I personally think it gets a lot more flak that it deserves. The movie did spend too much time in Zion which no one cared about much, but the overall plot of the movie was solid I thought. The final battle almost makes up for the mediocre middle, and I liked the ending.

I do think Reloaded and Revolutions could be cut into one fantastic 3 hour movie, shame they didn't go that way.

The Matrix is right up there with Star Wars in that the creators are like "oh yeah, we TOTALLY planned all this shit from the beginning... for reals and no foolies".

Such crap.

Good CG and fight scenes all around, but the movie was pretty bad and the overall plot was piss poor. Leaving it with the ending from the first movie would have been a better idea.

Spending less and less time in the Matrix made for terrible sequels. Zion didn't deserve to be saved.

I loved the critics commentary track on the DVD.. Paraphrasing but one guy pipes up asking the others "What other movies do you remember that leave its protagonist for half an hour like this?"

So? Ghostbusters, The Last Starfighter, Star Trek III, Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom, Terminator, Beverly Hills Cop all turn 30 next year and those are unarguably better movies.

Second best Matrix movie.

When they said "Can you even say they directed these movies? It's all computer stuff" I was like :O

Imagine someone saying Cameron didn't direct Avatar because it's mostly CG.

It doesn't get better, only worse with multiple viewings. The Smith fight, blind Neo lol, Junior Seau and the mechs vs the squiddys. Somewhere out there is a script that they Wachowskis wrote that was actually a good follow up to the original. I'd like to read that and see what could have been.

Revolutions gets too much shit, Reloaded gets too little. It's still remarkable to think how they were able to tank such a huge franchise so quickly. Impressive, even.

I liked the movie, Trinitys final words kept going on and on and it was super annoying. "I love you and I'm sorry I can't go with you, but you are The One and you can do it." bam! Done.

The trilogy's editor, Zach Staenberg, wanted to make a 4 hour DVD, whether he eventually did it as a personal project or not is unknown, but the films have never been show together (on TV) etc..

Once he finishes editing "Revolutions," Staenberg has another "Matrix" project on his wish list. He'd like to take the two sequels and turn them into a four-hour feature-length DVD.

"Truthfully, 'Reloaded' and 'Revolutions' are one movie if you take off the tail credits of one film and the opening credits of the other and splice them together," he said.

"Even releasing them as two sequels, I always felt we were working on a four-hour movie, and I'm going to try to make that happen down the line."

Very disappointing movie. After Reloaded I was really hoping this would tie everything together real nice like but it was an even bigger mess.

Only things I really liked was the giant mech fight, slo-mo shot of Smith getting punched in the face and the Bruce Spence randomly being in the movie.

You mean this: http://www.imsdb.com/scripts/Matrix-Reloaded,-The.html

It's fake and crap.

AGENT JONES

"The plan is not working."

AGENT SMITH

"No shit."

NEO

"All numbers between zero and one. That could be an infinite number of
numbers."

RAZOR

"Not could be, it is."

NEO is astounded.

NEO

"Holy shit. How many calculations per second?"

RAZOR

"How many CPS? Well, that’s kind of hard to estimate. Put it this way:
picture all the particles in the known universe. Not just atoms, but
sub-atomic particles that compose atoms."

NEO

"OK. At last count that was what, a gazillion, right? Two gazillion?"

RAZOR barely smiles at the joke.

RAZOR

"Well, it’s up there. In any case, the number of calculations per
second the Matrix can perform is greater than the estimated number of
particles in the known universe."

NEO

"Woah."

pls

Loved the imagery more than the previous two movies. Could have been something entirely different but the second film strayed from that and this was a nice wrap-up

Did 2 & 3 also lift so many concepts and scenes from GitS? I dunno I never bothered with this past the first movie.

Both the sequels get more flak than they deserve.

But the Wachowskis needed a tighter leash regarding some aspects. It felt disjointed and awkward at times.

I did not like Revolutions as a resolution upon first viewing, then upon rewatches I realized the ideas beneath the surface and really came to appreciate it, despite the flaws.
I hated that Morpheus was relegated to co-pilot instead of going out fighting.
Still more epic than most sci-fi movies today.

The first movie didn't really lift any concepts from GitS, GitS: the movie anyway, as drafts of the Matrix that predate the GitS movie feature the same concepts the final movie does.

edit: As far as I can tell GitS the manga wasn't published in English until late 1995, so it doesn't look like they lifted concepts from the manga either, unless they know how to read Japanese, which I don't think they do.

As for scenes, the lobby shootout has been indeed inspired by GitS and then there's the couple of seconds with the exploding watermelons, that's about it.

The directors used to describe the Matrix as the... "Matrix" cyberspace Gibson created, so that's a more likely source of inspiration.

The sequels don't have any scenes that were inspired or pay homage to GitS that I can think of, but they named the track that plays during the highway chase "Mona Lisa Overdrive" which is the name of a Gibson novel.

I still remember a friend leaving the cinema to take a leak during Trinity's death scene.
When he came back like 10minutes later with new popcorn he said:
"She is still dying??! Damn.."

People dont shit on the sequels enough compared to the prequels of Star Wars. I actually enjoyed the prequels.

Especially with how the 1st Matrix ended, it was fucking perfect.

The Zion battle is so good. Even by todays standards.

Agreed. The movie takes a turning point from the moment they try to sneak past that group of sentinels and they scrape the bottom of the tunnel. From then on I thought the movie was great. Really fun to watch overall.
