I agree with him really. Nothing is unhealthy on that menu, a balanced diet includes and encompasses everything. America's problem is portion control.

Not really, since sodium isn't bad for you

You know what I meant, why are you playing with words? Of course your body needs sodium. But there is a very real problem with the food industry where sodium is everywhere, and in too large a quantity.

Mickey D is not as bad as KFC though on that front. Frozen meals are also some of the worst offenders.

In what planet is this considered healthy?

No, it's the high fructose corn syrup.

I haven't drank soda in years so I tend to forget it even exists. I'm guilty of the occasional trip to fast food restaurants as the next guy, but I always get a bottle of water with my burger and fries.

You're right though. That stuff is more or less poison.

Coudreaut noted that the average McDonald’s customer eats at the fast food restaurant roughly three times each month. He questioned what was happening “with the other 87 meals.”

...

“I feel that if we were to close our doors of all of the McDonald’s tomorrow, the obesity problem would not go away,” he said.

Even though what this guy has to say is steeped in PR speech, I have to admit that he speaks some truth here.

Uh...

I haven't seen ads for kids in forever. Gone are the days of Ronald, the Hamburgler, etc...

He's still around.

"Ronald McDonald is an ambassador to McDonald's, and he is an ambassador for good," Skinner said. "Ronald McDonald isn't going anywhere."

edit: Something more recent for your consideration.

McDonald's spent about $115 million advertising Happy Meals during 2010, about 13 percent of the company's $884 million in measured U.S. media spending, according to Kantar Media.

One commercial in the new series features Ferris, a little boy living on a farm with a pet goat that is an indiscriminate eater.. Rather than put the goat out to pasture, the boy and his father teach the wayward animal the importance of a balanced diet, particularly dairy and fruit.

Ferris and the goat are enjoying Happy Meals, with fries and apple slices, at the Golden Arches at the end of the commercial, illustrating the concept of balanced eating.

The message: "Joy is a gift. This is the box that it comes in."

Saying there's nothing unhealthy on the menu is a reach to be generous (I get where he was going with it though) but pretty much everything else he said is spot on. McDonalds isn't out to make the world a worse place, they want to make money. They'll stop supplying shit food as soon as people stop demanding it.

echoshifting really got it for McDonalds huh?

They are actually improving on the nutritional contents of their food even despite the massive demand for "junk food".

To an irrational degree, honestly, because I react negatively to their presence more so than other fast food places which are just as bad if not worse. Repressed memories of a horrific "experience" with someone in a Ronald costume? Only gaf knows for sure.

They do have them on Nick still but they are devoid of food. There is value in Ronald McDonald himself apparently.

McDonald's ads definitely target adults now and those are pretty good IMO.

Maccas is fine if you get one thing from the menu. It's bad when I end up with 4 cheese burgers and a large chocolate milkshake after a night out. Self control is what people need.

If I had $20 to spend on food, I could get an average meal at a restaurant. Or a fucking 5 course family meal from McD's. Most people would choose the latter, especially in this economy. I feel like McDonald's gets singled out because their so big. Just like how Apple was blamed for all the Foxcon stuff, when other companies were doing the same thing.

I don't know why, but I absolutely love the regular old Mcdonalds cheeseburger. I will choose that over anything on the menu. They may not look like anything special but there is flavor country in there and also possibly crack. Every now and then I just get the itch and nothing else will do. :)

You know, he's right. It's absurd to think a corporation should be responsible for a person's lack of self control. A combo once a week from McD's is fine, the problem is you go to McD's and see people order 2 Big Macs, Large Fry, Large Drink and a dollar menu burger on the side and it's like WTF did you think was gonna happen when you're suddenly 300 pounds. Portion control really is America's main problem, not the food itself.

Improving as in offering healthy options alongside their traditional items? I didn't mean to imply they only sold junk food, I know when people started asking for healthier food options they were one of the biggest to ride that wave. I'm not a big McDonald's eater though and I don't want to mischaracterize their menu.

I agree with him. I eat McDonalds like twice a year, usually when coming home late from ball games or something and there's nothing else open on the highway or I'm drunk taking the train.

Two things:
McDonalds is delicious
Other shit is worse for you that you eat more often

Improving as in actually improving all their items.
Just look at the move from shitty cooking oils to good ones a couple of years ago, the abandonment of lard for fries, and much more.

Some fair comments. I don't eat McDonalds all that often but I figure once every couple of weeks isn't going to hurt me (or my daughter) and there are worse fast food options available anyway.

Large milkshakes always creep me out over any of the food offerings, though - whether it's McDonalds or A&W you're looking at around 1200 calories with a shit-ton of sugar.

I like mcdonalds.

Now I want some. I recently tried their smoothies cause I've been craving one and there was no smoothie place around but it didn't seem all that healthy...

Seemed to have extra sugar in it. I would drink another if I didn't have to get out of bed. :p
