilot error because people on the Internet will jump on whatever hateful shit they can find in order to harass the pilots family on Twitter and accuse them of murder or other toxic shit

The 787 pilot I follow on Reddit called it from the beginning too, but got downvoted so I didn't see it :messenger_expressionless:

That article about the switches is pretty poorly written. I'm still leaning towards third-world maintenance but hopefully they release some preliminary findings soon. It seems like cracking the mystery of 'did someone fuck with the fuel switches before or after losing thrust' shouldn't be too hard with an intact black box.

Poorly written? What?

So the investigation says both fuel cutoff switches were triggered in the cockpit, one after the other, immediately after takeoff.

One pilot asks "why did you cut off?" The other pilot says he did not do that.

The switches were moved back to the run position, but it's too late for the engines to regain power, and the aircraft crashes.

Absolutely bizarre. Shades of Germanwings Flight 9525 perhaps, unless it turns out that the switches can move from run to cutoff and back again without being touched.

According to Mentor Pilots video yesterday its out of the question that the switches can move by themselves.

I think he said they are in a detent, so you need to pull them out in order to move them.

I thought it was needlessly verbose for how little new information was there. In hindsight, I was probably wrong.

There's a guy I play Destiny 2 with who does the same shit... ask him a question about something retarded he did... he completely denies... but I'm recording my full game sessions and sure enough on review I find that he's full of shit. I would not take this person as my copilot in real life. Of course, since seemingly nobody admitted to actually doing it here, they'll have to try to figure out who the psycho is. As a psycho could have done it and then been all "why'd you do that bro?"

What the fuck man. How does something like this even happen.
Well, if your pilot really wants to kill himself along with everyone else... it's gonna be really hard to stop him. Ironically by trying to make it harder post Germanwings it looks like this dude decided to workshop how to do it without being able to lock everyone else out, and came up with a way that kills a bunch of people on the ground too.

And that's one of the many curses of Reddit. Downvoted for being right. Very rarely will there be an apology. Just a buried comment with an extra "are you sure you want to view this wrongthink?" clicking step.
