It's on the DS. All S-E has to do is run a few TV ads for it, and it'll be right back up to the Top 10.

"Final Fantasy III, wise from your gwave!"

Or they could just give it the price of a normal DS game.

2.7m for Pokemon PD. 4m by the end of 2006?

Going by these numbers, they need 1,224,978 combined to hit 4 million.

Assuming there's 9 weeks left in the year, that's 136,108 combined per week.

At this point, even 4.5m seems realistic.

Musashi Wins!

FLAWLESS VICTOLY!
There was a short news segment tonight (CBS?) about how the Japanese population is aging way too fast and the toy stores are filled with adults buying toys for themselves. Arcade machines in convalescent homes, etc. They said one of the huge sectors was handheld videogame systems...and then they showed 2 PSP games :lol Still, that must explain these crappy brain games and such.

Or you know, have more units available (although that's not really Square-Enix's fault), seeing as it has a 90% sell through rate or so.

Wow, you're delusional.

I said it'd sell a million by the end of the year right after the game first game out. Last week I reiterated that I'm still pretty sure it'll sell a million by the end of the year, and if it doesn't, that it'll do so within a week or so's timespan.

We'll wait until the timeframe is up to see where the game stands.

It's only 81% now.

By the end of September, Famitsu had it at 772K. By the end of September, Square-Enix had shipped 840K copies to Japan. => 92% sell-through after 6 weeks.

What do you think?

So there are probably some copies laying around at this point. That said, the failure to restock early quite possibly nerfed the game's retail momentum.

I think Shin Bokujou Monogatari is Rune Factory. In which case, 95,000 is really quite nice in terms of its progress.

Also, it's amazing how many people are buying the fourth version of Tales of Phantasia.

Great, thanks a lot for the translation :) Really pleasing to see Tingle still doing so well...surely after such a performance NoA can't ignore it? (Saying that, where's Mother 3, you heathens! ;) )

Those who see Tempest sales being good or something like that, just a remainder, first day sales were Training 75k and Tempest 60k...3 days more the totals are 190k and 90k. And that is I suppose thanks to heavy pricedrops on Tempest. Tempest beated ToP and ToE ports starts yeah, but its not going to beat ToE LTD (240k), actually its going to be hard to reach its first shipment (~185k)....

Not to say beat any other main entry in Tales series...its the black sheep. Its numbers are near the spinoffs and ports...

We'll see if Tales of Destiny Remake for PS2 changes the situation now.....wow, waiting for a PS1 remake on PS2 to change the bad image a new main entry on DS did.

20 PS2 Minna no Tennis 14000 470000 95
Go Minna no Tennis :) Not bad, its going to reach 500k, half what a Golf does, but quite late into PS2 life, I wonder if Golf would have done better. Time to pump Minna no series Sony, basket, footbal, baseball...PS3 and PSP please.

Nice 100k sellers there, gundam, rune factory, monster hunter best edition! does amazing, ToP really amazing, I can't help but laugh at 4th Phantasia vs Ridge Racers 2. Ouch, ouch indeed.

People are saying Tempest's sales are a good thing because of how bad the quality of the game is. I bet you anything Namco has already made back the money they paid a company like Dimps to handle that game.

Yep, a 10hr abortion with very few Tales features could hardly have cost them anything. The sales are good in proportion to the game's quality and budget... and that sucks.

Can we really consider Tales of the Tempest a main Tales entry? I mean how many of the other ones were outsourced for everything except music? I think even the ports are made in house. Namco couldn't even be bothered to make TotT, why should people even buy it?

Yeah but then, every tales does amazing...I mean, Legendia sold 350k, sure Namco had a nice profit on it but it was a weak entry sales-wise, weak entry quality-wise, plus not good image for the series and such. Tempest is even worse sales-wise, image-wise...even if Namco sees a profit on it.

Tempest as the first full fledged main entry on a handheld, and on DS no less...is a failure that damages tales image.

I'm a tales fanboy anyway, my opinion should not reflect reality easily so don't take it very seriously xd

Tales of the Tempest is hardly a "fully-fledged" main entry, it's crap. Outsourced and bastardized. Namco didn't even promote the damn game, it can't really be compared to any other main Tales entry.

Compare how ToDr has been promoted and compare with Tempest. It's not going to damage the series' just like how Legendia didn't necessarily damage Abyss wehich came out 4 months later. People know the real deal.

To Namco, it seems its a main entry imo. To me, it seems like a half-assed effort to try to ride on DS and Tales sucess, labeled as a normal tales..

Taking Namco Tales Studio as in house, then Legendia is totally outsourced (to a Namco internal team that is...) since NTS was only credited as special thanks in Legendia.

Well, sure I wasn't the one laughing at PSP getting ports and spinoffs while DS got the real full fledged new Tales.

Before we knew it was Dimps, everyone was calling it a normal tales with suspicious delays and weak promotion. Also called real 3rd party effort that other developers should take note, 3rd party game with sales potential, rival to FF3/DQMJ...

Sure that upon seeing all this, 90k sound like undeserved sales, but what I try to say is that Namco expected quite more, we also expected quite more (sales and quality wise) and in the end, its a Namco mess with very low sales for what it was meant to be, huge shipment not sold, pricedrops to sell the stock and a unique lost opportunity for Namco to catch some success on DS.

Btw, just read on gamefront that Jump Ultimate Stars (DS) is scheduled for 11/23, a day later than all this stuff too: Tales of Destiny, Jeanne D'Arc, Riviera, Sonic PS3, Boktai DS, Oshare Majo Love and Berry (Sega DS girl title), J-League Winning Eleven, Culdcept Saga and Dead or Alive Extreme 2.

Quite a battle that week...

Well I'd rank an internal team within namco higher than Dimps. I don't get it really. Namco-Bandai has two of the highest third party selling titles, you'd think they'd put a little effort. They already have a million seller on the DS. I really thought they were going to put some effort into it, and I thought the Town Environments were great, but, after hearing about it, and 12 hours for a tales game?
(Of course I don't now how sparated Namco is from Bandai, really. Both parts might have totally different stategies.)

I'm working on a database of famitsu sale data (klick)... is there a chance to get older "top 30" weekly charts from famitsu?!?

I'm searching for data before 2005/02/28 an the weeks 2005/04/25-05/01, 2005/05/02-05/08 , 2005/06/13-06/19, 2005/09/26-10/02 and 2005/11/21-11/27...

[monorojo] Well, so now all you Nintendo fanboys will shut up now about PSP not selling games in Japan? It is has the same number of titles in the top 30 as the GBA, the most popular handled in history, and only half of the PS2 ones, by far the console with the biggest installed base (yeah, more than your precious DS).[/monorojo]

Now talking seriously, I really wonder if the charts will be as DSowned as this one when the next gen comes in...

Whats NSMB at now worldwide. I was kinda hoping it'd do better numbers than this. I know holidays in NA and Europe LOVE anyting Mario, and Japland will also do a bit, but nothing will come close to Europe and NA. I reckon a 3 week total of 200k in Japan. If its lucky, cos there is lots of new consoles and games.

I guess Tales of Phantasia PSP is the closest to an outsourced Tales Studio work as Mineloader Software seems to have done most of the programming/porting. Still doesn't compare to Tempest obviously.

You realize it would only have to sell about 16k average a week to hit one million by the end of the year, right? And that chances are extremely high that its current ~15k a week will go up during the holiday shopping season, not down (especially if Nintendo really are going to dump extra DSes on the market)?
