Balls going is a great thing for the Labour party. It decapitates that faction and allows them to make a real break

Mass meltdowns coupled with fear mongering and hysteria on GAF, as predicted. Just shows how out of touch many can be with the tide of public opinion.

My in-laws all voted Tory, so great result so far. Now to hope they get that majority to keep them away from the DUP.

37% of the popular vote is hardly representative of the public's opinion. More people wanted the Tories out than in.

All of this to me feels like a massive reboot (and kick up the arse) for all the Political Parties with some of the 'old faces' being voted out of the Commons. SNP's rise should be a huge wake up call too, there's a strong voice up North that shouldn't be ignored (any longer). It sort of makes me wish that the North of England would follow too, but then I'm not sure how we'd do that.

how is this a reboot for the tories? they've just learned that they can be absolute trash for five years but as long as they lie convincingly they'll get back into power.

Sigh, so a Tory majority is looking all but assured?

People really don't understand just how badly their about to be bent over and fucked over the next five years, it's going to take a decade just to recover again when they inevitably vote Labour back in 2020.

Idiots.

Maybe you don't understand?

so what we have just witnessed is anyone who hated the tories has been well and truly shat on...

I for one am pleased as we get the EU Referendum, I don't agree with the argument that we should never have one as they make a net contribution, people should always have the chance to decide what happens...if it means local councils go on a splurge and actually build the infrastructure to cope, then that is a good thing...

Cameron will be running around downing street in his pants right now about Ed Balls, as he hated him with a passion....this is good for Labour as the cabinet that the tories blamed for the economy will now be gone, and it is a 'real' fresh start....we know that we are about to subjected to 5 years of cuts on the poor and most venerable, but the tories went into this election playing those people against the people who pay the taxes to pay for those benefits...

maybe as a society we need to look at why we consider personal wealth above all else!

You're a big guy.
There already is. Just draw a picture or write a rude word on your ballot paper.

I know about spoiling the ballot. Most people who are the kinds of lazy apathetic voters do not. Plus making it explicit would be useful.

YES GOOD RIDDANCE BALLS

This was their first Election with real media coverage, from what I can remember. It totally raised me awareness in their party and beliefs. Some of them are a little outlandish, but the core of what they proposed seemed promising (maybe a little too promising), but I'm one of those fools who believe in hopes and dreams!

I'd also say that I think there's a general higher recognition of climate and environmental issues and concern than there was five years ago.

I'm not British, but as a left-leaning person who had to endure eight years of Bush, I can sympathize with the sense of dread some of you are feeling right now.

Edit: glad we can all join together and laugh at that insufferable cunt End Balls though.
Don't forget, roughly half of Americans vote Republican, most of whom think Obama is a Muslim.

It's a bad dream, isn't it?

Or massive election fraud?

Can't get my head around it

Shy Tories + better the Devil you know.

Labour had been a piss-poor opposition and almost invisible for 5 years, so they hadn't changed or regained any trust in the eyes of the public.

Suddenly making a load of promises wasn't seen as believable and played into the narrative of Labour being reckless.

Ed thought he could just keep his head down for 5 years and let the coalition's unpopularity hand him the keys, he forgot that that you have to earn them back again.

What in the fuck did you do, UK?
We had an election. It's a process whereby we choose which set of bumbling fuckwits get to fuck us over for a while. Then when we get bored, we choose the other set of fuckwits and then they fuck us over for a while.

It's a hoot, I'll tell ya.

So now we've confirmed that England is a right wing hell hole when do we get to leave?
Show yourself the door whenever you like.

At the end of the day, left wing or right wing, I'm just grateful we live in a country where both parties and both party leaders want, without doubt, the very best for the country. They've always got different ideas of how to achieve it, but it could be so, so much worse.

Yeah this is true, where I live in the North-East is still very 'untouched' with some amazing National Parks and scenery. I'd really like to see it stay that way. I know under the past Labour Mayor and MP they've botched several Housing Planning applications/protest, which have allowed for houses to be built on 'protected land/green belt' areas due to loopholes. I'd be gutted if where I lived started to lose some of it's greener areas.

Going to be so awesome when we vote to leave the EU.

That would be the time I do look to leave, not even most of the Tories want that. An isolated England (because I think that would be enough for Scotland to vote Yes on independence at that point too) really doesn't look like a good solution for anyone.

Baffling result, maybe it's the media I consume but I thought the general public were sick of austerity, sick of right wing ideological cuts, then why this swing to the far right? UKIP & Con gains. The electorate has clearly punished LibDem but rewarded Conservatives?

Couldn't find the one without the Scottish Sun, but rightly or wrongly, they'll claim it was all their doing.

How dare you suggest that the UK is a successful democratic nation with a mostly happy populace free from tyranny and persecution. Can't you see that the evil evil tories have just been elected and now that they have that power they will destroy everything that is good and pure. This is the worst news ever, I only hope I can get out before they create deathcamps for the poor. /gaf.

Yeah, I like the EU and the balance they provide to general good human rights and practices. If we leave it... then I'd worry. I can't imagine living in 'England' and not Britain/United Kingdom. I know that might sound daft, but I really feel more British than English (if that makes sense). I think that's probably due to my location, since Scotland is just a few hours away (and I have family there).

nah, let's get to fracking that fucker post-haste

haha, ya bastard!

Fuck fuck fuck.

Claiming anyone is 'out of touch' with the nation's needs is foolish, whatever side you are on. All I know is I really dislike what the Tories ultimately stand for, and that I would far rather we protected the social safety net we have slowly built over the past century, not sunder it.

Still, gonna be fun seeing them squirm through the inevitable EU fracas.
