Weren't we reading the same things about Dewy before its release?

Nolan. said::lol OMG 360 numbers are just surprising smg not surprising to me and ace combat did more than I thought it would.
Also this is the first time the 360's outsold the ps2 and in doing that it also outsold the ps3 not by much but just funny for some reason.

No, most of the level-headed people in these threads called HSG5 sales good for PS3, and an epic fucking disaster for the series.Magic Mile said:I happen to agree, because I remember Hot Shots Golf 5 at 150k for its first week being a massive success, and even the following weeks when it decreased down to, what was it, 75k and such it was still a great success.
I understand the userbase differences, but people really tend to over react.

As opposed to Mario, which is selling mediocre by Wii Nintendo software standards, and *worst ever* for a new installment in the series.

3d Marios were never comparable with FF or GT in Japan.pswii60 said:They are also bombs. However, SMG is the big Wii game. Surely it would be comparable to a franchise like FF or GT on the PS3.
We'll see how long it keeps pace.ksamedi said:Well be glad its selling on par with Mario Party.
Why? Mario games are generally bigger than Mario Party games. I'd also prefer the superior game that appeals more to me as a gamer to be selling better, not worse than a mini-game rehash. :/ksamedi said:Well be glad its selling on par with Mario Party.

That's easy enough to answer. Retailer pre-orders were 700k. So at least that amount went out. Sales were 250k. So that leaves what - 450k clogging up the shelves in Japan? Good thing the holiday season is coming or I'd say it would take another month just to clear that.plagiarize said:hopefully Super Mario Galaxy will *drive* Wii sales to core gamers, even if it doesn't win over many of the casuals which make up the majority of the system's fanbase in Japan.
Europe (based on strong MP3 sales) already has a nice balance imho, and based on Twilight Princess sales in America, i'm confident that America will show that it does too when the game comes out next week... but hopefully this will show real legs in Japan as it wins over more gamers into buying the system.
i'd be very interested to know what the game shipped, and how much was left on shelves. that'd be a pretty good indication of whether or not Nintendo themselves will be disapointed.
Highly unlikely. But it sold well enough, beating every Zelda game since OoT.farnham said:But Zelda PH sold decently and is probably going to hit one million units within this year..
farnham said:On a global scale it was an effin success.. (Not sure bout Europe but in NA it outsold Gears of War)
Sure in Japan people didnt eat it up.. but it was stupid from Nintendos side (no retail GC version)
The only concern would be that Zelda is dwindling as a series in Japan..
But Zelda PH sold decently and is probably going to hit one million units within this year..
So that cant be the case..

How the hell did Ace Combat 6 succeed where Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, and Eternal Sonata failed?
250k first week for Mario? In Japan 2D Mario > 3D Mario, yes, but wow, that is surprisingly underwhelming.

A little underwhelming I expected 300k. Mario isn't doing incredible numbers anymore. On the Gamecube Sunshine was outsold by Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. I remember reading that Mario Kart 64 was the best selling N64 game. Mario is still a huge franchise with a loyal fanbase, but it isn't a earth shattering event anymore.DeaconKnowledge said:250k first week for Mario? Lost Odyssey failed, what does that even mean, it hasn't even came out yet. Ace combat didn't really succeed over the other two and I'd say it was a little low, the hardware sales is from the price drop and better hardware (HDMI and 65nm cpu).DeaconKnowledge said:There are some things I don't understand:

I think that NSBM is an exeption to the rule, the first new Mario 2D mario since god knows how long, that's what made it succesfull. Perhaps Motion Sickness is also an Issue, the same reason why FPS games don't sell in Japan. We also have no idea about the shipments, retailers wanted 750k, but perhaps Nintendo cut their supplies in half, shortages are already common in the US and Europe.farnham said:because i thought they were competing
wth seriously.. NSMB is going to sell 5 million copies in a few weeks and people still call Mario a fading franchise
