Mayflash Wii U Pro Controller Adapter review - *GAMECHANGER* now with button swapping

Pardon my ignorance, but could someone tell me why button swapping is such a big deal?

Because before the buttons were mapped literally. A on an xinput game was mapped to the right button (nintendo A) on the Wii U pad rather than the bottom one as it would be on a 360 pad. So basically, the control schemes were all different/fucked.

With this update, the button positions now stay the same position as on a 360 pad regardless of label.

Face buttons now map 1:1 based on position, and not letter. If mapped on position, you can fall back on muscle memory for the 360 controller. Imagine playing, say, Bayonetta with the face buttons reversed. It'd be weird as hell. In menu-driven games like Valkyria Chronicles, keeping letter mapping is more tolerable.

However, with positional mapping, I find that the Wii U Pro Controller is in that weird position of the Y/B buttons being a tiny little bit too far for games designed around X/Y on the 360 controller. It's definitely still the best controller for some games, though.

Ahhhh, that makes a lot of sense. Never used a pad for PC games, maybe I should invest.

With this, the Wii U pro pad is now the best pad available for PC IMO

In addition, the battery life is fucking insane. I've charged it four times since I bought mine in June last year. Not even exaggerating. About 80 hours playtime per charge.

The XYBA buttons are swapped but it's still mapped to their corresponding letters. It causes some confusion with certain games. For example, Binding of Isaac Rebirth by default you would not be shooting in the correct direction because your PC assumes you're playing with a 360 controller. With this option we can easily switch between the two layouts.

Edit: Damn, beaten.

Do you not mind the rumble being on the left side? It bothers me far more than it should, but I can't stop noticing it. Most of the reason I stick with my DS4 (the touchpad being the other).

I'm not a fan of the crappy rumble myself, but I find it hard to play with anything but a Pro pad now. Digital triggers feel so much better for most games.

Changing the face button mode isn't working for me. Edit: Got it now. When I tried to do the update and held down the button, Windows did a driver update so I thought that was all I needed, but I actually had to download the firmware from here.
Thanks, was wondering what the issue was last night. Tried it out with a couple games and works like a champ now.

The Pro Controller is more comfy than the 360 IMO but if the DS4 ever had a dongle with Xinput like this created I would buy one instantly. It's still my fav controller out today. Mayflash has a DS3 one, maybe they will do a DS4?

Still, battery life is crazy good on the Pro, and thats a big deal for me when pc gaming.

For some strange reason my pro controller/mayflash combo stopped working exclusively with Dark Souls 2. Still works with other games. Maybe a game patch messed it up? Anyone else?

-edit-

Re-installed DS2, now it works. *shrugs*

Wow glad I caught this thread being bumped. Had no clue about the firmware update, that was my biggest issue with this thing. Playing in dinput in Xenoverse is a pain because it labels the buttons as numbers. I have no clue what button is what, lol.

Wow, I'm so happy now.

Finally decided to pick one of these up with the button swapping available now. Will having my Wii U in the same room cause any issues with the adapter?

Can't get the button swap update work. I downloaded the firmware but the option to update is greyed out. It says to enter the update mode press sync then power on. What that means?

Wait, when did button swapping get introduced? I've been using mine for the past 2 months with A being A and so on, might get on changing that

I think around Febuary, with an new driver introduced in March.
The February update introduces a firmware flash to the Adapter: When you run the program, hold down the Sync button and plug it in the USB port. The firmware flashing software will then be able to udpate it so that button swapping can be enabled via button press.

To swap the layout, simply press and hold Start + B for 3 seconds. To revert, press and hold Start + A for 3 seconds. Just think of it this way: Start + the button you are used to pressing as the "OK" button.

For me, the default "swapped positions" works for me since most games map A to Accept anyway. The only ones that don't I think are Skullgirls, and there are instances where button prompt also are very position-depedent.

Honestly though, all PC games should allow for XInput button reassignment. Not all of them do though.

This will make playing The Walking Dead Season 1 much better!

Sorry for bumping this tread after over a month, but I'm not sure where to ask in general, so forgive me if I sound a bit green.

While I was in agreement with everyone else here, praising the Mayflash Adapter for all it's worth, it has finally come to the point where, for me, it works on a good chunk of games in both DInput and XInput mode (TitS, MGR, the YS games). But for several others that I'd also like to play and own (SA2, NiGHTS, Jet Set Radio, DS2:SotFS) have completely stopped working altogether, even though they worked in the past.

There would be an occasion where I would restart my computer, boot up one of those games and it'll work...for a couple of minutes.

In DSII, I can get load my character's save file up before the controls stop working altogether after loading the area I started in.

In SA2, the controls would stop working at random moments, saying that I've plugged in a different controller and asking me to restart the game, even though I can't since the controls are disabled when that message occurs.

At this point, I'm sorry for the long rant, but I'm sure you guys can tell I'm at the end of my rope with this. I've looked online, and NO ONE seems to be having ANY issues whatsoever. So, is it just me?

I've already updated the driver, which didn't do anything and I doubt it's my computer, considering I brought it at the beginning of the year. At this point, I'm not sure what to do anymore, as I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, updating it, and trying all those third-party methods, as well.

ANY help would do at all! Please and thank you!

EDIT (4/30): I finally figured out what was wrong and why those games weren't working with the adapter.

Apparently it was because of the NVIDIA Streamer Service for NVIDIA SHIELD, which disables any input used by anything using XInput for those certain games, from what I can tell so you can use NVIDIA's own controller/portable device, which I DON'T own. (I own a NVIDIA Geforce GTX 970M laptop, for clarification.)

I've disabled it and now all the games that didn't work before, works and I am SO FREAKING HAPPY despite all the frustration I went through trying to figure this out.

Omg. JUST discovered the button swapping update. What a freaking game changer. This is literally the best controller for PC AND my Nvidia Shield's Console Mode now. It took me a while to figure out how to install it, but now that I have feel right at home playing FPS games once again.

The best thing is that it can be swapped on the fly!! This means I don't have to mess with changing around button layouts between games and things like my SNES or DS emulators anymore. Fantastic. Bravo Mayflash.

I don't get why people would want to swap the buttons. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely despise Nintendo's reversed ABXY layout. But I despise my controller prompts not lining up even more. Besides, given the position of the right stick, it makes sense for the buttons to be where they are. A is still the closest button to your thumb when it's resting on the analog stick. It's actually the correct way to go about it, you just have to re-train your muscle memory.

The only problem seems to be typing with the on-screen flower keyboard in Big Picture mode. Is there any way to change the displayed button layout there?

My main use for the button swapping is when I use it as a PS3 controller, because having the buttons swapped there (when there are no letters to match) just seems wrong.

Just bought one of these, but I can't update the firmware. When I plug it in while holding the sync button the adapter doesn't do anything. The option to update the firmware remains grayed out. Should any lights blink or something when it's in update mode?

I've tried all of my USB ports, rebooting my PC, reinstalling the drivers, but nothing works. I can't really think of what else to try.

It works fine otherwise, but I really want to swap those buttons.

Anyone know if this works alongside an official 360 wireless adapter?

I have both set up and I haven't run into any problems (besides games that get upset about XInput controller ordering, but that can happen with other controllers too.) I don't know that I've actively used both at the same time, though.

sorry to bring back old topic but does anyone get turbo working at all.. I can't seem to get mine working.. Pushing the home button and the ZR doesn't go into turbo mode.. ANy suggestions?

Bumping this thread because I'm having the same problem. I just bought a Wii U Pro pad and the Mayflash adapter off Amazon but I can't seem to get turbo to work with any of the face buttons at all. I hold down Home and press A, for example, this should toggle autofire on for A, right? It doesn't. None of the games I've tried have detected any sort of autofire at all.

Also, I saw mention of a driver update in 2015 earlier in the thread, the driver disc that came with my adapter has an installer dated 2013 but I downloaded that 2015 driver from Mayflash's site and they are exactly the same file. So I'm not sure what they supposedly updated or why. My adapter also has a later firmware revision than the one mentioned earlier in the thread as well, they have ver04 available for download and when I tried to update to it I got a message saying my firmware was at ver 06. Again, no idea what they've changed or why as there's no mention of a later firmware revision on their site although the packaging now says the adapter works with Amazon Fire TV as well as PC/PS3.

Anyway, just wondered if anyone else has recently bought one of these and is having trouble with the turbo or has any idea why it's not working.

Edit: Ok so I've figured it out. I had it set to Xinput originally, I switched it to Dinput and the autofire works. So apparently it no longer allows autofire in Xinput mode. Annoying, especially due to the lack of updated information on these changes.
