Those living in social housing who had more bedrooms than tenants now have to pay an additional rate, the official term being "spare room subsidy". Basically the school of thought that the poor should get by on as little as possible.

Yes, "Daddy owns half of Berkshire" type schools

Don't forget that this tax was levied on people that were given the housing through mostly no choice of there own, and that there aren't enough one bedroom houses to support people being in the right sized house in the first place.

The Tories want more right to buy as well which will cripple the level of social housing available. Amazing.

This was their first Election with real media coverage, from what I can remember. It totally raised me awareness in their party and beliefs. Some of them are a little outlandish, but the core of what they proposed seemed promising (maybe a little too promising), but I'm one of those fools who believe in hopes and dreams!

Also, once again I'm happy I kept an eye on this thread over the last few weeks as there are a lot of good people in here who took their time to explain things and offer websites to check to make my OWN opinion. I'll probably check into UK-GAF more often now.
David Mitchell had a good rant on the Greens on Channel 4 last night.

I agree with a lot of their ideologies, but they really could do with a bit more focus to help them become a real player. I hope that this election and the extra attention the lack of seats the Greens and UKIP get for the number of votes they've received will keep them in national consciousness and encourage them to become a stronger and better party for 2020.

Incidentally (and anecdotally) I knew a woman who lost her 19 year old son to cancer and had the bedroom tax smacked on her days after the death... And she still has to live with that to this day. It's a disgusting "punishment" policy that was quickly implemented to appease the craziest of the conservative electorate without any thought given to individual circumstances. It' one of the worst policies created by any government in recent memory IMO.

Has there ever been a PM that hasn't gone to Oxbridge? Serious question.

To be fair, being from Oxbridge is not the problem. My wife is an Oxbridge graduate who got to where she is with intelligence and scholarships.

Milibands went to my local high school (haverstock school) and got to Oxford on some access scheme.

Over 50% of people at Oxford are not from private schools. However private schools make up 7% of the UK schooling system, so are vastly over represented at Oxbridge.

Oxford/Cambridge provide one of the best educations in the world. That is a good thing. Don't tar everyone with the same brush (not that you are specifically! It's just a common thing I see)

THE BIRDS ARE SINGING, ED BALLS HAS LOST!!!! YES!

God, Caroline Lucas is so much better than Bennett. They would have won so much more votes with her IMO.

In my local safest of safe seats, the Tories got even more of the vote. The Lib Dems were absolutely decimated and beaten by Labour into 3rd place, surprising nobody

Justify them? They're about to double them. But it's ok because multi-millionaire Dave Cameron had a disabled son who died.

this, honestly, was one of the most cynical and disgusting things in the campaign; the way he'd bring his son up every time someone mentioned that his party was engaging in massively destructive cuts to the nhs

Sigh, so a Tory majority is looking all but assured?

People really don't understand just how badly their about to be bent over and fucked over the next five years, it's going to take a decade just to recover again when they inevitably vote Labour back in 2020.

Idiots.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much

I think the Greens let Bennett takeover so she would flop and then be purged from the party so Lucas could take over unopposed.

Mass meltdowns coupled with fear mongering and hysteria on GAF, as predicted. Just shows how out of touch many can be with the tide of public opinion.

My in-laws all voted Tory, so great result so far. Now to hope they get that majority to keep them away from the DUP.

Edit: glad we can all join together and laugh at that insufferable cunt End Balls though.

Well for my area, turnout was up almost exactly 10% and Labour actually managed to increase their majority, but UKIP managed to get 15% of the vote, which is a touch depressing.

Can you remember what David Mitchell said? I'll find it on More4 if not.

All of this to me feels like a massive reboot (and kick up the arse) for all the Political Parties with some of the 'old faces' being voted out of the Commons. SNP's rise should be a huge wake up call too, there's a strong voice up North that shouldn't be ignored (any longer). It sort of makes me wish that the North of England would follow too, but then I'm not sure how we'd do that.

You're spot on Hix. I didn't know how left wing UKGAF was until yesterday/last night. Definitely out of touch with the wants and needs of the UK.

Shouldn't really be surprised by these results. Labour has really failed to communicate why people should vote for them. There are probably a number of reasons for that including a hostile press and public debating time more focussing on talk of SNP coalitions or how Milliband is a "nerd." Really juvenile stuff really.

On the contrary I think its the Labour government that really fucked this country over.

Yeah, while Oxbridge do have some upper class slant (like all elite schools) it should not be seen as a blemish on a would be politician record.

Eton college on the other hand...
